Stealth Rock
・ Earthquake ・ Yawn ・ Flip Turn |
Swampert's base stats make it naturally bulky. Can punish setup leads with Yawn. Fills a similar role to Stealth Rock Empleon for teams that need a more physically defensive lead. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Damp | Sitrus Berry |
The Ability chosen for this build is Damp. This prevents the opponent from pulling off any Explosion strategies.
The item chosen for this build is a Sitrus Berry. This lets Swampert recover some of its lost health when it is reduced to half HP.
Stealth Rock | Earthquake |
Yawn | Flip Turn |
Stealth Rock is used to deal chip damage to any Pokemon on the opponent's side that switches in, potentially disabling a Focus Sash, Multiscale or Sturdy.
Earthquake is Swampert's best Ground-type STAB move with no downsides.
Yawn punishes any setup leads by forcing them to switch out or else they will fall asleep at the end of the next turn.
Flip Turn lets Swampert swap out of certain matchups allowing a better Pokemon to switch in.

Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Resists: | (0.5x) | |
Immune to: | (0x) |
Steel is the best Tera Type for this build because it turns Swampert's crippling Grass weakness into a resist while also being one of the best defensive types in the game.
Best Steel Type Pokemon
A full 252 EVs are placed in Swampert's HP and Defense to make it as physically bulky as possible. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Sp. Def to help round out its bulk.
An Impish nature is preferred to help maximize its physical bulk.
Ice Punch
or Ice Beam |
Helps Swampert deal with Grass-type matchups. If using Ice Beam, change Swampert's nature to Relaxed so it doesn't have -Sp. Atk. |
---|---|
Liquidation | Gives Swampert a Water-type STAB move that doesn't force it to switch out. |
Knock Off | A good utility move that removes the opponent's held item. |

Game8's Competitive Damage Calculator
While Swampert's main role is to set up Stealth Rocks for its team, it can still be used as a defensive pivot to tank hits for its teammates. It can then follow up with Yawn to allow for safer switch-ins for its allies.
For Singles, Swampert will set up Stealth Rocks for its allies on turn one, then it can use Flip Turn to scout for a good matchup for one its allies in the back.
Hazards Lead | Special Attacker | Physical Attacker |
---|---|---|
Swampert | Flutter Mane | Chien-Pao |
Swampert disables any items or abilities that prevent a Pokemon from getting OHKO'd on the opponent's side with Stealth Rock or Flip Turn.
Once Swampert switches out, fast attackers like Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao can come in and get quick OHKOs.
