Ability and Held Item

Slaking makes use of Clear Amulet to ensure that it never has to have its Attack stat lowered by Intimidate. Its only Ability is Truant, which forces it to do nothing every other turn. Its partners should usually have ways to remove Slaking's Truant to keep it useful.

Moves Breakdown

Body Slam is Slaking's main STAB Move that also has a chance at paralyzing opposing Pokemon. Sucker Punch gives Slaking a Priority Move option which it can use when it has to move before an opponent.

Slaking is in a good position to sweep after a successful Bulk Up improving its Attack and Defense.

Drain Punch helps it recover HP during battle.

Best Tera Type

Slaking makes use of Fire Tera to protect it from Will-O-Wisp burns. With Tera Fire and Clear Amulet, Slaking's Attack stat can never be dropped.

EV Spread and Nature

Maximizing Speed EVs and a Jolly Nature ensures that Slaking will always outspeed Pokemon with Base 98 and lower. Notable Pokemon that Slaking outspeeds are Hydreigon, Krookodile, Arcanine, and Quaquaval.

A maximum 252 are then put into its Attack Stat so that our Slaking build always hits as hard as it can, without sacrificing Speed. The remaining EVs are then put into HP.

Other Viable Moves

Shadow Claw Shadow Claw gives Slaking a more consistent way to damage Ghost-types.

Use it to Get 2-Hit KOs

Slaking, while powerful, isn't always going to get OHKOs even on Pokemon with only moderate bulk. Teammates who can help it get opponents into 2HKO range are great for Slaking to have.

Have Teammates That Can Remove Slaking's Ability

Moves like Doodle and Skill Swap can help Slaking be rid of its horrible Ability. Having Slaking lose Truant can make it an effective Pokemon on your team.

How to Build a Team with Slaking

Slaking's best partner in Scarlet and Violet is Grafaiai. With Covert Cloak granting it an immunity from Fake Out as well as having Prankster as an Ability, Grafaiai can consistently Doodle away Slaking's Truant.

Grafaiai is Slaking's main ally in most matchups, where it can use Prankster Doodle to remove Slaking's Truant. Because Slaking may have trouble getting knock outs, Flutter Mane and Dragonite are good Pokemon to have in the back who can clean up low HP Pokemon and seal the game.

Additionally, Flutter Mane matches up favorably against other Ghost-types who Slaking struggles against, with Fluttermane outspeeding and threatening with Shadow Ball.

Stop Grafaiai's Doodle

Several Pokemon have immunities to Prankster Doodle. Psychic Surge prevents Priority Moves from being used, Dark-type Pokemon are immune to Prankster moves, and some Abilities like Protosynthesis and Quark Drive are unaffected by Doodle.
