Find your Target Pokemon Underwater by pointing your camera down using the Right Stick. Keep your eyes peeled as some Pokemon blend in perfectly with the ocean floor. |
|
Slowly approach the Pokemon you want while holding the ZL button. Be careful as some Pokemon nearby might attack you and scare off your target! |
|
While holding the ZL button, you will notice the Name of the Pokemon or the Name "???" pop-up above the target. That means you have locked on into your target Pokemon. | |
Once locked on, press the ZR button to throw your Pokemon on the first slot of your party to initiate a battle. Have a Pokemon with False Swipe and a sleep-inducing move like Hypnosis on the first slot to make the Target easier to catch. |
|
You can now catch the target Pokemon by throwing a Pokeball or try to weaken it first to make catching it easier. For a better chance of catching the target try to use a Net Ball, Dive Ball, or Lure Ball for better chances! |
Some Pokemon like to dive underwater making it difficult to lock onto and catch them. Focus on these Pokemon with the ZL locking feature. Additionally, If you jump into the water from a high altitude, you will dive a small way into the water, potentially colliding with a partially submerged Pokemon.
Some Aquatic Pokemon are harder to find than others. For example Dratini, Skrelp, and Finneon like to dive deep into the depths of the ocean floor making them difficult to see if you're just riding around in the water.
Some of these Pokemon will approach you like Qwilfish. But some rarer Pokemon might run away deeper into the ocean floor, such as Dratini and Dragalge.
Paldea Pokedex: List of All Pokemon
Early on in game, you will only be able to catch Pokemon in the water that are close to the shore. You then lock on to the Pokemon with the ZL button and throw a Pokemon from its Pokeball with the ZR button.
Hitting the Pokemon accurately triggers a battle where you can catch them.
Aquatic Mode |
---|
This function allows you to travel freely over water. While surfing you can also jump with the B Button. |
If you want to catch Pokemon that are far from the shore, you will need to unlock the Aquatic Mode. You can get it by defeating the Titan Bombirdier.
Koraidon/Miraidon will unlock the Aquatic Mode. This ability allows you to cross bodies of water, which means you can now access places you couldn't reach before!
Get close to the Pokemon you want to catch and focus on them by using the ZL button. Throw your Pokeball by pressing the ZR button and engage in a battle with them.
You can also use the Net Ball to catch Water-type Pokemon.
