Feebas Outbreak Shiny Hunting Guide

Hunting for Shiny Pokemon during a Mass Outbreak is one of the most reliable ways of catching a Shiny. In order to successfully hunt for a shiny Feebas, follow the following steps:

1. Have a Feebas Outbreak on Your Map
2. Increase Shiny Odds by Clearing 60 Spawns
3. Reroll the Spawns Until a Shiny Appears

Have a Feebas Outbreak on Your Map

The first step is to make sure you have a Feebas Outbreak on your map. If you have never encountered a Feebas before, then any Feebas Outbreaks will appear as a question mark on your map. Make sure to have battled or caught a Feebas before you start shiny hunting for one.

Reroll Outbreaks by Adjusting System Time

While you could just naturally wait for a Feebas to appear on your map by checking daily, you can also force the game to reroll your outbreaks by adjusting your Switch's system time.

Without closing out of the game, access your Switch's Settings and turn off the setting that automatically adjusts your system date and time. Tweak the time and roll it back by a minute, then re-enter your game. Checking your map should reveal that the Mass Outbreaks for the map have changed.

Increase Feebas Outbreak Odds by Eating an Encounter Power Sandwich

Eating an Encounter Power: Water Lv. 2 sandwich will increase the odds of a Feebas Outbreak spawning. If you have a lot of Herba Mystica to spare, you can use the Sparkling Power: Water Lv.3 sandwich recipes to also get Encounter Power: Water Lv.3.

Increase Shiny Odds by Clearing 60 Spawns

As you defeat or catch more of the same Pokemon in a Mass Outbreak, the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon among them increase. Defeating them via Let's Go also counts.

From the base odds of a shiny in every 4096 Pokemon, defeating at least 30 from the outbreak improves the odds by half (1 in 2048). By defeating at least 60 you improve the odds further to be 1 in 1365.

Make use of items like the Shiny Charm or a Sparkling Power Sandwich to further increase your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon. Using both items is the best method, as it improves your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon further from 1/1365 to 1/512.

Reroll the Spawns Until a Shiny Appears

Once you've defeated or caught at least 60 of the target spawns, we recommend to stop clearing them, since clearing a large excess beyond the initial 60 might cause the outbreak to end.

Instead focus on rerolling the spawns. You can do this by running around the area as Pokemon further from you despawn, and you spawn more near you. Unfortunately, it is difficult to set up a picnic inside the caves where Feebas spawns, so it is not recommended to use this method to reset spawns.

Feebas also likes to hide deep underwater, so make sure to use the ZL lock-on feature to check for any shiny Feebas out of sight.

Shiny Feebas Catching Tips

Hopefully, after following the steps above, you've spotted Shiny Feebas. Great! Here are a few tips before you start the encounter.

1. Save Before the Encounter
2. Start the Encounter with a Back-Strike
3. Lower its HP
4. Consider a Matching Poke Ball

Save Before The Encounter

Before anything else, save your game! You're probably really excited to grab the Shiny Feebas right away, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Doing a manual save is a good safety precaution for anything that might go wrong. It'll save you from any potential agony from the encounter despawning, game crashes, running out of Poke Balls, or accidental KOs.

Start the Encounter with a Back-Strike

Instead of running up to Shiny Feebas to start the encounter, consider sneaking up behind it, then throw your Poke Ball with ZR to catch it by surprise. Starting the Encounter with this back-strike gives you initiatve in the form of a free turn where Shiny Feebas will be too stunned to react.

We recommend having a strong Persian or Breloom with False Swipe as a way to safely bring the target to Red HP.

Shiny Feebas has a pretty high catch rate so you shouldn't have any trouble, but just in-case, you can also inflict a non-damaging status condition such as Sleep or Paralysis to increase the catch rate further.

Best Ball to Catch Shiny Feebas In

While you could catch Shiny Feebas in any Poke Ball you prefer, there's a pretty fun tradition of selecting a Poke Ball that thematically matches the Shiny Pokemon you'll catch.

We think the Heal Ball or the Premier Ball are both clean options to complement Shiny Milotic's sleek and soft look. The Lure Ball may also be an interesting choice as it evokes the colors of a regular Milotic.
