How to Use Hisuian Zoroark Effectively

Protect it From Super-Effective Hits

Because it has mediocre defenses, it is important to know which Pokemon Hisuian Zoroark outspeeds, and which it cannot take in a 1-on-1 duel.

Use Its Illusion Wisely

Illusion is a tricky Ability to use, and can fail if the opponent is able to correctly deduce that a Pokemon is Hisuian Zoroark. Having it come in as a support Pokemon, preferably a Normal-type, can sometimes work, as unprepared opponents may ignore it or use the wrong move on it.

How to Build a Team with Hisuian Zoroark

It is good to have plenty of different options for Hisuian Zoroark to disguise itself into. A team with an assortment of different types can make Hisuian Zoroark difficult to predict.

Sample Singles Team

Physical Attacker Special Attacker Special Attacker
Hisuian Zoroark ImageHisuian Zoroark Hydreigon ImageHydreigon Gholdengo ImageGholdengo

Hisuian Zoroark can lead off a match disguised as Gholdengo. This may cause opponents to play defensively and scout, suspecting it of being Hisuian Zoroark, or attack into it with a Ghost-type Move. Hydreigon works as a good switch-in for Hisuian Zoroark and Gholdengo, being resistant to Dark, and immune to Ground thanks to its Levitate Ability. it can also be a formidable attacker late-game, once Hisuian Zoroark and Gholdengo have contributed to a match.

Sample Doubles Sun Team

Physical Attacker Support / Redirection
Hisuian Zoroark ImageHisuian Zoroark Amoonguss ImageAmoonguss
Support / Redirection Special Attacker
Maushold ImageMaushold Gholdengo ImageGholdengo

Hisuian Zoroark can lead off a match disguised as Maushold. Opponents fearing Population Bomb may play defensively and use Protect. This sets up a perfect opportunity for Hisuian Zoroark to set up a Substitute, set up multiple Swords Dance and sweep.

Amoonguss and Maushold can both offer redirection support through Rage Powder and Follow Me, while Gholdengo is in the back as a last resort who functions as a late-game sweeper.

Counters for Hisuian Zoroark

Wall Its Offense or Use Priority Moves

Hisuian Zoroark, while having amazing defensive typing, does not have the best offensive typing. This means it can easily be walled by Steel-types or Dark-types.

Priority Moves can also make quick work of it. Even though it has a comfortable base 110 Speed and will outprioritize the likes of Palafin, it can only target a single opponent with Shadow Sneak, making it susceptible to other Pokemon on the field. Hisuian Zoroark relies heavily on prediction and struggles when it fails to be unpredictable itself.
