Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Map App
The Map shows your current location and landmarks in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) through icons. Read on to learn how the Map works, how to use it, and what landmark icons you can see on the map.

How the Map Works

Shows the Player's Current Location and Nearby Landmarks

Player Map Location in Paldea - Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV)

The Map in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet shows exactly where you are in the Paldea Region. So in case you feel that you've gotten lost, or you can't find the place you're looking for, check the Map out by pressing the Y Button!

How to Use the Map

Set Your Destination

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Destination Marker

You can set your destination anywhere in Paldea by accessing the Map and marking the place you want to go. While traveling, your minimap will indicate where your destination is at all times. This allows you to reach that place faster and easier—Paldea is a huge region, after all!

This will be useful if you're headed toward that next Gym Leader, Titan Pokemon, or Team Star Boss!

Story Walkthrough

Find Pokemon Mass Outbreaks

Pokemon Mass Outbreak Icon - Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV)

Another way to use the map is to look for Mass Outbreaks of Pokemon. Sometimes, icons of Pokemon will show up on the map with glowing red icons right behind them. This means that specific Pokemon are appearing in large numbers in that area.

Be careful to tell the difference between a Mass Outbreak symbol and a regular Pokemon Icon, which simply tells you that you can find that specific Pokemon in the area but is not having a Mass Outbreak.

How do Mass Outbreaks Work?

Use the Flying Taxi!

Using the Flying Taxi - Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV)

If you've visited a location before, you can go back to it using the Flying Taxi service as long as its icon has a wing on the lower right-hand side. This is very useful if you need to backtrack or buy an item or outfit from places you visited early in the game like Mesagoza.

What to Do When You Can't Find a Pokemon?

Hold a Picnic to Force Respawn Pokemon in an Area

Picnic with Friends

If you see Pokemon Icons on the map and you can't seem to find them anywhere in the area you're in, holding a picnic resets the Pokemon spawn in your immediate vicinity. Once you pack up your picnic, the Pokemon you want to find may finally spawn.

If you find a black question mark with the same glowing red symbol behind it, it still means that a Mass Outbreak is occurring, but the Pokemon affected is not registered in your Pokedex yet.
Normal Pokemon Icon - Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) Aside from Mass Outbreak icons, you will also find icons of Pokemon without the red symbol behind them. This means that it's possible to find this wild Pokemon in the area, but it is not guaranteed.
