Benefits from Rain due to Swift Swim Liquidation has a chance to lower Defense combined with Belly Drum Flexible Fourth Slot can be used to Debuff the Raid Boss while Building Tera Orb Charges |
The best ability for Poliwrath in Tera Raid Battles is Swift Swim. This will allow it to double its Speed under Rain while also getting a boost for its Water type Moves.
Liquidation is an amazing attacking move as it allows Poliwrath to passively lower the Raid Boss' Defense even through its shield. This, combined with Belly Drum allows Poliwrath to deal a ton of damage even with its mittling stats.
We recommend getting a Poliwrath with a Water Tera Type to use in Tera Raids so that it can get an additional boost on its STAB when it Terastallizes plus double its Speed due to Swift Swim. As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature would be best.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense. Give it a Shell Bell to recover HP when dealing damage with Liquidation.
Poliwrath Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Belly Drum to maximize Poliwrath's attack. |
Turns 2~4 | Use Mud-Slap or Chilling Water to build up Tera Orb Charges and Debuff the Raid Boss. |
Turns 5+ | Use Rain Dance to further boost Liquidation's power. |
Turns 5+ | Terastallize and use Liquidation repeatedly until the Raid Boss is defeated |
Similar to any other Belly Drum build, you will want to start a Tera Raid Battle by using Belly Drum to maximize your Attack Stat, before attacking with either Liquidation.
Use either Mud-Slap or Chilling Water to help out the team by debuffing the enemy, and use Rain Dance on passive turns to boost Liquidation's power.

This Poliwrath Tera Raid Build is an effective counter to Fire, Ground and Rock Type Tera Raid Bosses. If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Grass,Flying, Psychic, or Electric Type outside of Terastallization, perhaps consider a different build, as Poliwrath will be weak to these Types as a Water-Type attacker.

Metronome |
Amazing Attack Stat coupled with its Bulk. Access to Belly Drum and Drain Punch. Decent Physical and Special Bulk compared to other Belly Drum users. |
The best ability for Poliwrath in Tera Raid Battles is Water Absorb. This lets Poliwrath gain an immunity to Wtaer type moves and heal off any damage it may take and will recieve from using Belly Drum.
With access to both Taunt and Mud-Slap, Poliwrath is one of the best Pokemon to use againt Water Type Raid Bosses who have a Fighting Weak Tera Type that like to use high damage moves like Hydro Pump or setting up Rain with Rain Dance.
A Fighting Tera Type in conjunction with a Metronome held item, allows Poliwrath to have great damage output combined with healing with consecutive Drain Punches.
As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature would work best for this Pokemon.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards increasing the Pokemon's HP and Attack. Max out your HP, and Atk EVs, while putting the remaining points into Special Defense. This allows Poliwrath to have decent bulk, while still having high offense.
Give Poliwrath a Metronome to boost the damage output of Drain Punch by 10% each time it is used consecutively!
Poliwrath Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Taunt to prevent stat drops from status moves or Rain. |
Turns 2~4 | Use Mud-Slap three times to build Tera Orb Charges. This will also help in getting a few free turns. |
Turn 5 | Use Belly Drum. However, depending on the behavior of the Raid Boss, feel free to swap the debuffs and buffs if needed. |
Low HP Turn | Use Drain Punch to regain HP |
Turns 6+ | Use Drain Punch to deal large damage while also replenishing HP. Terastallize when possible. |
Start out the Tera Raid Battle by using Taunt to prevent stat drops from Status Moves.
Follow with 3 Mud-Slaps to help the team out through scoring free turns due to Raid Boss missing its moves. Depending on the behavior of the Raid Boss, feel free to swap out the two set up moves if needed. Use Drain Punch when HP is Low to regain HP.
Proceed to attack consecutively with Drain Punch to boost it's damage each turn, while also replenishing your HP.
When you have enough Tera Orb charge to terastallize, proceed to Terastalize and start spamming Drain Punch to damage the raid Pokemon's shield and finish the battle!
