Protect Trick Room

Psychic is Mesprit's only damaging move. Use this on turns where Mesprit has to deal damage.

Imprison is the most important move of the set, locking out Protect and Trick Room from opponents, preventing them from protecting themselves or setting up Trick Room.

Protect can keep Mesprit safe on some turns where it is in danger of getting targeted. Having Protect in the same set as Imprison can prevent opponents from using Protect.

Trick Room can reverse the turn order, allowing Mesprit's slower teammates to outspeed quicker opponents. But this is mainly on the set to lock out our opponent's Trick Room option, allowing Mesprit's quicker teammates to always have the Speed advantage.

Use Mesprit to Prevent Trick Room

Imprisoning Trick Room can help your team against opposing Trick Room, stopping your opponents from setting it up at all.

Similarly, locking out Protect with Imprison can help Mesprit's offensive teammates attack indiscriminately.

If your team needs a Psychic-type Trick Room setter, Cresselia may be the way to go. Do not use them for similar purposes as Mesprit is significantly less bulky compared to Cresselia.

How to Build a Team with Mesprit

Imprison Mesprit is best suited with fast and offensive Pokemon. Without the fear of Trick Room, its teammates can remain on the offensive for the duration of the battle.
