This is a balanced rental team featuring Palafin as part of a more defensive-oriented core with Hippowdon providing Yawn and Stealth Rock support, while Magnezone functions as an offensive pivot
Nature | Impish (+Def, -Sp. Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Sp. Def |
Final Stat Values | 215 HP / 132 Atk / 171 Def / 107 Sp. Def / 47 Spe |
Ability | Sand Stream |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Sitrus Berry |
Moveset | ・
Earthquake
・ Yawn ・ Stealth Rock ・ Roar |
Hippowdon's main role in this team is to provide Stealth Rock support while also functioning as a phazer with Yawn and Earthquake. As a defensive pivot, it's best used in tandem with Scizor who doesn't take residual damage from Sand and can check bulky Grass-types that Hippowdon struggles with.
Hippowdon Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Adamant (+Atk, -Sp. Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 195 HP / 134 Atk / 92 Def / 82 Sp. Def / 133 Spe |
Ability | Zero to Hero |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Choice Band |
Moveset | ・
Wave Crash
・ Ice Punch ・ Flip Turn ・ Jet Punch |
This Palafin set has maxed out Attack EVs to ensure that it hits as hard as possible. It then puts enough Speed to outrun Houndstone outside of Sand, and other Base 68 Speed or slower Pokemon, with the rest put into HP.
Wave Crash and Ice Punch offer good coverage being resisted by few types, with Flip Turn as an option early-game to get Palafin out of the active position quickly. Jet Punch gives Palafin a Priority option if it needs it.
Choice Band, an Adamant Nature, and Tera Water are chosen to give Palafin even more firepower.
Palafin Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Timid (+Spe, -Sp. Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 252 Sp. Atk / 4 Sp. Def / 252 Spe/td> |
Final Stat Values | 167 HP / 110 Def / 177 Sp. Atk / 111 Sp. Def / 165 Spe |
Ability | Levitate |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Choice Specs |
Moveset | ・
Draco Meteor
・ Dark Pulse ・ Flash Cannon ・ U-turn |
Draco Meteor is Hydreigon's most powerful move, which is especially useful for its burst damage and its ability to take knock outs. Dark Pulse is its secondary STAB, which it will use more consistently because it does not have the same Special Attack drop that Draco Meteor has. Flash Cannon is Hydreigon's coverage move of choice, which lets it damage Fairy-types for super-effective, while U-Turn lets it get out of the active spot without risking a switch.
Tera Steel helps Hydreigon get rid of its bad defensive typing in favor of a stronger defensive one in Steel. This also grants Flash Cannon a STAB boost. With Levitate, this leaves Hydreigon with only a Fire weakness.
Choice Specs ensures that Hydreigon hits even harder with its Special Attacks.
Hydreigon Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Modest (+Sp. Atk, -Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 84 HP / 4 Def / 212 Sp. Atk / 12 Sp. Def / 196 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 173 HP / 116 Def / 198 Sp. Atk / 113 Sp. Def / 129 Spe (196 with Choice Scarf) |
Ability | Good as Gold |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Choice Scarf |
Moveset | ・
Make It Rain
・ Shadow Ball ・ Dazzling Gleam ・ Trick |
Gholdengo with 196 Speed EVs puts it at 129 Speed, which Choice Scarf raises to 193 allowing it to outspeed Noivern and Meowscarada. Make it Rain and Shadow Ball are must-haves for Gholdengo, with Dazzling Gleam to hit opposing Dragons like Hydreigon and Garchomp who can threaten it with super-effective STAB Attacks. Trick is useful for choice locking Utility Pokemon and neutralize their effectiveness.
Gholdengo's Good as Gold is a powerful Ability that grants it protection from status moves and debuffs.
Gholdengo Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Modest (+Sp. Atk, -Atk) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 236 HP / 252 Sp. Atk / 20 Sp. Def |
Final Stat Values | 175 HP / 135 Def / 200 Sp. Atk / 113 Sp. Def / 80 Spe |
Ability | Analytic |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Assault Vest |
Moveset | ・
Thunderbolt
・ Flash Cannon ・ Volt Switch ・ Tera Blast |
Magnezone makes use Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon as its main STAB moves, with Volt Switch to get it out of the active spot in a pinch. Water Tera Blast lets Magnezone hit Ground and Fire-type Pokemon for super-effective damage, turning bad matchups into good matchups.
Assault Vest gives Magnezone even more Special bulk, which complements its good Physical bulk. These go hand-in-hand with its Analytic Ability, where Magnezone has to attack last to get the offensive boost.
Magnezone Movesets and Best Builds
Nature | Adamant (+Atk, -Spe) |
---|---|
EV Spread | 148 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 4 Sp. Def / 100 Spe |
Final Stat Values | 189 HP / 189 Atk / 86 Def / 96 Sp. Def / 93 Spe |
Ability | Prankster |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Life Orb |
Moveset | ・
Spirit Break
・ Sucker Punch ・ Tera Blast ・ Parting Shot |
Offensive Grimmsnarl is uncommon but very powerful in a team like this. Spirit Break and Sucker Punch are powerful STAB options for Grimmsnarl, who already has a sky-high Attack stat. Fire Tera Blast lets it hit Steel-types for super-effective damage. And while this Grimmsnarl is mostly offensive, it still has access to Prankster Parting Shot, which will let a teammate come in against a debuffed opponent.
Grimmsnarl Movesets and Best Builds
This balanced team features Palafin, Hydreigon, and Gholdengo as its main offensive Pokemon, with Grimmsnarl and Magnezone offering offense as well. Hippowdon is defensive enough to be an effective Lead, setting up Stealth Rock for its team. This can punish opponents from switching so often, something opponents will be forced to do when up against the team's main offensive Pokemon.
Additionally, when using Hippowdon, it is sometimes good to have Gholdengo and Magnezone in the back, who are both immune to the residual damage from Sandstorm.
Always be aware of what your Pokemon can and cannot outspeed and you should find success with this team.
