Freeze-Dry
・ Tera Blast ・ Yawn ・ Protect |
This build gives Glaceon a unique dual STAB of Fire and Ice by terastallizing into a Fire-type, with Tera Blast providing a reliable Fire-type STAB. Freeze-Dry is its main Ice STAB and allows it to beat Water-types.
Its last two move gives Glaceon some utility as phazer, with Yawn and Protect ensuring defensive Pokemon and setup sweepers risk falling asleep when they stay in the field with Glaceon.
Ice Beam | A stronger alternative to Freeze-Dry but leaves Glaceon completely walled by Water-types. |
---|---|
Chilling Water | An alternative to Yawn that, while weak, rounds off its coverage and lowers the opposing Pokemon's Attack by one stage. |
Glaceon has respectable physical bulk and great Special Attack, making it a surprising offensive pivot only held back by its poor defensive typing. This is easily remedied by Terastallizing it into another type.
Apart from Fire, Glaceon can also Terastallize into a Steel-type to give it better rounded resistances and more opportunities to switch in.
Glaceon has some niche in more balanced team compositions. While it has great physical bulk and Special Attack, it's middling speed and common weaknesses mean it needs support from its team to safely switch in.
Lead Support | Special Attacker | Phsyical Attacker |
---|---|---|
Iron Treads | Glaceon | Ceruledge |
Iron Treads serves as this team's lead support, providing invaluable Stealth Rock support while also capable of removing entry hazards with Rapid Spin.
Glaceon fills the role of a bulky special attacker, coming in once entry hazards are removed from the field and can also phaze with Yawn.
Ceruledge rounds off this team by providing strong Fire-type STAB and also absorbing Fire-type moves directed at Glaceon with Flash Fire.
Glaceon struggles against Rock-type Pokemon as its weak to the type whether it's an Ice-type or has terastallized into a Fire-type. Bulky Rock-types can also set up Stealth Rock, making it more difficult for Glaceon to switch into the field.
Pokemon | Description |
---|---|
Tyranitar | Ranking: ★★★★★
・Sand Stream Ability boosts its Special Defense by 50%. ・Can deal significant damage with STAB Stone Edge and set up Stealth Rock. |
Coalossal | Ranking: ★★★★
・Can set up Stealth Rock or threaten with STAB Stone Edge. ・Receives a +6 Speed increase when hit by Fire Tera Blast thanks to its Steam Engine Ability. |
Glimmora | Ranking: ★★★★
・Faster and has high Special Attack to target Glaceon's lower Special Defense with STAB Power Gem. ・Can set up Stealth Rock or stall with Toxic. |
Glaceon learns Yawn as an egg move, so in order to get Yawn on Glaceon, first you need a Pokemon that knows the move. You will then need to make sure Glaceon has an empty move slot and give it a Mirror Herb.
Finally, set up a picnic with both Glaceon and the Pokemon that knows the egg move in your party and the move will be transferred to Glaceon (the other Pokemon still retains its moveset). Unlike previous generations, egg moves can now be transferred regardless of egg group, species or gender.
