Vessel of Ruin cuts the opponent's Special Attack by 25%. Can phaze with Whirlwind and Stealth Rock. Ruination reduces the opponent's HP by 50%. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Vessel of Ruin | Leftovers |
Vessel of Ruin reduces the opposing Pokemon's Special Attack stat by 25%, making Ting-Lu an effective mixed wall thanks to its great natural bulk.
Leftovers is necessary for this build since Ting-Lu lacks any form of recovery.
Earthquake | Stealth Rock |
Whirlwind | Ruination |
Earthquake is Ting-Lu's main STAB move and still hits hard even without investment thanks to its base 110 Attack stat.
Stealth Rock and Whirlwind allow it to set up entry hazards and phase setup sweepers and opposing defensive Pokemon.
Its last move is Ruination, which cuts the opponent's HP by 50%. This is a very useful move that dissuades opposing walls from staying against Ting-Lu and help its teammates hit important KOs.

Best Poison Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
We're using a modified defensive EV spread with 244 HP EVs and 190 Def EVs and an Impish Nature, whie 84 Sp.Def EVs rounds of its bulk and is just enough for Ting-Lu to shrug weak special attacks thanks to Vessel of Ruin.
Bulldoze | A weaker Ground-type move that lowers the target's Speed stat by one stage. |

Earthquake
・ Taunt ・ Whirlwind ・ Stealth Rock |
Has great durability thanks to its high HP and Def stats, combined with its Vessel of Ruins Ability. Has excellent support and disruption utility with access to Stealth Rock and Whirlwind. Has access to Earthquake for decent damage output. |
Ting-Lu has excellent bulk, combined with a great Ability, Vessel of Ruin which lowers the Special Attack of opposing Pokemon. Ting-Lu also has access to Stealth Rock, making it one of the bulkiest Stealth Rock setters in the game. Ting-Lu can even withstand a +2 Attack Life Orb boosted Play Rough from Mimkyu.
Ting-Lu can set up Stealth Rock and then use Whirlwind to bring out another Pokemon to take Stealth Rock damage. It can also avoid bad lead matchups by Whirlwinding unfavorable matchups away. A pokemon that outspeeds Ting-Lu and has access to Taunt can quickly shut these strategies down however.
Ruination | The user summons a ruinous disaster. This cuts the target’s HP in half. |

Moveset | ・
Ruination
・ Stomping Tantrum ・ Fissure ・ Heavy Slam |
Has great durability thanks to its high HP and Def stats, combined with its Vessel of Ruins Ability. Fissure's has a small chance of OHKOing an opponent, and can boost Stomping Tantrum's damage when it fails.. Has access to Ruination, which can set up KOs for its teammates. This builld will always survive Flutter Mane's Moonblast after Beads of Ruin, and OHKO Chi-Yu with Stomping Tantrum, and Flutter Mane with Heavy Slam. |
Ting-Lu is one of the only Pokemon in the game with enough bulk to allow it to tank a hit from almost any Pokemon, without risking getting one-shot. As it does not get any access to healing moves, it will not be able to sustain multiple hits and function as a wall, so it is best suited in a regular offensive team.
Ting-Lu is best suited in defensive teams with physical attackers who don't mind their Special Attack dropped. Ting-Lu being on the field can boost the overall special bulk of itself and its ally with its Vessel of Ruin Ability.
Offensive Sweeper | Leftovers Ting-Lu | Offensive / Utility |
---|---|---|
Palafin | Ting-Lu | Gholdengo |
As Ting-Lu's is the bulky disruptor of the team, Ting-Lu teams up well with offensive attackers that can cover its weaknesses, such as Palafin, Gholdengo and Flutter Mane.
Support / Physical Attacker | Support / Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Ting-Lu | Arcanine |
Support / Redirection | Physical Attacker |
Amoonguss | Annihilape |
Ting-Lu and Arcanine make for an incredibly defensive pair to lead off with, with the pair being able to reduce both offensive stats with their Abilities. Amoonguss is a great switch-in for Ting-Lu, resisting most of its weaknesses. Annihilape benefits from Ting-Lu and Arcanine's offensive debuffs, giving it more durability to take hits and power up Rage Fist.
Strategy | Best Pokemon |
---|---|
Choice Flower Trick Best |
・Can also handle threats in the back ・Good counters regardless of Tera Type. |
Offensive Ice Sweepers | ・Strong against Ting-Lu's original typing, as well as its Grass Tera variation ・If one of the Pokemon in the back are also weak to Ice, these counters are even more viable. |
Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Chien-Pao | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Chien-Pao can ignore Vessel of Ruin thanks to being a Physical Attacker. ・Lowers Ting-Lu's Defense with its Sword of Ruin Ability. ・Deals super effective STAB Ice damage, regardless of whether Ting-Lu Terastallizes to Grass or not. ▶️Chien-Pao Best Move Sets |
Meowscarada | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Can deal large super effective damage with its Flower Trick attack. ・Ignores Vessel of Ruin Special Attack drop, thanks to being a Physical Attacker. ・If Ting-Lu Terastallizes to Grass, it can still deal decent damage thanks to its Protean Ability ▶️Meowscarada Best Move Sets |
Breloom |
Breloom may seem like a good counter to Ting-Lu at first glance, with the ability to outspeed and use Spore on Ting-Lu, followed up with STAB boosted super effective attacking moves. However, as soon as Ting-Lu Terastallizes into a Grass Type, Breloom loses all of these advantages. Even disregarding Terastallization, if Ting-Lu gets Stealth Rock set up, it basically becomes a 2v3 at that point, so Breloom is not recommended as a counter to Ting-Lu.
In the recently concluded Paldea Prologue Online Competition, all 400 Paldea Pokedex Pokemon are legal, including Koraidon and Miraidon. This was the best team for using Ting-Lu in this competition.
Best Teams for Paldea Prologue
Ting-Lu and Arcanine make for an incredibly defensive pair to lead off with, with the pair being able to reduce both offensive stats with their Abilities. Amoonguss is a great switch-in for Ting-Lu, resisting most of its weaknesses. Annihilape benefits from Ting-Lu and Arcanine's offensive debuffs, giving it more durability to take hits and power up Rage Fist.
Garganacl is well suited in defensive teams as it can be difficult to KO thanks to Ting-Lu's Ability.
Amoonguss offers redirection, and Gyarados works as a secondary Intimidate user.
Additionally, Ting-Lu matches up favorably against common Defiant Pokemon like Kingambit and Annihilape, being able to resist their Dark-and Ghost-type attacks, and can Tera Poison to protect itself from Fighting-type Moves.
Lastly, Arcanine and Amoonguss make another appearance as a solid support duo.
This team makes use of the Bulky Support Doubles Build.
