Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Mew | Loyal Three Ace ・Able to take on The Loyal Three ・Versatile moveset ・Can become the opponent's Type |
Flutter Mane | Secondary Ace ・Positive matchup against Carmine and most of the Ogre Clan Members |
Iron Bundle | Ace Sweeper ・Freeze-Dry is super-effective against nearly all of Kieran's Pokemon ・Freeze-Dry and Hydro Pump combo can OHKO almost every Ogerpon form |
Drifblim | General Sweeper ・Great for Bloodmoon Ursaluna encounter ・Good matchup against several trainers and Ogerpon |
Gholdengo | Money Maker ・Positive matchup against the Ogre Clan Members that Flutter Mane doesn't match up against ・Great for money farming against Billy and O'Nare |
Hisuian Decidueye | Best Catcher ・Scrappy means it can hit Ghost Types ・Gets False Swipe, Taunt, and Roost ・Has good offensive coverage moves |
Mew, Flutter Mane, Iron Bundle, and Drifblim are good offensive Pokemon that are well-suited to help you through both the required and optional battles in the Teal Mask's story.
Gholdengo is the best Pokemon to use if you're looking to maximize the amount of money you can get from all the new trainers you can battle. Use Make It Rain as much as you can, and give it an Amulet Coin to increase your rewards further.
Hisuian Decidueye is the ideal Pokemon to use when catching new Pokemon because of its access to False Swipe and its Scrappy Ability allowing to use False Swipe on Ghost Types.
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Hisuian Arcanine
Basculegion (Male) Sinistcha |
Fire / Water / Grass Core ・Good Type coverage ・Can all be found in Kitakami ・All three of these are strong offensively ・Can be substituted with whichever Sinnoh starter you get from Jacq's egg, either Infernape, Empoleon, or Torterra |
Bloodmoon Ursaluna | Loyal Three Ace ・Ground typing allows it to take on The Loyal Three with ease ・Blood Moon is a strong Normal-type STAB move that can deal a lot of damage to any Pokemon |
Hisuian Decidueye | Best Catcher ・Scrappy means it can hit Ghost-types ・Gets False Swipe, Taunt, and Roost ・Has good offensive coverage moves |
Mew | Versatile Ace ・Versatile moveset ・Can become the opponent's Type ・Good backup for Bloodmoon Ursaluna |
If you want to use a team mainly comprised of Pokemon found in Kitakami, while still maintaining a good balance of Types, try out this team.
For a full Teal Mask Fire/Water/Grass core, you may want to use Hisuian Arcanine, Basculegion, and Sinistcha in your team. They may require some effort to evolve, but they are worth the trouble. You can also substitute one of these Pokemon for the Sinnoh starter you get from hatching Jacq's egg.
Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a strong Pokemon you can catch by doing the Photography with Perrin Side Quest. This is also how you can get a Hisuian Growlithe, which you can evolve into Hisuian Arcanine.
While Hisuian Decidueye and Mew are not native to Kitakami, they have only become easily obtainable in the game around the time of the Teal Mask DLC's release. The Mew Mystery Gift finished its distribution shortly after the DLC came out, while Hisuian Decidueye was made available through the first 7-star raid event after the DLC's release.
Kitakami Pokedex: List of All Teal Mask DLC Pokemon
Encounter | Pokemon Team |
---|---|
First Encounter | ・Sentret ・Yanma |
Second Encounter | ・Furret ・Poliwhirl ・Yanma |
Third Encounter | ・Yanma ・Poliwrath ・Furret ・Dipplin |
Fourth Encounter | ・Yanmega ・Gligar ・Poliwrath ・Cramorant ・Dipplin |
Fifth Encounter | ・Shiftry ・Gliscor ・Yanmega ・Poliwrath ・Dipplin ・Probopass |
Kieran's team will vary depending on whether you've finished Scarlet and Violet's main story or not. If you haven't finished The Way Home, the final story arc of the base game, Kieran's team will be level 12 for the first two battles and will gradually increase to level 33~38 for the final battle.
If you've already finished the main story of the base game, you can expect his Pokemon levels to be at around level 60~71.
Kieran's team is mainly weak to Electric and Ice-type attacks, so it's a good idea to have at least one Electric and one Ice Type with you when you battle Kieran.
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Iron Hands
or Pawmot |
Primary Sweeper ・Electric and Fighting-type moves are super-effective against most of Kieran's team ・The Pawmot line is a good substitute if you don't have access to Iron Hands ・Best used against Sentret, Furret, Yanma, Yanmega, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Cramorant, and Probopass ・Watch out for Gligar and Gliscor's Ground-type moves in the fourth and fifth Kieran battles |
Iron Bundle
or Mamoswine |
Secondary Sweeper ・An Ice Type that covers the weaknesses of the primary sweeper ・Use this Pokemon against Dipplin, Gligar, Gliscor, and Shiftry ・Mamoswine is a good substitute if you don't have access to Iron Bundle ・You can also use Swinub if you're doing the DLC before completing the base game |
Gholdengo | Money Maker ・Great for money farming, especially when given an Amulet Coin ・Neutral matchup against most of Kieran's team ・Not recommended against Gligar, Gliscor, and Shiftry |
Iron Hands and Pawmot are both Electric and Fighting-type Pokemon that match up well against Kieran's team. Pawmot is easier to obtain between the two, but if you do have an Iron Hands that you can use, it is preferable.
It may be a good idea to bring both Iron Bundle and Mamoswine if you can in case something unfortunate happens to your other sweepers. They both also have a positive matchup against most of Kieran's team.
Gholdengo is a good Pokemon to bring in case you are in need of more money. Equip it with an Amulet Coin, and sprinkle in a few Make It Rains if you aren't threatened by his Pokemon.
The rest of the team can be filled with other Pokemon you've been using in your playthrough. You may want to add in Pokemon recommended against Carmine's team since battles with these two trainers sometimes occur close to one another.
How to Beat Kieran: Best Team and Strategy
Encounter | Pokemon Team |
---|---|
First Encounter | ・Poochyena ・Poltchagheist ・Vulpix |
Second and Third Encounter | ・Mightyena ・Ninetales ・Morpeko ・Sinistcha ・Leavanny |
If you have not finished Scarlet and Violet's main story, Carmine's team will start off at level 12. The final battle with Carmine will have Pokemon at level 33~35.
If you have finished the base game's story, her team will start off at level 60, and her strongest Pokemon for her last battle will be at level 74.
Carmine's team is composed of Dark, Fire, Grass, Ghost, and Electric Type Pokemon, so you should bring Pokemon that can cover those Types.
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Gliscor
or Mamoswine |
Primary Sweeper ・Super-effective STAB attacks against all of Carmine's Pokemon except for Poochyena and Mightyena ・Gliscor can learn a Bug-type move to cover for these Dark Types ・Use Mamoswine if you don't have access to Gliscor |
Camerupt | Primary/Secondary Sweeper ・Primary sweeper for the first battle since you may not have access to the other Pokemon yet ・Super-effective against all of Carmine's Pokemon except for Poochyena and Mightyena |
Flutter Mane | Secondary Sweeper ・Can deal with Poochyena and Mightyena ・Can use strong Ghost-type moves against Poltchageist and Sinistcha ・It can also do super-effective damage to Carmine's Grass-types with Mystical Fire |
Iron Hands
or Pawmot |
Secondary Sweeper ・Can deal with Poochyena and Mightyena ・Can also be used against Kieran's team ・Use Pawmot if you don't have access to Iron Hands |
Gholdengo | Money Maker ・Great for money farming, especially when given an Amulet Coin ・Be careful when going against her Dark, Fire, and Ghost Types |
Gliscor and Mamoswine are the ideal Pokemon to use against Carmine's team. However, since they are only available in Kitakami, you may not have caught them yet when you first battle Carmine.
Camerupt can serve as your primary attacker instead for this first battle, since it also has a good Type matchup against her team.
Flutter Mane, Iron Hands, or Pawmot can deal with the Pokemon that the primary sweepers cannot. You don't need both Iron Hands and Pawmot on your team. Use whichever you have.
Gholdengo is once again the recommended Pokemon if you want to earn more money from trainer battles.
There are some Pokemon here that are good against both Carmine and Kieran's teams, so you may just want to combine them into one team.

The Loyal Three | ||
---|---|---|
Okidogi ▶️ How to Beat Titanic Okidogi |
Munkidori ▶️ How to Beat Titanic Munkidori |
Fezandipiti ▶️ How to Beat Titanic Fezandipiti |
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Gliscor | Primary Sweeper ・Ground moves are super-effective against all Loyal Three Pokemon ・Best to have the Poison Heal Ability because of Toxic Chain's chance to poison |
Mew | Secondary Sweeper ・Good against all of The Loyal Three ・Has access to STAB Psychic-type moves ・Resist's Munkidori's Psychic-type moves ・Can copy the opponent's Poison typing and be immune to the Poison status |
Bloodmoon Ursaluna | Backup Sweeper ・Strong Ground-type Pokemon that can deal a lot of damage to The Loyal Three ・Resists Poison-type moves ・Can clean up in case your other sweepers aren't able to defeat the opponent |
Gholdengo | Poison Immunity ・Immune to Poison-type moves and Poison status condition because of its Steel typing ・Deals super-effective damage to both Munkidori and Fezandipiti with its STAB Ghost and Steel-type moves |
Gliscor with the Poison Heal Ability is the best Pokemon to use against all Loyal Three Pokemon because of its access to strong Ground-type moves, its resistance to Poison-type moves, and how it benefits from getting poisoned. However, since it is a version exclusive and Poison Heal is its Hidden Ability, it may be a bit difficult to get for some players.
Mew and Bloodmoon Ursaluna are both good attackers to have in case Gliscor isn't able to defeat its opponent by itself or if you don't have access to Poison Heal Gliscor.
Gholdengo can be used as more than just a money maker this time. Its immunity to Poison-type attacks and the Poison status condition makes it an excellent defensive pivot. It can also deal with Munkidori and Fezandipiti offensively.
You can round out the team with two additional Pokemon of your choice.
All Ogerpon Forms | |||
---|---|---|---|
Ogerpon (Hearthflame Mask) |
Ogerpon (Wellspring Mask) |
Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) |
Ogerpon |
Pokemon | Explanation |
---|---|
Iron Bundle | Primary Sweeper ・Positive matchup against all Ogerpon forms ・Can deal super-effective damage to all Ogerpon forms with Freeze-Dry, Hydro Pump, and Air Cutter |
Drifblim | Secondary Sweeper ・Deals super-effective damage to all Ogerpon forms except the Cornerstone Mask form |
Hisuian Decidueye | Backup Sweeper ・Deals super-effective damage to all Ogerpon forms with its Flying and Fighting-type moves |
Gliscor | Backup Sweeper ・Has access to STAB Flying-type moves ・Also has access to strong Bug-type moves to cover for Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon |
The best Pokemon to use against Ogerpon is Iron Bundle because of its typing and access to super-effective moves against all Ogerpon forms. Drifblim is also a good pick against most of the Ogerpon forms.
However, both of these Pokemon may struggle with Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon, since Rock is super-effective against both Iron Bundle and Drifblim, and Sturdy allows Cornerstone Ogerpon to survive at least one hit.
It is best to use either Hisuian Decidueye or Gliscor when dealing with the Rock-type Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon.
Hisuian Decidueye is the best Pokemon to use for catching wild Pokemon. It has access to False Swipe and Taunt, both valuable moves to have when trying to catch more difficult to obtain Pokemon.
False Swipe is a Normal-type move that allows you to safely reduce a Pokemon's HP without knocking it out, and Hisuian Decidueye's Scrappy Ability allows it to use False Swipe even on Ghost Types. Taunt is useful against Pokemon with self-KO moves like Memento.
Hisuian Decidueye also has access to recovery moves in Synthesis and Roost to help it last longer against more stubborn, difficult to catch Pokemon.
You can get your own Hisuian Decidueye from the 7-Star Hisuian Decidueye raid event or by transferring it from Pokemon HOME.
Hisuian Decidueye Location, Evolution, and Learnset
Gholdengo is the best Pokemon to use if you want to earn more money. Its signature move Make It Rain gives money equal to 10x Gholdengo's current level every time it is used. You'll be able to receive the money at the end of the battle.
It's best to use Gholdengo for trainer battles. Make it hold the Amulet Coin item to increase the monetary rewards from these trainer battles. Combined with your Make It Rain earnings, you should have no problem earning enough money to use in the DLC.
