Taunt
・ Gunk Shot ・ Knock Off ・ Parting Shot |
Grafaiai's Prankster Ability allows it to function as an offensive lead in Singles, using priority Taunt to shut down opposing leads and prevent them from setting up dual screens or entry hazards.
Gunk Shot is its main STAB move and hits hard with full investment thanks to Grafaiai's respectable Attack stat. Knock Off gives it additional utility against support and defensive Pokemon such as Skeledirge and Gholdengo, removing their items and dealing super effective damage.
Parting Shot is its last move and allows it to pivot out of the battle while also lowering the target's Attack and Special Attack by one stage. It's also boosted by Prankster, which means it will always switch out before other opposing leads.
This build has Poison Tera-typing to further boost the damage of Gunk Shot, while Focus Sash ensures it can use one last Parting Shot even against Pokemon that can OHKO it.
Doodle | Doodle is a niche move that can replace Taunt and allows it to copy beneficial Abilities such as Intimidate. |
---|---|
Toxic | Can replace Taunt and allows Grafaiai to pressure defensive Pokemon such as Hippowdon. |
The following calculations take into account Grafaiai's Offensive EV spread with a Jolly Nature.
Damage Dealt by Grafaiai |
|
---|---|
Item: Choice Band | Gunk Shot 198-234 (95.6 - 113%) 68.8% Chance to OHKO |
Item: Leftovers | Knock Off 94-112 (48.4 - 57.7%) 94.9% Chance to 2HKO |

Ability | Prankster |

Held Item | Black Sludge |
Moveset | ・
Doodle
・ Knock Off ・ Super Fang ・ Parting Shot |
Grafaiai is a great lead support in Doubles thanks to Prankster giving priority to its status moves, as well as its great dual-typing which allows it to check Flutter Mane. Black Sludge is the preferred item for this build to give it recovery and improve its survivability.
Doodle changes Grafaiai and its ally's Ability to the targeted Pokemon. This is a powerful support move that can turn the tables against the opposing team, such copying Intimidate and causing it to activate twice. Keep in mind that once Grafaiai uses Doodle, it loses Prankster so it will have to switch out to get priority on status moves again.
Knock Off allows Grafaiai to threaten opposing support Pokemon and remove beneficial held items such as Leftovers, Booster Energy, and Focus Sash.
Super Fang halves the target's HP and puts them at KO range and is very useful against bulky Pokemon such as Garganacl. Parting Shot is its last move and lowers the target's Attack and Special Attack by one stage before switching out.
Helping Hand | An alternative to Super Fang that boosts the power of its ally's move by 50%. |
---|---|
Encore | Another alternative to Super Fang that locks the target Pokemon into its last used move for 3 turns. |
The following calculations take into account Grafaiai's Defensive EV spread with a Careful Nature.
Damage Received by Grafaiai |
|
---|---|
Item:
Booster Energy
|
Moonblast 45-53 (26.4 - 31.1%) Guaranteed 4HKO |
Item:
Focus Sash
|
Knock Off 57-67 (33.5 - 39.4%) Guaranteed 3HKO |
Item:
Leftovers
|
Make It Rain 102-120 (60 - 70.5%) Guaranteed 2HKO |
In Singles, Grafaiai's access to Prankster-boosted Taunt and Parting Shot make it an effective offensive lead that can check other leads, particularly entry hazard setters like Brambleghast. It's also very difficult to predict as it has many support moves to choose from.
In Doubles, Grafaiai has a niche as lead support with its signature move Doodle and is particularly good at countering Intimidate teams.
Since Doodle changes both Grafaiai and its ally's Ability, Intimidate effectively activates twice once it copies it with the move.
In Singles, Grafaiai is a great choice in almost any team composition that requires Prankster-boosted Taunt and Parting Shot.
In Doubles, Grafaiai is an excellent choice for offensive-oriented teams that can benefit from Parting Shot as well as possible new Abilities granted by Doodle.
Offensive Lead | Special Attacker | Offensive Pivot |
---|---|---|
Grafaiai | Garchomp | Skeledirge |
Grafaiai's main role is to shut down opposing leads with Taunt and use Parting Shot so that Garchomp can safely switch in and set up more than once with Swords Dance, and then sweep with Earthquake and Outrage.
Skeledirge is this team's offensive pivot and is a great check against setup sweepers with Will-O-Wisp and its Unaware Ability ignoring stat boosts.
Lead Support | Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Grafaiai | Roaring Moon |
Redirection Support | Special Attacker |
Toedscruel | Armarouge |
Once Roaring Moon consumes its Booster Energy, Grafaiai should use Doodle to copy the Ability of one opposing Pokemon and give the Paradox Pokemon a more useful Ability for the remainder of the battle.
Grafaiai should then use Parting Shot to switch out and lower the target's offenses and swap places with Toedscruel so to provide Rage Powder Support.
Armarouge is this team's Special Attacker and rounds off Roaring Moon's coverage by providing strong Fire and Psychic STAB.
Even with full HP investment, Grafaiai has very low physical bulk and its weakness to Ground-types means its easy to wear down or outright KO. It struggles particularly against Pokemon that resist or are immune to its dual STAB moves who can take a hit and retaliate with their own moves.
