This Hydreigon build focuses on Hydreigon's high Special Attack firepower to counter the unrivaled Typhlosion.
Hydreigon's Dark and Dragon typing allows it to resist Ghost and Fire type moves, but will be vulnerable if Typhlosion has Focus Blast.
We also recommend getting a Hydreigon with a Dark Tera Type to further increase its damage from using STAB Dark moves. As a Special Attacker, a Modest nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards Bulky Offense to increase damage and survivability. Max out your HP and Sp. Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Sp. Def. The Shell Bell held item allows Hydreigon to heal off its moves, especially since it does not gain access to good recovery moves, and must rely on Heal Up otherwise.
Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Strategy | |
---|---|
Turns 1~3 | Use Nasty Plot three times to increase Special Attack by six stages. |
Turns 4~6 | Use Snarl to build Tera Orb charge while also lowering Typhlosion's Sp. Atk stat. |
Turns 7+ | Terastallize and use Dark Pulse to deal even more damage until Typhlosion is defeated. |
Start off the raid by using Nasty Plot to boost your Special Attack, then use Snarl to build up Tera Orb charge while also lowering Typhlosion's Sp. Atk stat.
Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, Terastallize and use Dark Pulse repeatedly to defeat Typhlosion.

Snarl (+6 Sp. Atk) 1,242 ~ 1,464 (9.85 ~ 11.60%) |

This Hydreigon Tera Raid Build is an effective counter to Psychic and Ghost Type Tera Raid Bosses. If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Fighting or Fairy Type outside of Terastallization, perhaps consider a different build, as Hydreigon will be weak to these Types as a Dark Type attacker.

The only ability Hydreigon has is Levitate, which gives it immunity to Ground-type moves.
We also recommend getting a Hydreigon with a Dark Tera Type to resist Ghost-type STAB moves, as well as the boost it gives to its Dark-type STAB. As a Special Attacker, a Modest nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky physical attacker to help with survivability while also dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Sp. Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense. Give it a Shell Bell to allow Hydreigon to heal when using damaging moves.
Make sure to begin the raid with a Taunt to shut down disrupting or statboosting moves.
Hydreigon Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Taunt to disable the raid Pokemon's status moves. |
Turns 2~4 | Use Nasty Plot to maximize your Special Attack |
Turn 5~7 | Use stat boosted Dark Pulse, or Flash Cannon depending on the Raid Pokemon's Tera type. |
Turns 8+ | Terastallize and use stat boosted Dark Pulse or Flash Cannon. Re-apply Taunt when needed |
Start the battle by using Taunt to disable the raid Pokemon's status moves, allowing you to setup Nasty Plot freely. Hydreigon's main damaging moves Dark Pulse and Flash Cannon both enjoy the stat boosts from Nasty Plot, and can hit most types for at least neutral damage.

This Hydreigon build focuses on Hydreigon's high Special Attack firepower.
HP EVs are better than Speed allocation for Tera raids since Hydreigon already has a high base Speed stat that allows it to outspeed most Pokemon.
We also recommend getting a Hydreigon with a Dragon or Dark Tera Type to further increase its damage from using STAB Dragon or Dark moves. As a Special Attacker, a Modest nature would be best.

Turns 2~4 | Use Dragon Pulse or Dark Pulse to deal +2 STAB damage. |
Turns 5+ | Terastallize and use Dragon Pulse or Dark Pulse to deal even more damage or break the Raid Pokemon's Tera Shield. |
Start off the raid by using Nasty Plot to boost your Special Attack, then use Dragon Pulse or Dark Pulse to deal boosted STAB damage. Thunder Wave can also be used at the start of the battle to Paralyze the Raid Pokemon.

You can catch a Deino with a Dragon or Dark Tera Type at North Province Area One. We recommend looking inside caves, which is a common spawn point for Deino.
Make sure to bring a Pokemon that has False Swipe and can inflict a status effect to make it easier to catch.
For players on Pokemon Violet, the only way to obtain Deino or any of its evolutions is through trade, or raids hosted by players playing on Scarlet.
