Bring Pokemon that Check Your Opponent's Team

Depending on you opponent's team, select Pokemon that have a wide range of offensive coverage in order to threaten all the possible combinations of Pokemon they could bring.

Do not risk a bad matchup for the Pokemon that is currently on the field. When playing a hyper-offense team, the best way to take opponents on is to pivot into a Pokemon with a favorable match-up against your opponent and overwhelm them by picking off their team one by one with your team and try to preserve the Pokemon that gives you the clearest path to victory.

Speed is Key

Sample Offensive Core
Ogerpon ImageOgerpon
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Grass Icon
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ghost Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fairy Icon
Chien-Pao ImageChien-Pao
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dark Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ice Icon

This team focuses on outspeeding your opponents with glass cannons that can pick off your opponent's offensive members leaving them with no option other than their supportive and defensive Pokemon.

Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao are great choices for this as their movepools and strengths can easily take down aggressive Dragon-types to let Ogerpon take care of the rest thanks to it getting a boost to its Speed thanks to Embody Aspect.

Debilitate Offensive Teams with Bulk

Sample Bulky Core
Landorus (Therian Forme) ImageLandorus (Therian Forme)

Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style ImageUrshifu Rapid-Strike Style
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fighting Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Water Icon
Dragonite ImageDragonite
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dragon Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon

Most people would expect you to lead with faster and more offensive sets when looking at Team Sheets. Surprise them by taking advantage of Pokemon that can tank hits like Dragonite and Urshifu or debilitate their attackers with Landorus so your attackers can then switch in safely.

For example, against Hearthflame Mask Ogerpons, Poison Tera Urshifu would resist its Grass move and you can threaten a knock out with Surging Strikes in return.

Recommended Lead Pokemon

Heatran ImageHeatran
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fire Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Steel Icon
Landorus (Therian Forme) ImageLandorus (Therian Forme)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ground Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon

Heatran has one of the best move coverage options in this team, which makes it a solid lead option. It can deal super-effective damage to a lot of commonly used Pokemon, and its bulk allows it to stay on the field unless threatened by strong super-effective attacks.

Landorus is a good lead against teams with a lot of Physical Attackers because of its Intimidate Ability. If the match-up isn't in your favor, you can also easily switch out by using U-turn.

Possible Defensive Switches

Defensive Recommendations
Dragonite ImageDragonite
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dragon Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon
Ogerpon (Wellspring Mask) ImageOgerpon (Wellspring Mask)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Grass Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Water Icon

Dragonite can take most Attacks because of its impressive bulk and Multiscale Ability. It can then hit back hard with +2 priority Extreme Speed or it can heal up the damage with Roost.

Wellspring Mask Ogerpon can be switched in to take Rapid-Strike Urshifu's Surging Strikes. It won't take any damage because of its Water Absorb ability.

Have Offensive Pokemon Clean Up in the Late Game

Late Game Recommendations
Chien-Pao ImageChien-Pao
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dark Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ice Icon
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ghost Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fairy Icon

Chien-Pao and Flutter Mane are both strong, offensive Pokemon that can easily win matches if your opponent isn't positioned properly. If your opponent loses their counters to these powerhouses, Chien-Pao and Flutter Mane can clean up your opponent's remaining Pokemon.

Bring Pokemon that Check Your Opponent's Team

Sample Offensive Core

Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style ImageUrshifu Rapid-Strike Style
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fighting Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Water Icon
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ghost Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fairy Icon

Depending on you opponent's team, select Pokemon that have a wide range of offensive coverage in order to threaten all the possible combinations of Pokemon they could bring.

Do not risk a bad matchup for the Pokemon that is currently on the field. When playing a hyper-offense team, one of your opponent's clearest win conditions is to knock out the Pokemon that threatens them the most. Assess which Pokemon they could have brought and try to preserve the Pokemon that gives you the clearest path to victory.

Always Have an Answer to Stall

Sample Team
Dragonite ImageDragonite

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fighting Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Water Icon
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) ImageOgerpon (Hearthflame Mask)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Grass Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fire Icon

If you do not bring an answer to stall teams, it may be difficult for your offensive Pokemon to get knock outs. Bringing Pokemon like Dragonite and Gholdengo to threaten your opponent with moves like Encore or Trick is essential to stop them from stalling out your team.

It is also a good idea to bring Urshifu, since its ability Unseen Fist ignores stalling moves like Protect. Heartflame Mask Ogerpon is also a good choice since it will be more difficult to wall after it Terastallizes and gets a boost to its Attack thanks to Embody Aspect.

Surprise Other Offense Teams With Your Bulk

Sample Bulky Core

A lot of people would expect faster and more offensive sets for these Pokemon. Surprise them by taking advantage of their bulkier sets to counter Pokemon that would normally check them.

For example, against opposing Hearthflame Mask Ogerpons, Poison Tera Urshifu would resist its Grass move and you can threaten a knock out with Surging Strikes in return.

Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon Singles Rental Team

Rental Code SJB728

Best Cornerstone Ogerpon (Rock) and Okidogi Singles Rental Team for VGC & Competitive

Consistent Team Core for Most Battles

Recommended Team Core
Okidogi ImageOkidogi
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Poison Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fighting Icon
Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) ImageOgerpon (Cornerstone Mask)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Grass Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Rock Icon

The two new Pokemon from the Teal Mask DLC are the highlights of this team and perform consistently well against other teams. You may be inclined to bring both of them to most games.

Both are bulky Pokemon that can also deal significant damage. They have a wide array of coverage moves between the two of them that can cover most match-ups. They also synergize well defensively, with them having no common weakness.

Bring Additional Type Coverage

Recommended for Type Coverage
Heatran ImageHeatran
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fire Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Steel Icon
Wash Rotom ImageWash Rotom
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Electric Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Water Icon

In addition to Okidogi and Ogerpon, you may want to bring one of these Pokemon to round out your team of three.

Heatran provides additional Fire and Steel-type moves and an immunity to opposing Fire-type moves. Rotom Wash provides valuable Water and Electric-type move coverage and an immunity to Ground-type moves.

Choose whichever Pokemon has a better type match-up against your opponent's team.

Bring Strong Priority Moves for Fast Opponents

Strong Pokemon with Priority
Dragonite ImageDragonite
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dragon Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon
Scizor ImageScizor
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Bug Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Steel Icon

If you're having a difficult time choosing the right Pokemon for a type advantage or are worried about incredibly fast Pokemon from your opponent, Dragonite and Scizor may be more ideal picks.

Dragonite is very bulky and can switch into most attacks. With Extreme Speed, it can also deal a lot of damage while moving first, especially when it is Terastallized.

Scizor is good to use against fast Flutter Mane because of its priority Bullet Punch. It can also set up a Swords Dance to further boost the power of its Physical Attacks, strenghtening its priority move.

Snow Mode

Snow Core
Alolan Ninetales ImageAlolan Ninetales
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ice Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fairy Icon
Baxcalibur ImageBaxcalibur
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Dragon Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ice Icon

For most battles, you will want to lead with Alolan Ninetales to set up the Snow and an Aurora Veil. This should allow your team to comfortably take hits.

Baxcalibur is the ideal Pokemon to bring with Ninetales in order to take advantage of the Defense boost Ice Types receive in Snow.

The third Pokemon you bring will depend on your opponent's team. Although, if you're having a hard time choosing the last Pokemon, Urshifu and Ogerpon are both good picks to round out this team of three.

Fast Hyper Offense

Hyper Offense Core
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane

Landorus (Therian Forme) ImageLandorus (Therian Forme)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ground Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) ImageOgerpon (Hearthflame Mask)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Grass Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fire Icon

If it doesn't look like you'll be able to set up an Aurora Veil or take advantage of Snow in any way, then you can bring your hyper offensive Pokemon to deal with your opponent.

Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon can do a lot of damage even to Pokemon that resist its attacks. Landorus is a good counter to opposing Pokemon and can help with the team's defenses by reducing the Attack stat of the opponent. Flutter Mane can deal a lot of Special damage to the opponent and switch into most Special Attacks.

Watch Out for Opposing Weather

Ability:
Drought
Pelipper ImagePelipper
Ability:
Drizzle
Tyranitar ImageTyranitar
Ability:

If your opponent has one of these weather setters in their team, it may not be such a good idea to lead with Alolan Ninetales. The opponent can easily remove your Snow, which will prevent you from setting up an Aurora Veil.

However, if these weather conditions seem to be a big part of your opponent's strategy, you can bring Alolan Ninetales in the back to disrupt their weather and give you the upper hand.

Fast Hyper Offense in Tailwind

Tornadus (Incarnate Forme) ImageTornadus (Incarnate Forme)
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Flying Icon
Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ghost Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fairy Icon

This team has both a fast and a slow mode. Whichever mode you'll want to lean more on will depend on the Pokemon in your opponent's team.

If you notice that your opponent has Pokemon in a similar speed tier to yours, but they have no Tailwind setter, it's better to use this fast mode. Set up a Tailwind with Tornadus and use Ogerpon and Flutter Mane to sweep.

Do note that the Tornadus in this team is a bit slower in exchange for more bulk, so you will likely move second when facing an opposing Tornadus.

Armarouge ImageArmarouge
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Fire Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Psychic Icon
Torkoal ImageTorkoal

The slow Trick Room mode is the strategy you'll want to go for if your opponent has no good way of denying Trick Room. Torkoal with Choice Specs-boosted Eruptions in sun should be able to deal massive amounts of damage to any Pokemon that isn't immune to it.

Indeedee and Armarouge Lead

Flutter Mane ImageFlutter Mane

Indeedee and Armarouge is a good duo to lead with if you plan on setting up Trick Room. Indeedee's Psychic Surge prevents priority moves like Fake Out. You can then use Follow Me with Indeedee to let Armarouge set up Trick Room safely.

This lead is weak to Chien-Pao's Lash Out. Be wary of other strong Dark-type Pokemon that can easily knock out Indeedee.

Once the Trick Room turns expire, Ogerpon and Flutter Mane can clean up the rest of your opponent's team.

If your opponent has good counters to your Trick Room mode, lead with Tornadus and Ogerpon. Ogerpon and Flutter Mane thrive in Tailwind, and Indeedee is a good Pokemon to pivot in and provide support.

Against teams with no redirection, Maus Ape is a strong duo to lead with. Use Beat Up on Annihilape with Maushold, and have both Pokemon sweep through unprepared teams. Against teams with Fake Out, using your Tera on Maushold may prove crucial to winning the match.

Ogerpon and Gyarados can round out the back end of the team, picking off your opponent's remaining Pokemon while having the option of Intimidate with Gyarados.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna ImageBloodmoon Ursaluna
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Ground Icon Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Normal Icon

Illumise is an effective lead, especially with a strong offensive Pokemon like Ogerpon and Gyarados.

Ogerpon and Gyarados fulfill the requirements for a Grass-Fire-Water Core, but using only two Pokemon instead of three. Having either of them at the back of this team composition can often allow you to have a backup offensive threat for later in the match.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna can also work as a win condition if the opponent has run out of ways to hit it for super-effective damage in the late game.

Illumise can support fast Bloodmoon Ursaluna with Tailwind, and can also be an effective nuisance for your opponent with its Encore and Pounce options. As with the previous team compositions seen above, Gyarados and Ogerpon are strong Pokemon to have for cleaning up in the later stages of a match.
