Summary

Appletun's great HP and mixed bulk on top of its resistances to Grass-type makes it a great choice to counter Tera raids bosses that mainly deal Grass Type Damage. It's main draw is Apple Acid, which is an 80 BP Grass-type move that always lowers the target's Sp.Def by one stage.

Since this build is equipped with Shell Bell, Thick Fat is the better Ability since Appletun will not benefit from Ripen or Gluttony without a berry.

Best Tera Type

Grass Tera Type is best for this build to further boost the power of Appletun's Grass-type moves. A Modest Nature is necessary so that it can hit as hard as possible with its special moves.

EV Spread Explanation

Max out Appletun's Def and Sp.Atk EVs while adding the remaining 4 EVs into HP so that Appletun can hit as hard as possible with Giga Drain and Apple Acid.

For this build, giving it a Shell Bell allows it to recover health while dealing damage.

Tera Raid Strategy

Appletun Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1 Use Reflect to double Appletun's Defense for five turns.
Turn 2 Use Iron Defense to raise Appletun's Defense by two stages.
Turns 3~5 Use Apple Acid three times to deal damage and build up Tera Orb Charge, while lowering the Raid Boss' Sp.Def by three stages.
Note: If Appletun received a critical hit in the previous turns, use Giga Drain instead for more healing.
Turns 6+ Terastallize into a pure Grass-type and use boosted Apple Acid to deal damage to opponent's shield while constantly lowering its Sp.Def by one stage per attack.

Start the battle by using Reflect to double Appletun's Defense for five turns. Next, use Iron Defense once to raise Appletun's Defense by two stages.

Use Apple Acid three times to deal damage, build up Tera Orb Charge, and lower Raid Boss' Sp.Def by three stages. If Appletun received a critical hit in any of the previous turns, use Giga Drain instead to restore more health.

Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, terastallize into a pure Grass-type and use boosted Apple Acid to deal damage to opponent's shield and finish the battle.

This Grass Tera Raid Build is an effective counter to Rock, Water, and Ground Tera Raids.

If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Flying, Bug, Ice, Dragon, Fairy and Poison-type outside of Terastallization, perhaps use a different build as Appletun will be weak to these Types.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Sitrus Berry ImageSitrus Berry

Summary

The best Ability for Appletun in Tera Raid Battles is Ripen which doubles the recovery it receives from its Sitrus Berry.

Best Tera Type

We also recommend getting a Appletun with a Grass Tera Type because this will boost Appletun's STAB Giga Drain and Apple Acid when it Terastallizes. As a Special Attacker, a Modest nature would be best.

EV Spread Explanation

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Special Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense.

Tera Raid Strategy

Grass Tera Appletun Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1~3 Repeatedly use Apple Acid to deal damage to the Raid Pokemon. This will consistently reduce its Special Defense with each successful hit, while charging your Tera Orb.
Turn 4 Use Iron Defense to boost your Defense by two stages
Optional Use Recover whenever HP gets too low
Turns 5+ Terastallize and Alternate between Giga Drain to deal damage while replenishing HP, and Apple Acid.

Focus on accumulating Tera Orb Charge at the start of the battle using Apple Acid. This also lowers its Special Defense by one stage for each successful hit, increasing Appletun's damage each time.

Use Iron Defense to boost its Defense by two stages. Make sure to use Recover to heal off lost health.

Once you are able to, Terastallize and alternate between Giga Drain to deal damage and recover HP, and Apple Acid to further decrease the Raid Pokemon's Sp. Def, until it reaches -6.
