The defensive EV Spread for this build allows Toedscruel to survive a Choice Banded Dragapult's Dragon Darts, as long as it doesn't damage you for its maximum possible damage.
Toedscruel's Mycelium Might ignores the opponent's ability when using status moves, so it can put both Garganacl and Gholdengo to sleep, regardless of their immunity.
Mycelium Might, however only ignores the opponent's ability during the turn the move was used, so Pokemon like Annihilape with the Vital Spirit ability will wake up immediately.
The Steel Tera type allows Toedscruel to resist three of its usual weaknesses: Ice, Bug, and Flying.
Giga Drain | Good coverage move against Azumarill and Dondozo |

Foul Play | Good alternative to deal heavy damage against Physical Attackers like Dragapult. |

Moveset | ・
Spore
・ Leech Seed ・ Knock Off ・ Giga Drain |
Toedscruel's plethora of support moves make it an unpredictable and surprisingly effective defensive pivot. Its Mycelium Might Ability gives it a niche as one of the few Pokemon that can inflict status on both Garganacl and Gholdengo, bypassing their Abilities completely.
Spore is its main support move, allowing it to inflict and shut down setup sweepers and defensive Pokemon. Used in tandem with Leech Seed, Toedscruel can stall teams while also removing their held items with Knock Off.
Its last move is Giga Drain, which gives it some form of recovery and a way to check defensive Water, Rock, and Ground-types.
This build has Water Tera typing, but is mostly used defensively so that it can remove its middling 4x weakness to Ice-type moves. Grass Tera type is also an option to ensure it still has immunity to powder moves.
Toxic | Toxic is a great alternative to Knock Off to make Toedscruel even more difficult to switch into. Keep in mind that since Toedscruel isn't a Poison-type, it only has 90% Accuracy. |
---|---|
Rapid Spin | Another good alternative to Knock Off that allows Toedscruel to remove entry hazards. |

Moveset | ・
Rage Powder
・ Spore ・ Knock Off ・ Protect |
Toedscruel is one of the few Pokemon that can learn Rage Powder through an egg move, allowing it to fill the role of redirection support in Doubles. What separates it from Amoonguss is its Mycelium Might Ability, which allows the Woodear Pokemon to bypass Gholdengo and Garganacl's Abilities and inflict debilitating status on them.
Spore is a powerful status move that inflicts sleep on the target Pokemon, giving Toedscruel's ally a safe turn to setup or recover lost health.
Knock Off gives it additional utility by removing held items from opposing Pokemon, while Protect allows it to scout moves and protect it from its ally mult-target moves.
This build has Poison Tera typing and is mostly used defensively so that Toedscruel can better handle Grass, Fighting, and Fairy-type moves. Grass Tera type is another option to ensure that it's immune to Spore and other powder moves.
Toxic | A good alternative to Knock Off and becomes a 100% accurate move when Toeadscruel terastallizes into a Poison-type. |
---|---|
Leech Seed | Toedscruel can forgo Protect for Leech Seed so that it can pressure Garganacl, which usually lacks a recovery move outside of Leftovers. |
Although Toedscruel can go on the offensive thanks to its great 100 Base Speed stat, it stands out as one of the few defensive Pokemon that can outstall Garganacl thanks to its Mycelium Might Ability bypassing Purifying Salt.
The same Ability also allows it to bypass Gholdengo and, couple with its naturally high Special Defense, allow the Woodear Pokemon to shut it down with Spore and make it easier for its allies to revenge kill.
Toedscruel is one of the few Pokemon apart from Amoonguss and Volcarona that can learn Rage Powder, giving it a niche in Doubles as a redirection support and utility Pokemon.
Though it doesn't have Amoonguss' great dual typing, access to Knock Off allows it to check and threaten opposing support Pokemon by removing their held items.
Toedscruel is a good option for teams that are in need of a defensive pivot, and is easy to fit in both balanced and offensive team compositions in both Singles and Doubles.
Lead Attacker | Defensive Pivot | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Palafin | Toedscruel | Hydreigon |
Palafin requires to pivot out of the battle with Flip Turn to activate its Zero to Hero Ability and get a stat boost. Toedscruel is a great defensive pivot as it's immune to Electric-type moves that Palafin is weak to, and can also inflict status and remove hazards so that Palafin can switch back in safely.
Hydreigon is this team's special attacker and like Palafin, appreciates the status moves Toedscruel inflicts and makes it easier to setup with Nasty Plot.
Lead Attacker | Redirection Support |
---|---|
Maushold | Toedscruel |
Tailwind Support | Special Attacker |
Salamence | Gholdengo |
Maushold's ability to deal high damage with its Population Bomb makes it a priorty target in Doubles. Toedscruel helps alleviate the pressure by redirection moves with Rage Powder and inflicting Spore on defensive Pokemon.
Salamence fills the role of an offensive Tailwind setter and can also provide Helping Hand support, while Gholdengo also appreciates redirection support as it can safely setup with Nasty Plot to deal increased damage with Make it Rain.
Despite Toedscruel mainly functioning as a defensive Pokemon, its weakness to the most common attacking types in the metagame hampers its ability to stay on the field.
Toedscruel also has low HP and Defense that offsets its high Special Defense, making it weak to repeated physical attacks even with full investment.
Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Chien-Pao | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Easily KOs Toedscruel even with full HP and Defense investment with STAB Icicle Crash with a Jolly Nature. ・Can setup with Swords Dance if Toedscruel decides to switch. ▶️Chien-Pao Best Movesets |
Iron Moth | Ranking: ★★★★

Armarouge | Ranking: ★★★★
・Faster than Toedscruel with a Modest Nature and easily KOs with STAB Armor Cannon. ・Boasts 2x resistance to Toedscruel's Grass-type moves. ▶️Armarogue Best Movesets |
Mycelium Might forces Toedscruel to move last during the turn it uses a status move even if it's faster than the opposing Pokemon. This means that Toedscruel will always get inflicted by status against slower defensive on the turn it decides to use a status move.
Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Toxapex | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Will always inflict Toxic before Toedscruel has a chance to use Spore. ・Great mixed bulk and neutral to Grass-type moves mean Toxapex doesn't mind being put to sleep. ▶️Toxapex Best Movesets |
Ting-Lu | Ranking: ★★★★
