How to Use Porygon2 Effectively

Maximize the Usage of Porygon2's Abilities

Porygon2 is unique in that it can flexibly use any of its given abilities. Make sure to maximize the usage of Porygon2's abilities by either Tracing important abilities like Intimidate, positioning it against faster Pokemon to utilize Analytic, or surprise enemies with Download boosted attacks.

How to Build a Team with Porygon2

Porygon2 appreciates bulky teammates who can set up hazards and outlast the enemy's team.

Sample Singles Team

Hazards Lead Bulky Attacker Setup Sweeper
Glimmora ImageGlimmora Porygon2 ImagePorygon2 Cresselia ImageCresselia

Glimmora is used to set up Toxic Spikes which will badly poison any grounded Pokemon that switch in on the opponent's side. Porygon2 and Cresselia can then come in and slowly whittle down the enemy while also outlasting them with moves like Recover and Moonlight constantly healing them.

Sample Doubles Team

Special Attacker / Trick Room Setter Physical Attacker / Trick Room Setter
Porygon2 ImagePorygon2 Calyrex (Ice Rider) ImageCalyrex (Ice Rider)
Special Attacker Physical Attacker
Torkoal ImageTorkoal Rillaboom ImageRillaboom

Porygon2 is a Trick Room setter that is difficult to take out. Having it alongside Calyrex (Ice Rider) presents a guessing game to your opponent, wherein they have to correctly predict which Pokemon sets up Trick Room. This lead is susceptible to Taunt, however.

Torkoal is also an excellent Trick Room attacker, who can only benefit with a partner that can set up Trick Room for it. It also matches up favorably against Zacian-Crowned, who may give Calyrex (Ice Rider) trouble.

Rillaboom is added to the team because of its ability to outprioritize and 2HKO Calyrex (Shadow Rider) with Grassy Glide, and threaten both Groudon and Kyogre with a powerful Wood Hammer.

Counters for Porygon2

Use Pokemon That Can Set Up in Front of Porygon2

Setup Pokemon are usually good to bring against a Porygon2, as they are usually able to set up and outpace Porygon2's damage.

Taunt Porygon2

Taunt can shut down Trick Room and Recover, and because Porygon2 is holding Eviolite, it will not have access to Mental Herb.

Players must be careful when using Prankster Taunt, however, as Trick Room teams have many ways of shutting down priority, such as Psychic Terrain, Farigiraf's Armor Tail, or their own Fake Out users.
