What are Natures?

1.2x Damage Boost to All Damaging Moves in Masked Forms

When Ogrepon has a Mask Held Item (Wellspring Mask, Hearthflame Mash, or Cornerstone Mask, not the Teal Mask base form), it receives an additional 20% damage boost on all moves, regardless of whether they are STAB or not.

This bonus also applies even if Ogrepon is not Terastallized. This amounts to a total of a 1.7x damage boost when accounting for STAB + Mask Boost. If Terastallized and using a move which matches the Tera Type, this reaches up to a 2.2x Damage boost!

State when Attacking Damage Boost
Holding Mask 1.2x
Holding Mask + using a STAB move 1.7x
Holding Mask + using a STAB move + Terastallized (if Tera Type matches Move type) 2.2x

How to Use Ogerpon (Grass) Effectively

Prevent Intimidate Users from Switching In

Ogerpon's ability Defiant will give a +2 bonus to its attack when its stats are lowered, so opponents will be cautious of using Pokemon with Intimidate. Note that Intimidate drops occur before Terastallization, so you will still get a Defiant boost before your ability changes to Embody Aspect.

Defiant will also give Ogerpon a +2 after Intimidate drops its Attack stat by 1 stage, effectively putting Ogerpon at +1 Attack.

Embody Aspect's Stat Buff

Terasatallize in order get a speed boost from Embody Aspect. Ogerpon in combination with Choice Band and the speed boost from Embody Aspect will be able to deal massive damage to opponents before they can even retaliate.

How to Build a Team with Ogerpon (Grass)

Ideally Ogerpon will be used as a fast Physical Attacker that does not want to take too much damage in return. It is recommened to use Ogerpon alongside other Pokemon that can cover for its weaknesses.

Sample Singles Teams

Focus Sash Lead Physical Attacker Physical Attacker
Ribombee ImageRibombee Ogerpon ImageOgerpon Hisuian Arcanine ImageHisuian Arcanine

Use Ribombee as a fast Sticky Web lead to help maintain speed control. Terastallized Ogerpon should be able to outspeed most Pokemon with the combination of Embody Aspect's speed boosts and Sticky Web's speed drops.

Use Hisuian Arcanine as a pivot for Ogerpon since its Fire/Rock typing completely covers Ogerpon's weaknesses.

Sample Doubles Teams

Hisuian Arcanine ImageHisuian Arcanine Ogerpon ImageOgerpon
Physical Attacker Physical Attacker
Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style ImageUrshifu Rapid-Strike Style Chien-Pao ImageChien-Pao

Hisuian Arcanine, Ogerpon, and Urshifu Rapid Strike compliment each other really well by forming a defensive Fire, Grass, Water core.

Hisuian Arcanine provides Intimidate support for the team while also covering for all of Ogerpon's weaknesses.

Urshifu Rapid Strike and Chien-Pao are two of the strongest Pokemon in the current metagame while also covering for any other weaknesses the team may have.

Counters for Ogerpon (Grass)

Use Priority Moves

While Ogerpon is decently fast, Priority and faster Pokemon can handily deal with it.

The best users of Priority are the combo of Chien-Pao and Dragonite, who both can threaten Ogerpon with their offensive options.
