Stellar Tera Type is Legal

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Stellar No Damage Boost
The newly introduced Stellar Tera Type from the Indigo Disk DLC is legal for play in Regulation F. This allows for your Pokemon to get a damage boost for first instance that a move of a specific type is used in battle, among other effects.

Stellar Tera Type Match-Ups Explained

Criteria for Tier Placings

The following are the criteria to be met when ranking Pokemon for Ranked Singles.

Tier Criteria
SS Tier SS Tier Pokemon have great offensive stats and movepools, are easy to use, and can make any team they're part of stronger. These Pokemon are often setup sweepers that have an easy time setting up with their boosting moves.
S Tier As the weeks go by and the metagame develops, Pokemon can go back and forth between SS and S Tier. These Pokemon are still solid additions to your team and are essential to Ranked Battle.
A Tier Pokemon in A Tier are often the best of their type, but are usually outclassed by Pokemon in the SS and S Tier. These Pokemon also often have great type matchups against SS and S Tier Pokemon.
B Tier B Tier Pokemon are often versatile and have effective builds, but there are generally better options in the higher tiers.
C Tier C Tier Pokemon offer good moves and stats but are often locked in specialized builds. These Pokemon have specific niches in the metagame and are outclassed by Pokemon in the higher tiers.
UR Icon UR (Unranked) Pokemon are not currently legal for ranked battle however may be valid in certain online competitions. When made available these Pokemon will surely shake up the metagame.

Contributions to a Battle

These Tiers are determined by how drastically a match is altered by a Pokemon being on the field. Whether it be Redirection, Support, or a strong Offensive presence, a Pokemon's impactfulness determines its placement on our list.

Team Synergy is Taken into Account

The criteria for best Pokemon also take into account team synergy or how well each Pokemon works in conjunction with its teammates.

Tera-Type Potential

The potential of Pokemon Terastallizing is also taken into account as this mechanic not only gives it an extra STAB of a different type, it can also remove its glaring weaknesses and give it new resistances.

Best Pokemon to Terastallize

Featured Pairs and Cores

Pokemon often have synergy with each other, which allows them to work together for good results. Featured below are some of these Pokemon and the teammates they would frequently have.

VGC Doubles Teambuilding

Murkrow + Gholdengo

Murkrow + Gholdengo
Pokemon Murkrow ImageMurkrow Gholdengo ImageGholdengo
Ability Prankster Good as Gold
Held Item Eviolite Choice Specs
Role Support Special Attacker

Murkrow makes a return in Regulation H, being the premiere Tailwind Setter of the format. It is best paired with Gholdengo, who can spam Make it Rain without worry, as Murkrow can Haze away status reductions. This duo is incredibly versatile, as they're able to match up positively against most threats in a no-Paradox, no-Legendary format.

Maus Ape

Maus Ape
Pokemon Annihilape ImageAnnihilape Maushold ImageMaushold
Ability Defiant Friend Guard
Held Item Leftovers Safety Goggles
Role Offensive Tank Support

Annihilape and Tera Ghost Maushold make for an unstoppable duo. Maushold can protect itself from Fake Out with Tera Ghost, while raising the power of Annihilape's Rage Fist with Beat Up.

Maushold can then protect Annihilape with Follow Me and give it some added bulk with its Friend Guard Ability.

Maushold with Follow Me and Safety Goggles can also improve a team's matchup against Lillikoal (Lilligant Torkoal) because Maushold can redirect After You away from Torkoal, and Sleep Powder away from Annihilape.

This strategy may struggle against redirection, however, with Rage Fist being nullified by a Normal-type Follow Me user such as Indeedee-F or opposing Maushold.

Psy Spam

Psychic Spam
Pokemon Indeedee (Female) ImageIndeedee (Female) Armarouge ImageArmarouge
Ability Psychic Surge As One (Shadow Rider)
Held Item Psychic Seed Life Orb
Role Support Special Attacker

Calyrex (Shadow Rider) is a much better user of Expanding Force compared to Armarouge or Iron Crown due to its naturally high Special Attack stat, higher Speed and Grim Neigh Ability that allows it to snowball after a knock out. This alsp means that Indeedee no longer needs to assist in setting up Trick Room and can go for Helping Hand boosts instead.

Trick Room

Trick Room
Pokemon Farigiraf ImageFarigiraf Bloodmoon Ursaluna ImageBloodmoon Ursaluna
Ability Armor Tail Mind's Eye
Held Item Safety Goggles Throat Spray
Role Support Special Attacker

Trick Room remains powerful in Regulation H. The absence of heavily offensvie Pokemon can make bulky Trick Room Pokemon even more effective by staying in battle for longer.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a special attacking menace that can be an offensive menace under Trick Room conditions.

Sun

Sun
Pokemon Torkoal ImageTorkoal Hisuian Lilligant ImageHisuian Lilligant
Ability Drought Chlorophyll
Held Item Charcoal Wide Lens
Role Support / Physical Attacker Disruption / Physical Attacker

Lilligant + Torkoal are a powerful duo that can be both disruptive or offensive. Going up against a Sun team with these two may prove difficult if you don't have counter-weather of your own or some form of Speed control.

Rain

Rain
Pokemon Politoed ImagePolitoed Basculegion (Male) ImageBasculegion (Male)
Ability Drizzle Swift Swim
Held Item Sitrus Berry Life Orb
Role Support Physical Attacker

Basculegion makes a return with its usual partner, Politoed, as a strong offensive duo with Rain. With Terastallization, Basculegion and Politoed become even harder to face down, proving even more unpredictable compared to previous Pokemon games.

Incineroar and RIllaboom

Incineroar and RIllaboom
Pokemon Incineroar ImageIncineroar Rillaboom ImageRillaboom
Ability Intimidate Grassy Surge
Held Item Sitrus Berry Grassy Seed
Role Support / Physical Attacker Support / Physical Attacker

Incineroar and Rillaboom make for a consistent core to teams, allowing players the option of having defensive switches. Their typing, natural defense, and Abilities make them a solid addition to any team.

Perish Trap

Perish Trap
Pokemon Gothitelle ImageGothitelle Politoed ImagePolitoed
Ability Shadow Tag Drizzle
Held Item Safety Goggles Sitrus Berrry
Role Support / Physical Attacker Support / Physical Attacker

Perish Trap, which gets its name from Perish Song and Shadow Tag's trapping, make for a team that is difficult to deal with. The notable absence of Flutter Mane, a prominent Ghost-type, as well as a lack of powerful offensive threats make this strategy viable in Regulation H.

Glimmora with Dondozo and Tatsugiri

Glimmora with Dondozo and Tatsugiri
Pokemon Glimmora ImageGlimmora Dondozo ImageDondozo Tatsugiri ImageTatsugiri
Ability Toxic Debris Unaware Commander
Held Item Assault Vest Leftovers Choice Scarf
Role Special Attacker Tank Special Attacker

Dondozo and Tatsugiri also makes a return, being a potent threat in Regulation H.

Dondozo, after Tatsugiri's omni-boost, can Terastallize into a number of different types. Grass to protect itself from Spore and Rage Powder, Fire to grant itself immunity to Will-O-Wisp, Steel and Dragon to give itself more immunities.

Stretchy Tatsugiri appears to be the best option for this team setup, increasing Dondozo's Speed whenever it uses Order Up.

Glimmora makes an appearance in this team composition because of its ability to spread Poison with its Toxic Debris Ability and Mortal Spin. Affliciting opponents with Poison can help break Focus Sash, help Dondozo and Tatsugiri outlast its opponents, and also whittle down opposing tanky Pokemon.
