A Mystery Gift Code to receive a competitive ready Gastrodon has been announced to go live during the beginning of the 2023 Pokemon World Championships Livestream on August 11, 2023.
This Gastrodon is based on the 2022 Pokemon World Championships Champion, Eduardo Cunha (@MeninoJardim)'s Gastrodon. During its matches, Gastrodon was able to consistently stay on the field and offer its support to its team. It was great at redirecting Water Type moves with its Storm Drain, controlling speed with Icy Wind, and disrupting the opponent with Yawn.

Soft Sand |
The best ability for Gastrodon in Tera Raid Battles is Storm Drain. This allows Gastrodon to remove its Water-type weakness, and instead get a Special Attack boost from it.
Coupled with its resistance to Poison, Gastrodon is a bulky and reliable Tera Raid Pokemon.
We also recommend getting a Gastrodon with a Ground Tera Type to further increase the damage of Earth Power. As a Special Attacker, a Modest nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense to help with survivability while dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Sp. Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Defense. The Soft Sand held item helps in further boosting Gastrodon's Earth Power damage.
Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Clear Smog to remove stat boosts from the opposing Pokemon. |
Turns 3~4 | Use Earth Power to build up tera charge while dealing super effective damage. |
Turn 5 | Use Stockpile after to boost Gastrodon's defenses. |
Turns 6+ | Terastallize and use double STAB boosted Earth Power. |
Start the battle by using Clear Smog to remove the opponent's stat boosts if it has any. Follow up with Earth Power to deal damage and build up Tera charge.
Once you have enough charge, Terastallize to further increase the damage of Earth Power. Remember to use Recover whenever your HP falls too much to avoid fainting!
