Superpower

This set wants Azumarill to hit as hard as possible without the need for Belly Drum, while still being Specially Defensive with Assault Vest. The inclusion of Superpower is for attacking Steel-type Pokemon like Magnezone that would attempt to wall Azumarill.

This build has Tera Fire and is used defensively so that Azumarill can stay on the field against Grass-types, as well as take neutral damage to Poison-type moves.

Other Viable Moves

Ice Punch Ice Punch gives Azumarill Ice-type coverage, which is useful for opposing Grass-types
Trailblaze Trailblaze's Grass-type coverage is good against bulky Water Pokemon who would want to switch in on Azumarill

Belly Jet Azumarill Moveset & Best Build

Nature Adamant (+Atk, -Sp. Atk)

Moveset Belly Drum
Aqua Jet
Liquidation
Superpower

It is important that Azumarill's HP always be an even number so that Sitrus Berry always triggers after a Belly Drum. Liquidation is for extra power that Aqua Jet does not always have, and because we may not always be able to set up Belly Drum.

Because Azumarill's Huge Power Ability doubles its Attack Stat, Azumarill always hits really hard, negating the need for coverage moves.

Other Viable Moves

Facade A good option to have on cases that Azumarill is inflicted with a status condition.
Ice Punch Ice Punch gives Azumarill Ice-type coverage, which is useful for opposing Grass-types

Moveset Perish Song

Sing
Protect

Perish Song Azumarill is very difficult to get off the field, often able to tank physical hits and set up Perish Song. This makes Perish Song the most important Move of the set. Aqua Jet is its only offensive move, which is used for when Azumarill has to deal damage. Sing is a low Accuracy move, but can cost opponents the game if it lands. Protect stalls out turns for Perish Song

Sap Sipper is the Ability of choice for Azumarill as it gives it an immunity to Grass even as it Terastallizes. Azumarill makes use of Tera Ground to give itself an immunity to Electric and a resistance to Poison.

Sitrus Berry ensures that Azumarill is healthy for as long as possible.

Other Viable Moves

Chilling Water Chilling Water is a consistent option for reducing an opponent's Physical Attack damage.

How to Use Azumarill Effectively

Hit Hard and Fast with Aqua Jet

Azumarill can hit really hard with its STAB Aqua Jet even without the need for setting up a Belly Drum. Finding ways to further buff Aqua Jet's firepower like Terastalizing or setting up Rain can help it score decisive knock outs.

Tank Hits with Ease

With six resistances and sizeable bulk, Azumarill can tank a number of hits especially if resisted. A good Azumarill switch-in can often let you sneak in a Belly Drum and position for a sweep!

How to Build a Team with Azumarill

Azumarill needs good positioning in a match in order to truly shine, so getting rid of its checks and counters with faster Pokemon will help it perform at its best. A reliable Ground-type teammate who can switch into Electric-type attacks are also great for Azumarill to have, letting it live to fight another day!

Sample Singles Team

Fast Offense Slow Offense Tank
Roaring Moon ImageRoaring Moon Azumarill ImageAzumarill Hippowdon ImageHippowdon

Roaring Moon can serve as an Offensive Lead, clearing out as many opposing Pokemon as possible, leaving Azumarill with little clean up duty. Hippowdon can switch into moves for Azumarill, thanks to its resistances and hefty Special bulk.

Sample Doubles Team

Trapper Tanky Perish Song Pokemon
Gothitelle ImageGothitelle Azumarill ImageAzumarill
Physical Attacker Trapper
Garchomp ImageGarchomp Gothorita ImageGothorita

Sap Sipper Azumarill and Shadow Tag Gothitelle form the team's Perish-Trap. Their main task is to survive for three turns and take out 2 of the opponent's Pokemon with Perish Song.

Azumarill can afford to stay in, tank hits and Terastallize when needed in order to stall turns. Gothorita with Eviolite serves the same purpose as Gothitelle.

Finally, Garchomp is included because of its positive matchup against Gholdengo, a Ghost-type Pokemon you should be prepared to face frequently.

Counters for Azumarill

Tank Azumarill's Offense and KO with Super Effective Damage

Pokemon who can tank Water-type attacks or Fairy-type attacks are good matches against Azumarill. When its main strength is neutralized, Azumarill can struggle to contribute anything more to a match,

Best Pokemon to Use

Pokemon Description
Magnezone ImageMagnezone Ranking: ★★★★★
・Magnezone can tank Azumarill's STAB options and KO it with a powerful Electric-type move
・Has high enough Special Attack that it can threaten Azumarill at any percentage
Clodsire ImageClodsire Ranking: ★★★★
・Is immune to Azumarill's Water-type moves, and resists Fairy
・Can comfortably set up Yawn or Toxic Spikes in front of Azumarill
Wash Rotom ImageWash Rotom Ranking: ★★★★
・Can outspeed Azumarill and trade damage favorably thanks to its decent bulk
・Can potentially set up Nasty Plot and sweep

How to Get Azumarill's Egg Moves

Azumarill learns Aqua Jet and Belly Drum as egg moves, so in order to get Aqua Jet or Belly Drum on Azumarill, first you need a Pokemon that knows the move. You will then need to make sure Azumarill has an empty move slot and give it a Mirror Herb.

Finally, set up a picnic with both Azumarill and the Pokemon that knows the egg move in your party and the move will be transferred to Azumarill (the other Pokemon still retains its moveset). Unlike previous generations, egg moves can now be transferred regardless of egg group, species or gender.
