Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Harvest | Sitrus Berry |
The Ability chosen for this build is Harvest. This has a 50% chance of restoring Trevenant's berry after it is used.
The item chosen for this build is a Sitrus Berry. This allows Trevenant to restore some of its lost health after it is reduced to half HP.
Poltergeist | Horn Leech |
Leech Seed | Curse |
Poltergeist is its strongest Ghost-type STAB move, but it only has 90% accuracy and it will only work if the opponent is holding an item.
Horn Leech is its best Grass-type STAB move since it will heal Trevenant for half of the damage it deals.
Leech Seed allows Trevenant to deal chip damage to non-Grass types on the opponent's side of the field. It will also heal Trevenant for the same amount of damage dealt.
Curse can be used in two different ways in this build.
When Trevenant is in its Ghost-typing, it will reduce its HP by half to activate its Sitrus Berry and to deal 25% of the target's max HP at the end of every turn.
When Trevenant Terastallizes to Normal, it will reduce its Speed by one stage and boost both its Attack and Defense by one stage.
Normal Tera Type Matchup | ||
---|---|---|
Weak to: | ||
(2x) | ||
Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Immune to: | (0x) |
Normal is the best Tera Type for this build because it makes Trevenant immune to Ghost-type attacks. Also, its only weakness is Fighting, which it would otherwise be immune to.
It is important that it doesn't have a Ghost Tera so that it can also make use of Curse's Attack and Defense boosts.
Best Ghost (Tera) Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
A full 252 EVs are placed in Trevenant's HP and Defense to make it as physically bulky as possible. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Sp. Def to help round out its bulk.
An Impish nature is preferred to maximize its physical defenses. Alternatively, you could use a Relaxed nature to reduce its Speed and make it faster under Trick Room.
Will-O-Wisp | Burns the target and punishes physical attackers by havling their attack stat. |
---|---|
Substitute
+ Protect |
The combination of these two turns can heavily stall out turns, allowing for more Leech Seed healing and damage. |
Shadow Claw | A much weaker Ghost-type STAB move that doesn't require the target to have a held item to hit. |

Harvest | Aguav Berry |
The Ability chosen for this build is Harvest. This has a 50% chance of restoring Trevenant's berry after it is used.
The item chosen for this build is a Aguav Berry. This allows Trevenant to restore some of its lost health after it is reduced to 1/3 of its HP.
Poltergeist | Horn Leech |
Trick Room | Protect |
Poltergeist is its strongest Ghost-type STAB move, but it only has 90% accuracy and it will only work if the opponent is holding an item.
Horn Leech is its best Grass-type STAB move since it will heal Trevenant for half of the damage it deals.
Trick Room allows Trevenant to reverse turn order, giving itself and slow teammates a speed advantage.
And lastly Protect can help Trevenant on turns when it might get targeted down by both opponents, or when it is in danger of taking a super-effective attack.
Water Tera Type Matchup | ||
---|---|---|
Weak to: | ||
(2x) | ||
Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Resists: | (0.5x) | |
Water is the best Tera Type for this build because it makes Trevenant resistant to Fire and Ice, and allows it to take neutral damage from Flying, Ghost, and Dark.
Best WaterPokemon for Ranked Battle
A full 252 EVs are placed in Trevenant's HP, with a good split to its defenses with 116 Defense EVs, and 140 Special Defense EVs.
An Careful nature is preferred to maximize its special defenses.
Will-O-Wisp | Burns the target and punishes physical attackers by havling their attack stat. |
---|---|
Ally Switch | A powerful and annoying option that allows Trevenant to switch positions with its ally. |
Wood Hammer | A poweful Grass-type STAB option that deals recoil damage to Trevenant. |
Terastallization becomes a very interesting tool on Trevenant because of the move Curse. As a Ghost-type, Curse can be used to punish more passive Pokemon by dealing 25% of their max HP as damage at the end of every turn. However, as a Normal-type, Curse will boost Trevenant Attack and Defense instead.
Depending on the enemy's team, there could be situations where you wouldn't want to Terastallize so that Curse can out-DPS opposing stall Pokemon. Against more offensive teams, it might be better to use Terastallization so that Trevenant can get Defense boosts instead.
Trevenant is best used as a defensive Pokemon that can either tank hits for its allies or as a complement to other stall Pokemon that want to slowly bleed out their opponents.
Hazard Setters | Physical Wall | Special Wall |
---|---|---|
Glimmora | Trevenant | Empoleon |
Glimmora is used to set up Stealth Rocks and Toxic Spikes to deal consistent chip damage to the opponent's Pokemon.
Trevenant can then come in against physical attackers and slowly whittle them down with Horn Leech and Leech Seed.
Empoleon is used to cover for some of Trevenant's key weaknesses. It also has access to Flip Turn which is used to offensively pivot around your Pokemon.
Physical Attacker / Trick Room Setter | Offensive Tank |
---|---|
Trevenant | Iron Hands |
Special Attacker | Special Attacker / Rain Setter |
Bloodmoon Ursaluna | Politoed |
Iron Hands can help Trevenant set up Trick Room with Fake Out support. Politoed's Drizzle can set up Rain, reducing the effectiveness of Fire-type Attacks, which could help Trevenant stay in the match longer.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna can function well in Trick Room, being a slow Pokemon with a high Special Attack stat.
