How to Beat Katy

First You Must Pass the Olive Roll Test

Giant Olive Roll Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Before you have the chance to face Katy, you must first pass the Cortondo Gym Test. In this test, you need to roll the giant olive into the basket. This is one of the more interactive challenges in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and is a lot of fun. Once you successfully clear the test you may challenge Katy.

Level Up to Lv. 16

Since you can encounter Cortondo Gym early in the game, you won't face any powerful attacks from Katy's Pokemon. However, for the best odds at defeating Gym Leader Katy, raise your Pokemon to Lv. 16 or higher. Do this especially for Pokemon that are weak against Bug types.

Terastallize at the Start of Battle

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Alternate Fuecoco Form
Players can Terastallize their Pokemon at the very start of Gym Battes. We recommend you take advantage of Flying or Fire Tera Types, as it raises your chances of defeating most Pokemon in one hit using a move the type it is weak against.

Tips and Strategy to Beat Katy's Rematch Team

Watch Out for Forretress' Sturdy

Forretress
Katy's Forretress has the Ability Sturdy. Pokemon with this Ability survive with 1 HP, if they are at full health and hit by an attack which would normally leave them knocked out. As Forretress has a 4x weakness to Fire, most Fire Type attacks dealt to it at full HP will activate its sturdy ability.

Once it survives an attack, it can then strike back with its powerful Rock Type Stone Edge attack, dealing massive damage to Fire Type opponents. As it is most likely that this will leave your Fire Type attacker knocked out, make sure to prepare at least two Fire Type Pokemon for this battle.
