Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Auto Battles
Auto Battles are the newest addition to the 'Let's Go' feature in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet (SV). Learn everything you need to know about how to walk with your pokemon, how to use Auto Battle, and how to evolve Pokemon through Auto Battle.

How to Use Auto Battle

How to Walk With Pokemon

Send Out Pokemon Using the R Button

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Send Out Pawmi
Press the R button to send your lead Pokemon out to the field to walk with you, battle wild Pokemon, or fetch items.

When a Pokemon isn't sent out, Both R and ZR can send out the Pokemon. R commands them to rush straight forward, ZR simply calls them to appear.

When a Pokemon is already out. R allows you to rush forward in a new direction (the direction you are facing), ZR recalls them.

WIth the new Let's Go! feature, your Pokemon can walk with you and independently pick up items in an area. They can even find Pokemon to engage in Auto Battles all on its own!

Auto-Battles Also Damage Your Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Quaxly Damaged in Auto Battle

Your Pokemon can get damaged every time they engage in an Auto Battle with a wild Pokemon. Keep an eye on their icon and HP that can be seen at the lower left corner of your screen to make sure your Pokemon doesn't faint while it's out and about!

Recall Pokemon With the ZR Button

If your Pokemon is in a pinch, recall it using the ZR button to give it a break. You can send it out once again when it's all healed up.

New Features and Everything We Know

When To Use Auto Battle

Passively Level Up Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Trainer finding Antidote

The Let's Go! feature lets your Pokemon earn EXP passively while it's out and about in the wild. This is perfect if you're training your Pokemon for an upcoming gym battle, a Starfall Boss fight, or a Titan Pokemon battle!

Pokemon Don't Evolve when Leveling Up via Auto Battle

Pokemon will not evolve even if they reach the level required to evolve by leveling up when they level up via auto battle. Instead, you can stop Auto Battle right before it's about to level up, then level up with a regular battle or by using EXP candy.

Farming Items

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV Litleo Tuft

Aside from earning EXP, you can also use the Let's Go! feature to farm items you need for TM crafting!

TM Machines and How to Use Them

Pick Up Items

Aside from battling, pressing the R button when facing an item on the ground will allow your Pokemon to move towards and pick up the item.

Use Fast Pokemon to Pick Up Items Efficiently

Pokemon that run faster in the overworld, like Varoom can pick up items faster than other Pokemon. Have them as your lead Pokemon while exploring to help you in picking up items scattered across Paldea!

Pokemon Which Evolve from Auto Battle

Pokemon Step Requirement Evolution
Pawmo ImagePawmo 1,000 Pawmot ImagePawmot
Bramblin ImageBramblin 1,000 Brambleghast ImageBrambleghast
Rellor ImageRellor 1,000 Rabsca ImageRabsca

These Pokemon only evolve by walking enough steps with them in Let's Go! Mode then leveling them up.

Can You Check How Many Steps You Have?

Currently, there is no known way to track your steps in-game.

Right now, the simplest way is to simply walk around for a long time, try leveling up to evolve, then walking around some more if it didn't work yet.

Auto Farm For Steps to Evolve Faster

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Let

Players can farm for steps even when not using their consoles by leaving the Switch and positioning it in such a way that the two analog sticks are pulled towards each other. You can do so by tying a rubber band or hair tie on both the analog sticks. This enables the character to walk in circles and garner 1000 steps in about 10 minutes or less.

We recommend doing this while the Let's Go feature is activated in a place where wild Pokemon can't spawn to avoid the interruption of battles, such as outside your house or within a town.

Your Character Should Run With the Pokemon

A popular clip on Twitter showed a player letting their Pokemon run alone on the ground while they stay atop a Pokemon Center. It claims that this is an effective way to get 1000 steps on Let's Go! and evolve your Pokemon but our findings are inconclusive.

We found it inefficient because the Pokemon constantly stops running so we still needed to walk to get the Pokemon to start running again. After doing this for about 10 minutes, it still didn't evolve the Pokemon despite giving it a rare candy.

However, with the rubber band method mentioned above, it evolved the Pokemon after letting it run with the character for about 10 minutes.

Can You Catch Wild Pokemon in Auto Battles?

No, You Can't Catch Wild Pokemon in Auto Battles

To catch wild Pokemon, recall your Pokemon with the ZR button before you're about to defeat the pokemon you want. Then, start a regular battle with it to catch it.

Pokemon in Auto Battle Refuse to Fight Shiny Pokemon

Pokemon in Auto Battle will not faint any Shiny Pokemon they encounter. Rather, they will refuse to fight it instead.
