Optimize your team setup Check the Tera Pokemon's type Know the best time to use Cheers Train your Pokemon
|
When doing online Tera Raid Battles, try to choose a Pokemon that would synergize with the rest of the team. For example: if the other trainers in your team decide to bring Attacker Pokemon, try to choose a Support Pokemon that can provide healing, boost ally stats, or weaken the enemy, then vice versa if you think your team needs more firepower.
Best Pokemon for Tera Raid Battles
Take note that, defensively, the Tera Pokemon will follow its Tera Type instead of its own type, but its moves will remain the same.
This means that if you're up against a Water Tera Type Pikachu, your team should have strong Grass Moves and can resist Electric Moves like Arboliva.
Tera Pokemon | Recommended Pokemon | |
---|---|---|
Pikachu | Deals 0.5x damage to → |
Arboliva |
Tera Type: | Receives 2x damage from → |
Pikachu will most likely have Electric-type Moves, while Arboliva has access to strong Grass-type Moves.
Type Chart: All Matchups and Effectiveness
Aside from type matchups, Abilities can also play a major role in Tera Raid battles. For example, bringing a Ground type Pokemon against an Electric Tera Pokemon may seem like a good idea at first, but if the Pokemon has an ability like Levitate, then Ground-type attacks will be nullified.
Cheer | When to Use | Priority |
---|---|---|
Go all out! | After Terastallizing | ★★★★☆ |
Hang tough! | At the start of the battle | ★★☆☆☆ |
Heal up! | When at least one ally is low on health | ★★★★★ |
Each trainer can only use 3 Cheers per Raid, so you should make each of them count. Know when to use your Cheers and try to make your entire team benefit from them instead of just focusing on your own Pokemon.
We recommend saving all your Cheers for Heal up!, especially if your team can deal decent damage to the Tera Pokemon while also able to withstand several attacks from it.
The best time to use Go all out! is when the Attackers on your team have already Terestallized, which is available after attacking the Tera Pokemon thrice. This is to boost the damage of STAB moves further and to make sure the stat boost won't go to waste if your Pokemon faint after using the Cheer early.
You can also use this or Hang tough! as soon as the battle starts if your team have their own healing Moves. Otherwise, save the available Cheers for Heal up!.
Whenever you enter Raid Battles with at least one AI Teammate, that teammate will automatically use Hang Tough!, and increase the team's defenses for the next few turns. This could be extremely helpful, especially when trying to take on difficult raids alone.
With the release of the Version 2.0.1 Update, you can now view how many turns you have left for your Cheers! Just go to the Check Status Screen and check on your Pokemon to see how many turns you have left.
Version 2.0.1 Patch Notes: Teal Mask Update
Before you throw in yourself in a high level Raid, make sure your Pokemon is fully prepared! Farm EXP to level them up as high as you can, make them hold the right Held Item, equip them with the best moveset, and take them to Hyper Training! This will increase your chances of successfully completing high Tera Raid Star Levels online, or even solo them!
It is certainly possible to one-shot Pokemon found in Tera Raids with higher stars. All you need is an offensive Pokemon and a right set up to easily clear Tera Raids. You can even do this to easily get a Ditto from 6-Star raids!
How to Solo and One-Shot 6-Star Tera Raids
Tera Raid battles are a new cooperative battle format where up to 4 trainers will team up to take on a Terastallized wild Pokemon within a certain time limit.
Terastallized Pokemon are challenging to fight, so make sure to group up with your friends to take on these fierce Pokemon!
Tera Raid Battles are great challenges during the early game, as rewards for winning them consist of TM materials, Rare Candies, and other items that you can sell for a high price, such as Stardust. While they don't reward your active Pokemon experience, they instead drop Exp. Candies to level up your other Pokemon.

You can also make Sandwiches with Raid Power before you join Tera Raid Battles. These will increase the rewards that you will receive after completing a Raid!

Extra Tera Shard Rewards | x5 Tera Shards |

x12 Tera Shards |
While you have the Glimmering Charm in your inventory, you gain extra Tera Shards after beating a Tera Raid.
After catching all 200 Pokemon in the Kitakami Region, talk to Jacq outside the east exit of Mossui Town to get the Glimmering Charm.
How to Get the Glimmering Charm
Tera Raid Battles let players attack seamlessly without waiting for other Trainers' turns, which means players need to cooperate and plan out moves to take on Terestallized Pokemon.
If your Pokemon gets knocked out during Tera Raid Battles, it can be revived after a few seconds! They will also be revived back into full health, so you do not need to worry about sending back a weakened partner. Note that any pokemon that faints will reduce the remaining time left to defeat the Terestallized Pokemon, so make sure to keep your eyes on your Pokemon's HP.
Unlike in Pokemon Sword and Shield's Max Raid Battles, Tera Raid Battles do not have a set amount of turns allotted before all players fail the encounter.
In this new iteration of Raid Battles, trainers only need to defeat Terestallized Pokemon before the clock runs out and need not worry about the number of turns it takes to defeat the target!
Interacting with a Tera Crystal gives you the option to challenge the Terastallized Pokemon as a group or alone, as well as change which Pokemon you'll send out during the battle.
The game also shows the Pokemon's silhouette along with their star rating. This is similar to Pokemon Sword and Shield's Max Raid Battles.
Should you decide to try a Tera Raid Battle by yourself, three AI allies will be added to your team, but their Pokemon will not act unless you do. Make sure to actively participate in these battles and try not to rely too much on ally Pokemon.
Players can cheer during Tera Raid battles to support your team even if your Pokemon hasn't learned any support moves.
There are 3 cheer effects in the game that will boost the Pokemon's stats or provide some healing. Further, these 3 cheer effects can be used up to a total of 3 times by each player per battle.
Tera Raid Battle Cheers | |
---|---|
Cheer | Effect |
Go all out! | Boost Attack and Special Attack |
Hang tough! | Boost Defense and Special Defense |
Heal up! | Recover HP |
Defeating a Terastallized raid Pokemon within the time limit undoes its transformation and allows you to catch it with a Pokeball! This also rewards you with in-game items that you can use in your adventure.
Especially at higher ranked raids, the battles can become pretty unforgiving if you are not prepared! For these types of battles, it's recommended to use Pokemon specifically trained for raids.
Best Pokemon for Tera Raids
Pokemon that appear in Tera Raid Battles may have a Tera Type that's different from their usual type. Seek out Tera Crystals throughout Paldea to get a chance to encounter these unique Pokemon!
All Terastal Forms and Tera Types
You don't have to worry whether you can catch a Pokemon from a Tera Raid Battle because they're always guaranteed to be caught! Use any Poke Ball you see fit as any Poke Ball can be used to capture a Tera Raid Pokemon. Be sure to stock up on Poke Balls before participating in a Tera Raid.
Even if you lose a Tera Raid Battle, you can retry these challenges as much as you like. Use Tera Raid Battles to level up quickly, or practice battling with recently caught Pokemon.
Through Raid Battles, instead of the battling Pokemon getting Experience, you can instead earn Exp. Candies and Rare Candies. These Candies can be used on other Pokemon you have to catch them up with the rest of your team.
Though the Tera Raid is a 'turnless battle', there are still technically 'turns' when you and the Tera Pokemon use moves against one another.
Just like in normal Pokemon battles, who gets to use their move first is determined by two things: the move's Priority, and the Pokemon's Speed stat.
If a Pokemon has high Speed and its move has higher priority, then it will most likely be the first to make its move in the raid's move order. Slow Pokemon with low priority moves will most likely use their moves last.
List of Priority Moves
Star Rating | HP Modifier | Level During Battle |
---|---|---|
★ | x5 | 12 |
★★ | x5 | 20 |
★★★ | x8 | 35 |
★★★★ | x12 | 45 |
★★★★★ | x20 | 75 |
★★★★★★ | x25 | 75 |
★★★★★★★ | x35/x50/x25 | 100 |
To make Tera Raid Battles more challenging, the Raid Pokemon has its Level and HP altered depending on its star level. 7 Star Raids are by far the most difficult, since you will be up against a Level 100 Pokemon with its HP multiplied by a large number.
7-Star Raids have different HP multipliers over the events, with the Unrivaled Charizard having a multiplier of 25, the Unrivaled Pikachu with a x50 HP Multiplier, while the rest of the featured Pokemon had a x35 HP Multiplier.
Aside from the HP multiplier, 6-Star Raid Pokemon have also been known to have 128 EVs in Def and Sp. Def during combat. These EVs do not persist after catching the Pokemon, meaning you still need to EV train the Raid Pokemon after catching it.
To terastallize your Pokemon, it will have to attack the raid boss three times. This means your Pokemon must also survive the raid boss' counterattacks long enough for your Tera Orb to charge, so heal your Pokemon accordingly.
Introduced in the Indigo Disk DLC, Stellar Terastallization is the 19th Tera Type where Tera Blast will always be Super Effective on Tera Raid Bosses.
You can also make use of having a Tera Boost to all of your attacking moves thanks to this Tera Type! Make sure to use it on Pokemon with a wide coverage of moves.
Best Pokemon to Terastallize Stellar for Tera Raids
During a battle, the Tera Raid Pokemon you battle against will do several things to disrupt the flow of the battle when its HP reaches approximately 50% or the timer reaches halfway. It will remove negative status effects from itself, nullify the abilities of your Pokemon, and use a Tera Shield.
Tera Pokemon can nullify the abilities of your Pokemon. However, this nullification only lasts 1 turn between you and the Tera Pokemon, so your Pokemon's abilities will kick in again afterward.
A Tera Shield protects the Tera Pokemon from status moves and also absorbs a lot of damage from Pokemon that haven't terastallized yet.
Attacker | Damage dealt vs. Pokemon with Tera Shield |
---|---|
Non Terastallized Pokemon | 20% of usual damage |
Terastallized Pokemon, but uses move of different type | 35% of usual damage |
Terastallized Pokemon, and uses move of same type | 75% of usual damage |
Out of the three, it's terastallized Pokemon that use moves of the same type (a.k.a. STAB Moves) that deal the most damage against Tera Raid bosses with Tera Shields.
This means if you want to break a Tera Shield as soon as possible, terastallize your Pokemon and use STAB moves. It would be better if the moves are of a type the Tera Pokemon is weak against.
So far, the following moves have been confirmed to always fail against Tera Raid Bosses:
Moves That Always Fail Against Tera Raid Bosses | |||
---|---|---|---|
Sheer Cold | Fissure | Guillotine | Guard Split |
Disable | Encore | Imprison | Torment |
Meanwhile, the following moves will fail when using them against a Tera Pokemon that has its Tera Shield up. Destroy its Tera Shield so you can use these kinds of moves again.

---|---|---|---|
Screech and other stat-reducing moves. |
Hypnosis and other major status-inflicting moves |
Confuse Ray and other minor status-inflicting moves |

From time to time, the game will announce that special Tera Raids will be available where certain Pokemon have a higher chance of spawning. These Raids are considered special as they only run from a set period of time soo be sure to grab them while available!
Tera Raid Events and Schedule
While an event Pokemon's Tera Crystal may, at a glance look no different than normal ones, it will have a distinct color and aura surrounding it. Use these clues when searching for this particular Tera Raid Battle.
During special occasions, 7-Star Raid battles will become available for a limited time. These battles are no pushover as the Pokemon contained within these raids are Lv. 100 and are fully built! They are also always guaranteed to have specific stat distributions and natures.
Should you be able to defeat one of these raids, you are rewarded not only a super strong Pokemon, but also rare items such as an Ability Patch.
Due to the unique stats and Tera typing of this Charizard, you can only capture 1 per save file. However, you can participate in the Tera Raid event while it is available, and receive the rewards as many times as you want.
These Raid Battles are accessed by interacting with Black Tera Crystals, something that you cannot access until clearing the game. However, if you are invited to participate by a friend, you can take part in the raid battle without clearing the story.
Seek out Tera Crystals in the overworld, marked by a "star-shaped" icon. |
Interacting with the Tera Crystal will allow you to start a Tera Raid Battle. |
Undiscovered Pokemon will only have their silhouette displayed. |
Participate in Tera Raid Battles by interacting with shining crystals scattered around the world. These crystals look like gemstones and emit a pillar of light into the sky making them easier to see!
Note that the Tera Type of the shining crystals will determine what kind of Tera Pokemon you'll encounter in the raid. For example, touching a Grass Tera Type crystal lets you battle Grass-type Terastallized Pokemon.

Even if you do not want to participate in a Tera Raid Battle, you can still receive LP by simply interacting with a Tera Crystal. Make sure to do this with every Tera Crystal you come across to earn a lot of LP easily.
How to Farm League Points (LP)
As you proceed throughout the overworld, you will come across Black Tera Crystals that will let you fight incredibly strong foes to earn rare and valuable items. If you are looking for a great challenge that also provides valuable rewards, take the extra time to search for these Tera Crystals.
Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles
You can group up with other trainers in Tera Raid Battles by setting a Link Code. Share your Link Code with other players so you can take on Terastallized Pokemon!
Alternatively, you can seek out other trainers looking for teammates using the in-game Tera Raid Battle Option.
The position, as well as which Tera Raid Battles you can try changes along with the date. Since this is linked to the Switch's internal clock, you can choose to manually adjust the time to retry as many times as you want.
