Ability | Held Item | |

Protosynthesis | Booster Energy |
Protosynthesis is Roaring Moon's only ability, and with the given EV spread, this Ability will increase its Speed by 50%.
Booster Energy is the required held item to ensure Roaring Moon gets a Speed boost from Protosynthesis and boosts the damage of Acrobatics after it's used up.
Dragon Dance | Acrobatics |
Knock Off | Earthquake |
Dragon Dance boosts Roaring Moon's Attack and Speed by one stage, increasing its offensive pressure.
Acrobatics becomes a 110 Base Power move once it consumes its Booster Energy. Its damage is further increased when Roaring Moon Terastallizes into Flying.
Knock Off is its STAB Dark-type attack that also removes the opposing Pokemon's held item.
Earthquake is its last move and offers great neutral coverage and hits very hard after boosts even without STAB.

Flying Tera Type is the best choice for this build to boost the power of Acrobatics.
Terastallizing into a pure Flying-type also removes Roaring Moon's debilitating weakness to Fairy-types.
Best Flying Tera Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
The majority of the EVs are put into its Attack and Speed, with fewer EVs in Attack to guarantee a Speed boost from Protosynthesis. This is important so that Roaring Moon will outspeed a Speed boosted Flutter Mane after one Dragon Dance. The extra 36 EVs are put into Defense to help round out its bulk.
A Jolly nature is preferred to ensure that Roaring Moon's Speed stat is one point higher than its Attack stat with the given EV spread.
Iron Head | A Steel-type attack that helps Roaring Moon deal with Fairy-types. |
---|---|
Scale Shot | A Dragon-type STAB attack that doesn't have the downsides of Outrage. |
Roost | A way for Roaring Moon to heal itself. |

・ Iron Head ・ Acrobatics ・ Crunch |
With Choice Scarf, Roaring Moon gets a staggering 282 Speed, giving it enough Speed to outrace even Jolly Electrode. Dragon Claw gives it neutral coverage against most types, with a selection of other moves to Choice lock into should the need arise.
Outrage | Outrage is Roaring Moon's most powerful Dragon-type Move. |
---|---|
Jaw Lock | Jaw Lock can be used instead of Crunch to punish bad switch ins. However, this may prove risky, as Roaring Moon will not be able to switch out either. |

Incredibly high Speed and Attack stats. Gets a Speed or Attack Boost in Sun. Wide movepool makes it an unpredictable Pokemon to go up against. |
As with all Past Paradox Pokemon, Roaring Moon has Protosynthesis. But even without ways to trigger it, it is still an effective Pokemon on its own. Booster Energy is consumed as soon as Roaring Moon enters the field, which powers up Acrobatics.
Acrobatics is Roaring Moon's most damaging move, which can be further boosted with Terastallization.
Knock Off is a powerful STAB Move, that can remove an opposing Pokemon's Held Item. This is especially useful against opposing Pokemon with Eviolite.
Roaring Moon can usually position for a sweep after a single Dragon Dance. Protect is best used on turns where Roaring Moon is in danger of getting double targeted. It is also great for stalling turns of Trick Room and Tailwind.
This build makes use of Tera Flying as it lets Roaring Moon deal as much damage as possible with Acrobatics while getting rid of all its weaknesses except Ice.
84 HP EVs and 4 EVs in Defense and Special Defense give Roaring Moon some bulk to survive attacks on neutral hits. With a Jolly Nature, a full 252 is put into Speed with only 164 going into Attack.
This ensures that Roaring Moon will always get a Speed boost from Booster Energy and Protosynthesis while still being able to deal meaningful damage.
Tailwind | Best used with +Speed Booster Energy, Roaring Moon can reliably set Tailwind for your team |
---|---|
Breaking Swipe | Best used with +Speed Booster Energy, Roaring Moon can be effective at disrupting Physical Attackers through repeated Breaking Swipes. |

Dragon Dance puts Roaring Moon at +1 Attack and +2 Speed after a Booster Energy Speed boost, allowing it to shred through unprepared teams.
Roaring Moon can run items like Life Orb and Choice Band to boost its offense instead of Booster Energy, especially with teammates that can set up Sun.
Paradox Pokemon Builds for Competitive Battles and Tera Raids
Roaring Moon appreciates bulky teammates who can take hits in its stead. A Tank that can be a nuisance on the field or a support Pokemon will get the job done.
Screens Lead | Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Alolan Ninetales | Roaring Moon | Heatran |
Alolan Ninetales can help increase its team's bulk with Aurora Veil while Heatran can comfortably tank Ice and Fairy-type attacks for Roaring Moon.
Intimidate | Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Landorus (Therian Forme) | Roaring Moon |
Physical Attacker | Support / Redirection |
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) | Amoonguss |
Roaring Moon benefits greatly from Landorus' Intimidate support, debuffing the common Physical Attackers in the current meta.
Hearthflame Ogerpon is a good win condition with the high amount of damage it can do, especially when Terastallized and getting an Attack boost from Embody Aspect.
Amoonguss can protect its team with Rage Powder and by putting opponents to sleep with Spore.
