With the release of the Teal Mask DLC, Ogerpon is now legal in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Ranked Battles. Its Hearthflame Mask form fits in well in a Hyper Offensive Sun Team that can deal massive amounts of damage both in Trick Room and in Tailwind.
Nature | Jolly (+Spe, -Sp. Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 156 HP / 172 Atk / 104 Def / 116 Sp. Def / 178 Spe |
Ability | Mold Breaker |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Hearthflame Mask |
Moveset | ・
Wood Hammer
・ Ivy Cudgel ・ Knock Off ・ Spiky Shield |
State when Attacking | Damage Boost |
---|---|
Holding Mask | 1.2x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move | 1.7x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move + Terastallized (if Tera Type matches Move type) | 2.2x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move + Terastallized (if Tera Type matches Move type) + Embody Aspect Attack Boost | 2.7x |
Holding any of its masks gives Ogerpon a 1.2x boost to its damage when it uses any attacking move. When Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon Terastallizes, it gets its Attack raised by one stage through its Embody Aspect ability. Ogerpon can do up to 2.7x more damage when all the boosts are added up!
Ogerpon can one-shot most Pokemon if it does super-effective or neutral damage, including other Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon. Its Mold Breaker ability allows it to hit Pokemon with Flash Fire, such as Heatran, with a strong Fire-type Ivy Cudgel.
It performs best in Tailwind as a fast attacker. It's worth noting that it always outspeeds Rapid-Strike Urshifu both in and outside of Tailwind, so Ogerpon can easily knock it out with a Wood Hammer.
Spiky Shield is a great alternative to Protect because it can break the Focus Sash of a Pokemon that attacks into it.
Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon (Fire) Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Quiet (+Sp.Atk, -Spe) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Sp.Atk IVs: 0 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 192 HP / 121 Def / 194 Sp.Atk / 100 Sp. Def / 72 Spe |
Ability | Flash Fire |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Life Orb |
Moveset | ・
Expanding Force
・ Heat Wave ・ Aura Sphere ・ Trick Room |
This Armarouge is a strong special attacker best used in Trick Room, which it can set up itself. It's synergizes well with Indeedee, since Armarouge's Expanding Force allows it to hit both of the opponent's Pokemon in Psychic Terrain, and Indeedee can set up Trick Room for Armarouge.
It may not be a good idea to use Armarouge in front of a Pokemon with Wide Guard, since both of Armarouge's STAB moves target both of the opponent's Pokemon.
Aura Sphere is a good coverage move that can knock out Heatran with a Helping Hand boost from Indeedee.
Armarouge Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Timid (+Spe, -Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 252 Sp, Atk / 4 Sp. Def / 252 Spe IVs: 0 Atk |
Final Stat Values | 130 HP / 75 Def / 187 Sp. Atk / 156 Sp. Def / 205 Spe |
Ability | Protosynthesis |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Booster Energy |
Moveset | ・
Dazzling Gleam
・ Moonblast ・ Shadow Ball ・ Protect |
Flutter Mane is a fast and strong special attacker. Since the Flutter Mane in this team has Speed as its highest stat, Booster Energy will boost Flutter Mane's Speed. This allows it to outspeed Chien-Pao and attack it before it can move.
Flutter Mane is not very bulky, however. It can easily get knocked out by Rillaboom's Grassy Glide. Be careful of any priority physical attacks when using Flutter Mane.
Flutter Mane Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Calm (+Sp.Def, -Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 244 HP / 244 Def / 20 Sp.Def |
Final Stat Values | 176 HP / 116 Def / 115 Sp. Atk / 140 Sp. Def / 105 Spe |
Ability | Psychic Surge |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Rocky Helmet |
Moveset | ・
Dazzling Gleam
・ Follow Me ・ Helping Hand ・ Trick Room |
Tera Water Indeedee with Rocky Helmet is an excellent counter against Rapid-Strike Urshifu, dealing damage to it every time it connects Surging Strikes with Indeedee. Rocky Helmet is also valuable for breaking Chien-Pao's Focus Sash.
Follow Me allows Indeedee to direct single-target attacks into it, preventing its teammate from taking damage. This Indeedee also has Trick Room to allow Armarouge and Torkoal, the slow offensive Pokemon on the team, to sweep.
Helping Hand is a handy support move to have when you want your offensive Pokemon to do even more damage. Alternatively, you can also use Dazzling Gleam to help deal more damage to the opponent.
Indeedee-F Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Quiet (+Sp.Atk, -Spe) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Sp.Atk IVs: 0 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 177 HP / 161 Def / 150 Sp. Atk / 90 Sp. Def / 22 Spe |
Ability | Drought |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Choice Specs |
Moveset | ・
Eruption
・ Heat Wave ・ Flamethrower ・ Earth Power |
With the Choice Specs item and the sun boost, Torkoal should be able to deal a lot of damage when using Eruption while at full HP.
It's best to use Torkoal while in Trick Room since it's one of the slowest Pokemon in the game. It should always go first while in Trick Room, even outspeeding Amoongus.
It's still possible to use Torkoal outside of Trick Room, but you may want to lock into Heat Wave or Flamethrower instead of Eruption since it's difficult for Torkoal to keep its HP when moving last.
Earth Power is good against Heatran who is immune to Fire-type attacks as long as its Flash Fire ability is active.
Torkoal Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Bold (+Def, -Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 164 HP / 172 Def / 20 Sp. Atk / 4 Sp. Def / 148 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 175 HP / 123 Def / 148 Sp. Atk / 101 Sp. Def / 150 Spe |
Ability | Prankster |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Covert Cloak |
Moveset | ・
Bleakwind Storm
・ Tailwind ・ Taunt ・ Sunny Day |
Tornadus with the Covert Cloak item allows it to set up Tailwind in the face of a Pokemon with Fake Out. It's also an excellent weather-setter with access to Sunny Day in case you don't want to bring in Torkoal for the sun.
This Tornadus is a bulkier build. While it can take more hits, it's susceptible to a faster Tornadus's Taunt unless you Terastallize.
Tornadus Movesets and Best Builds
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) |
Flutter Mane |
This team has both a fast and a slow mode. Whichever mode you'll want to lean more on will depend on the Pokemon in your opponent's team.
If you notice that your opponent has Pokemon in a similar speed tier to yours, but they have no Tailwind setter, it's better to use this fast mode. Set up a Tailwind with Tornadus and use Ogerpon and Flutter Mane to sweep.
Do note that the Tornadus in this team is a bit slower in exchange for more bulk, so you will likely move second when facing an opposing Tornadus.
Indeedee (Female) |
Armarouge |
Torkoal |
The slow Trick Room mode is the strategy you'll want to go for if your opponent has no good way of denying Trick Room. Torkoal with Choice Specs-boosted Eruptions in sun should be able to deal massive amounts of damage to any Pokemon that isn't immune to it.
Indeedee (Female) |
Armarouge |
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Flutter Mane |
Indeedee and Armarouge is a good duo to lead with if you plan on setting up Trick Room. Indeedee's Psychic Surge prevents priority moves like Fake Out. You can then use Follow Me with Indeedee to let Armarouge set up Trick Room safely.
This lead is weak to Chien-Pao's Lash Out. Be wary of other strong Dark-type Pokemon that can easily knock out Indeedee.
Once the Trick Room turns expire, Ogerpon and Flutter Mane can clean up the rest of your opponent's team.
Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) |
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Indeedee (Female) |
Flutter Mane |
If your opponent has good counters to your Trick Room mode, lead with Tornadus and Ogerpon. Ogerpon and Flutter Mane thrive in Tailwind, and Indeedee is a good Pokemon to pivot in and provide support.
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Flutter Mane |
Torkoal |
Ogerpon and Torkoal can both do devastating damage when Terastallized while the sun is up. You may find yourself Terastallizing these Pokemon often.
Flutter Mane is another Pokemon you can Terastallize offensively, though losing its Ghost typing allows it to be affected by Fake Out.
Armarouge |
Indeedee (Female) |
Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) |
Armarouge's Grass Tera Type allows it to resist Water and Ground moves that would normally deal super-effective damage. It also prevents Amoonguss from putting Armarouge to sleep with Spore.
With a Water Tera Type, Indeedee is the perfect Pokemon to take Rapid-Strike Urshifu's Surging Strike hits. It also allows Indeedee to resist other Water-type moves that may be super-effective against its teammates.
Dark Tera on Tornadus prevents other Prankster Pokemon from hitting it with status moves like Taunt.
Chi-Yu |
Flutter Mane |
The combination of Chi-Yu and Flutter Mane does an immense amount of damage. They're fast Pokemon that can outspeed most of the Pokemon on the team unless Tailwind is up.
Other than Ogerpon, this team is also full of special attackers that don't do as much damage to Pokemon with high special defense.
It may be a good idea to lead with Tornadus and Ogerpon when faced against Chi-Yu and Flutter Mane. Set up a Tailwind with Tornadus and knock out Flutter Mane immediately using Ogerpon.
