Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Friend Guard Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Eviolite ImageEviolite

Clefairy's Friend Guard reduces the damage its allies receive, giving them even more staying power. This Ability allows Clefairy to support its teammate simply by being on the field.

Eviolite dramatically increases Clefairy's bulk, but makes it susceptible to Taunt and Spore, as it cannot hold a Mental Herb or Safety Goggles.

Moves Breakdown

Heal Pulse Helping Hand
Follow Me Protect

Heal Pulse can help a teammate replenish HP. This is valuable for allies with good bulk, helping them stay in a match for longer.

Helping Hand is a good choice for increasing an ally's damage output.

Follow Me can redirect attacks away from Clefairy's partner.

Protect is a good option to have for when Clefairy is in danger of getting double targeted and knocked out.

Water is the best Tera Type for this build because of the prevalence of Rapid-Strike Urshifu and Heavy Slam Iron Hands.

This can be swapped for Tera Grass if the team needs a resistance to Rillaboom's Grassy Glide, or whatever type resists its partner's weakness. This lets Clefairy become a strong choice for Terastallization.

Best Water Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 is put into Clefairy's HP, while 132 EVs are put into its Defense so that it can better take Iron Hands' Heavy Slam. 124 is put into Clefairy's Special Defense to round out its bulk.

A Special Defense boosting Nature is chosen for this build, as it will frequently be redirecting Special Attacks away from its partner.

Other Viable Moves

Dazzling Gleam Dazzling Gleam gives Clefairy a damaging move, making it so it is not locked out completely when it is Taunted.
Encore Useful for locking opponents into moves, forcing them into disadvantageous situations.

Clefairy ImageClefairy
Fairy Type
Clefable ImageClefable
Fairy Type
✅ Has Friend Guard.

✅ As bulky as Clefable.

❌ Locked into Eviolite

❌ Worse offensive Stats
❌ No Friend Guard

✅ No Life Orb Damage

✅ Better offensive capabilities

✅ Can hold a different item.

Overall, Clefairy works better as a support, mainly thanks to Eviolite and Friend Guard.

Clefable can still be a viable support Pokemon because it still has all the support moves that Clefairy has, but can offer more damage in exchange for Friend Guard's defensive properties.

It can also make use of Life Orb without taking recoil damage thanks to its Magic Guard Ability.

How to Use Clefairy Effectively

Use Clefairy's Support Options

Clefairy has access to useful support moves like Helping Hand and Heal Pulse. These options will always help its partner stay in the game and be even more effective.

Redirect Attacks with Follow Me

Clefairy, a Pokemon that can hold Eviolite, is an effective user of Follow Me. Use this to support its team, and redirect attacks to Clefairy who can tank them.

How to Build a Team with Clefairy

Bulky teammates or teammates that can set up to sweep are good teammates for Clefairy. It can assist them with its useful support options, allowing them to be effective for much longer than they would be otherwise.

Sample Doubles Team

Special Attacker Support
Kommo-o ImageKommo-o Clefairy ImageClefairy
Physical Attacker Support / Special Attacker
Landorus (Therian Forme) ImageLandorus (Therian Forme) Sinistcha ImageSinistcha

Friend Guard Clefairy is an excellent partner for Kommo-o, as it can improve its bulk with Friend Guard and redirect attacks away from it. Additionally, Sinistcha can come in and help Kommo-o recover HP with its Ability Hospitality.

Landorus-T with Choice Scarf can help the team deal with threats with a fast Tera Blast, or fishing for Rock Slide flinches. It can also deal good damage with Stomping Tantrum or pivot out with U-Turn.

Counters for Clefairy

Use Taunt Against Clefairy

Clefairy will frequently not run an attacking move, focusing solely on support. A well-placed Taunt will shut it down completely.
