When Ogrepon has a Mask Held Item (Wellspring Mask, Hearthflame Mash, or Cornerstone Mask, not the Teal Mask base form), it receives an additional 20% damage boost on all moves, regardless of whether they are STAB or not.
This bonus also applies even if Ogrepon is not Terastallized. This amounts to a total of a 1.7x damage boost when accounting for STAB + Mask Boost. If Terastallized and using a move which matches the Tera Type, this reaches up to a 2.2x Damage boost!
State when Attacking | Damage Boost |
---|---|
Holding Mask | 1.2x |
Holding Mask + using a STAB move | 1.7x |

Doesn't need to Terastallize to perform well. Only Ogerpon form that can easily deal with Dragonite. Cannot be OHKO thanks to Sturdy. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Sturdy | Cornerstone Mask |
Ogerpon's Ability when it is in its Cornerstone Mask form is Sturdy, which grants it a built in Focus Sash, protecting Ogerpon from getting OHKOd by attacks if it is at full HP. Ogerpon also uniquely has Embody Aspect, an additional ability that triggers upon Terastallization, that gives Ogerpon a stat boost based on what Mask it is wearing.
In this form, Ogerpon will get a Defense boost upon Terastallization.
The chosen Held Item for this build is the Cornerstone Mask, which will change Ogerpon's type to Rock / Grass when held.
Ivy Cudgel | Horn Leech |
Knock Off | Quick Attack |
Ivy Cudgel, or 'Rock Cudgel' as it is sometimes called in the community, is a powerful STAB move with 100 Base Power. It will be a Rock-type Attack in this build.
Horn Leech is a Grass-type STAB move that heals Ogerpon for half of the damage it deals. It also synergizes well with this form since it will reset Sturdy if Ogerpon is healed back to full.
Knock Off is a strong utility move that can also be disruptive because of its ability to remove an opposing Pokemon's valuable Held Item.
Quick Attack is a +1 priority move that can guarantee a knock out before the opponent uses its own move.

Full Attack and Speed EV investment, as well as an Adamant Nature ensures that Ogerpon hits as hard and as fast as possible with its moves, while the remaining 4 EVs are placed in Def to slightly boost its bulk.
Power Whip | If you do not value the healing from Horn Leech, then use Power Whip since it has significantly more damage. |

Encore can punish defensive plays by locking opponents into a move which they will be forced to use repeatedly. This is best used after turns where an opponent used Protect or Fake Out, or any Status move.
Spiky Shield can protect Ogerpon and deal a small amount of damage to the opponent upon contact.

Sturdy prevents Ogerpon from getting knocked out while at full HP, while Horn Leech heals it for half of the damage dealt. Whenever you aren't at full HP, you Horn Leech to try and restore your HP back to full so that Sturdy is active again.
Utilize the Defense boost Ogerpon gets from Embody Aspect while Terastallized to resist hits from moves like Extreme Speed on Dragonite and Arcanine or Facade from Ursaluna.
Ogerpon's Cornerstone Mask form has the least amount of resistances out of all the forms, but is a great switch in into many strong Pokemon and moves in the meta game.
Sturdy Lead | Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) | Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style | Heatran |
Since Ogerpon's Cornerstone Mask form is best used as a defensive Pokemon, it is best paired with other Pokemon that can complete the defensive typing core of Water, Grass, and Fire.
Between Urshifu Rapid Strike, Ogerpon, and Heatran, these three are able to resist most of the damage types in the game.
Trick Room / Special Attacker | Follow Me / Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Cresselia | Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) |
Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
Iron Hands | Enamorus (Therian Forme) |
With access to Sturdy and Follow Me, Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon makes for a great support Pokemon to enable Trick Room teams. Ogerpon can also threaten knock outs on opposing Pokemon like Tornadus or Chi-Yu while still providing Follow Me support for other Pokemon in the back.
While Ogerpon is decently fast, Priority and faster Pokemon can handily deal with it.
The best users of Priority are the combo of Chien-Pao and Dragonite, who both can threaten Ogerpon with their offensive options.
Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Chien-Pao | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Chien-Pao is able to threaten 2/4 of the Ogerpon forms with its access to powerful Ice STAB Attacks and Sword of Ruin Ability. ▶️Chien-Pao Best Movesets |
Dragonite | Ranking: ★★★★
・Chien-Pao's usual partner, Dragonite resists most Ivy Cudgel types, and can hit back with powerful Extreme Speeds and Flying Tera Blasts ・Is especially effective next to Chien-Pao with its Sword of Ruin Ability. ▶️Dragonite Best Movesets |
