Keen eyed players of the first Generation of Pokemon will know where these sprites originate from. These are the menu sprites used to show which Pokemon they are at a glance at the Switch Out screen.

Unlike modern Pokemon games, the first Generation of games did not have special portraits to denote which species of Pokemon they are due to the size constraints of the Game Boy cartridges.
Due to this, generic sprites that symbolize which kind of Pokemon they are, were used.

Sprites are 2D images that are put on top of a scene or background in a video game. These are usually non-static and move on their own independent of the background.
Sprites are usually used to rerpresent the player, items, or even enemy units.
Talking about tiles, mosaics are an inlaid pattern design using small pieces of tiles to create an image or pattern. Popular materials used in creating mosaics are glass, natural stone, metal, and porcelain.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Spanish influence takes good use of this. This is a reference to Andalusia's capital of Seville, which is renown for the Plaza de España which has a mosaic mural of the history of Spain.
