---|---|---|
Poison Point | Has a 30% chance to poison attackers that make direct contact with the user. | |
Water Absorb | The user restores up to 25% of its max HP instead of taking damage when hit with Water-type moves. | |
Unaware (Hidden) |
The user ignores the opponent's stat changes when attacking. |

EV Spread | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD* |
Final Stat Values | 237 HP / 95 Atk / 81 Def / 167 SpD / 40 Spe |
Ability | Water Absorb |
Tera Type | Keeps immunity to opponents' Toxic and removes Ice weakness. Toxic also has perfect accuracy as long as it has its Poison typing. |
Held Item | Leftovers |
Moveset | ・
Earthquake
・ Toxic ・ Stealth Rock ・ Recover |
*An Impish build with 252 Def / 4 SpD for physical tanking is also viable.
With this Clodsire, the player can take advantage of Water Absorb to switch in on an opponent's Water attack and gain the upper hand immediately on switching in.
With its bulk, it can handle setting up Toxic and Stealth Rock to wear down the opponent's team, and keep itself alive with Recover to limit its opponents' options.
Water Absorb removes its Water weakness, instead changing it to a second immunity.
This allows it to effectively wall common threats like Wash Rotom and Azumarill, and switch in on them without fear.
Yawn | Alternative for Toxic. Works well with Stealth Rock for forcing switches, and if your team has setup moves which can benefit from switchout turns and Sleep. |

EV Spread | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD |
Final Stat Values | 237 HP / 95 Atk / 81 Def / 167 SpD / 40 Spe |
Ability | Unaware |
Tera Type | Takes the place of Water Absorb. |

・ Yawn ・ Stealth Rock ・ Recover |
Unaware Pokemon are always an asset for their ability to shut down setup sweepers, and Clodsire takes it up a notch by forcing an already-set-up Pokemon to either switch or fall asleep with Yawn.
Clodsire can then take advantage of a switchout to set up Stealth Rock, and continue the Yawn-switch cycle to rack up damage against the opponent's team.
Amnesia / Curse | Ignore your opponents' setup moves while setting up yourself. Pairs well with Recover. |

Damage Received by Clodsire |
|
---|---|
84 ~ 99 (35.4 ~ 41.7%) Guaranteed 3-Hit KO |
※These calculations do not take Terastallization into consideration.
Clodsire has a great typing which allows it immunity to Electric moves, as well as Toxic. Defensively, it has high HP, allowing to lean into either physical or special defense, and its support movepool includes the likes of Yawn, Toxic, and Stealth Rock.
Although its offensive power is limited, Clodsire joins its cousin Quagsire as one of the top batters in the defensive and support lineup.
Special Tank | Setup Sweeper | Physical Tank |
---|---|---|
Clodsire | Roaring Moon | Corviknight |
Clodsire's Unaware can stop an opposing setup sweeper, allowing you to send out your own sweeper with Roaring Moon. If your opponent is ever so unfortunate as to fall asleep to Yawn, this will give a prime opportunity to switch it in and start setting up.
Corviknight can handle physical attackers which a special-leaning Clodsire would have trouble with, and its Flying type lets it safely switch in on a Ground move which would KO Clodsire.
Strategy | Best Pokemon |
---|---|
Taunt Users | ・Shuts down Clodsire's primary actions ・Flying types can avoid Earthquake |
Ground Types | ・Can hit with supereffective Ground-type Moves ・Can KO Clodsire and keep it from coming back for another round |
Clodsire is a tanky support Pokemon, but its damage output is low. It also usually only has Earthquake for an attacking choice, making it unable to even move if hit by Taunt by a Flying type.
If you can't Taunt it, a Ground type will make quick work of it to prevent it from causing any more trouble.
Clodsire learns Recover as an egg move, so in order to get Recover on Clodsire, first you need a Pokemon that knows the move. You will then need to make sure Clodsire has an empty move slot and give it a Mirror Herb.
Finally, set up a picnic with both Clodsire and the Pokemon that knows the egg move in your party and the move will be transferred to Clodsire (the other Pokemon still retains its moveset). Unlike previous generations, egg moves can now be transferred regardless of egg group, species or gender.
