Quark Drive | Booster Energy |
Quark Drive is Iron Moth's only Ability, which increases its highest stat by 30% when Electric Terrain is active or when holding a Booster Energy. In this build, Iron Moth's Sp. Atk is boosted by 30%.
Booster Energy is this build's held item to guarantee Iron Moth activates Quark Drive and boosts its Special Attack by 30%.
Build Moves | |
---|---|
Fiery Dance | Sludge Wave |
Energy Ball | Dazzling Gleam |
Fiery Dance is its best Fire-type STAB move. This move has a 50% chance to boost Iron Moth's Sp. Atk by one stage.
Sludge Wave is its strongest Poison-type STAB move that does not have any drawbacks.
Energy Ball is its main coverage move since it allows Iron Moth to hit Ground, Rock and Water types that it is normally weak to.
Dazzling Gleam is the last move chosen because it has the widest coverage range out of Iron Moth's other attacks.
Grass Tera Type Matchup | ||
---|---|---|
Weak to: | ||
(2x) | ||
Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Resists: | (0.5x) | |
Grass is the best Tera Type for Iron Moth since it turns all of its major weaknesses into resistances and it also boosts the damage of Energy Ball.
Alternatively, it could use a Stellar Tera to boost the damage of whatever move it uses, but it would still prefer a defensive Tera like Grass.
A full 252 EVs are placed into its Sp. Atk and Speed to allow Iron Moth to hit as hard and fast as possible. The extra 4 EVs are placed into its Defense to help round out its bulk.
A Timid nature is preferred to help Iron Moth outspeed Pokemon that are normally faster than it.
Discharge | Another good coverage option that has a chance to paralyze the opposing Pokemon. |
---|---|
Toxic Spikes | Allows Iron Moth to also operate as an offensive lead. |

Moveset | ・
Fiery Dance
・ Sludge Wave ・ Bug Buzz ・ Agility |
Iron Moth's well-rounded special bulk makes it a good bulky special attacker, with Quark Drive automatically activating thanks to Booster Energy and giving the Paradox Pokemon a significant Sp. Atk boost when switched in.
This build utilizes Fiery Dance to have a chance of passively boosting Iron Moth's Sp. Atk, while Sludge Wave is its secondary STAB that lets it threaten Fairy-types like Gardevoir and Dachsbun.
Bug Buzz is a good coverage move and is a stronger move to hit Wo-Chien, while Agility is a great secondary boosting move that's best used when predicting a switch.
A Stellar Tera Type is mainly used to boost the damage of its STAB moves without having to commit to a single Tera Type.
Discharge | Discharge is a better alternative to Bug Buzz as it allows Iron Moth to threaten bulky Water-types. |
---|---|
Flash Cannon | A good alternative to Bug Buzz that lets Iron Moth hit Rock-types. |

Moveset | ・
Fiery Dance
・ Acid Spray ・ Energy Ball ・ Protect |
Immensely high Special Attack Stat with moderate bulk. Has very good Speed if boosted with Choice Scarf or Booster Energy. Has a wide movepool with plenty of options to choose from. |
As with all Future Paradox Pokemon, Iron Moth has Quark Drive. But even without ways to trigger it, it is still an effective Pokemon on its own.
Booster Energy and a Timid Nature ensures that Iron Moth is always the fastest Pokemon on the field, even outspeeding an unboosted Iron Bundle.
Fiery Dance is a reliable Fire-type STAB Move that also boosts Iron Moth's Special Attack Stat.
Acid Spray is a great move to use alongside a Special Attacker and can usually score important KOs. Because two Pokemon are targeting one Pokemon, this strategy may fail against a well-timed Protect.
Energy Ball is a useful move against Water and Ground-types who want to go up against Iron Moth. Do remember that even though Iron Moth has a powerful tech move in Energy Ball, it is still best to keep it safe from its counters.
Iron Moth has Protect of its own, to keep it safe on turns where it is in danger of getting double targeted.
Iron Moth makes use of Tera Grass, as this lets it withstand Ground-type and Water-type Moves with ease. With its massive Special Attack Stat and wide movepool, Iron Moth is a great candidate for Terastallization.
120 EVs are put into HP to give Iron Moth moderate bulk to go with the 4 EVs in its Special Defense Stat. Only 136 EVs are put into Special Attack so that Booster Energy boosts Iron Moth's Speed instead of its Special Attack
A Timid Nature with 252 Speed EVs allows Iron Moth to outspeed Iron Bundle or even +6 Speed Dondozo and Coalossal.
Dazzling Gleam | Dazzling Gleam gives Iron Moth an option to use against Dragon and Fighting-types. |
---|---|
Heat Wave | Heat Wave is a powerful STAB Spread option. However, it is not completely accurate. |

Iron Moth's well-rounded special bulk and high Special Attack make it a great bulky attacker with a strong dual Fire/Poison STAB that allows it to threaten very common Grass, Fairy, and Ice-types in competitive play.
Paradox Pokemon Builds for Competitive Battles and Tera Raids
Iron Moth is best used as an offensive attacker due to its high Sp. Atk and great STAB coverage. Pair it with Pokemon that can complement its moveset.
Lead Attacker | Offensive Pivot | Special Attacker |
---|---|---|
Vikavolt | Iron Moth | Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask) |
Vikavolt is used as an offensive lead because it has access to moves like Sticky Web and Thunder Wave. Iron Moth's main weakness is that there are a lot of meta Pokemon that outspeed or speed-tie it, so speed control from Vikavolt is greatly appreciated.
Cornerstone Ogerpon is used because it can cover most of Vikavolt and Iron Moth's weaknesses while also being one of the strongest Pokemon in the game.
Support / Special Attacker | Special Attacker |
---|---|
Iron Moth | Flutter Mane |
Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
Dondozo | Tatsugiri |
Iron Moth can set up KOs for Flutter Mane using Acid Spray with Flutter Mane working as the primary Special Attacker.
With a strong front end consisting of Flutter Mane and Iron Moth, having Dondozo and Tatsugiri in the back as a win condition may prove valuable as both can be an unbeatable pairing in the latter parts of a match.
