A Corrupted Data Bug where your save data is being read as corrupted was discovered by players after experiencing sudden game crashes in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Read on to learn more about the bug, what causes it, and how to fix it.
List of Contents
Players have reported that the prompt Corrupted Data was found appeared for them shortly after the game crashed suddenly.
Unlike the Save File Not Recognized bug, the corrupted data bug is relatively simple, and there are a few ways to return your game to normal.
Save File Not Recognized Bug: Causes and How to Fix
The common cause reported by Players was that the bug happened when the game crashed for them.
It may be partly due to the game trying to process multiple elements at once, such as moving to fast between areas and cities, and the game tries to load multiple instances of wild Pokemon and NPC's.
As some players suggest, playing for extended periods of time causes Memory Leak. Memory Leaks happen when the game can not release built up memory that it no longer uses, which causes the game to be buggy, and not load elements correctly.
As such, when a Memory leak happens, the chances of the game crashing increases greatly.
The fix based on Nintendo's support suggests checking for corrupt data to fix the bug.

Version 1.2.0 Patch Update: Patch Notes
As suggested by Reddit user u/TragGaming, creating an alternate account or logging in from a different Nintendo Switch account may potentially fix the Corrupted Data bug.
Potential Fix for Corrupted Data Bug Steps | |
---|---|
Step 1 | Create a New Account on your Nintendo Switch, or Log in a different Nintendo Switch account. |
Step 2 | Open Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and create a new save file using the alternate account. |
Step 3 | Progress the game until you reach a point where you can save. |
Step 4 | After saving, close the game, and open the game using your Main Account. You should be able to play normally again. |
Due to the bug being hard to replicate, the Game8 Walkthrough Team were unable to verify it themselves. As such, we recommend using the Official Fix first before trying this method.
