Some Pokemon are able to set Terrain simply by entering the field. These are Pokemon with Abilities like Psychic Surge which sets up Psychic Terrain when it enters the field. Different Terrains have their own effects, each different from each other, such as preventing certain moves from being used, preventing status conditions, or increasing the damage of moves of certain types.
Move | Type | Effect |
---|---|---|
Electric Terrain | Prevents Pokemon on the ground from sleeping and boosts the effectiveness of Electric-type moves on grounded Pokemon by 30%. Lasts for 5 turns. | |
Grassy Terrain | Heals 6.25% HP of Pokemon on the ground per turn and increases the damage of Grass-type moves by 30% for five turns. | |
Ice Spinner | The move destroys any terrain, and does not fail even if the ground hasn't been turned into a terrain. | |
Misty Terrain | This protects Pokemon on the ground from status conditions and halves damage from Dragon-type moves for five turns. | |
Psychic Terrain | Protects Pokemon on the ground from priority moves and powers up Psychic-type moves by 30% for five turns. | |
Steel Roller | The user attacks while destroying the terrain. The move fails if the ground hasn't been turned into a terrain. |
Some Pokemon are able to set Terrain manually using these Moves. This often comes with the advantage of coming after a Pokemon switches in. So if a Pokemon with a Terrain Ability enters the field, its effect will trigger first, allowing a Pokemon to set up Terrain right after.
