Can you Catch the Lurking Steel Titan?

How to Catch Lurking Steel Titan: Orthworm

During the initial battle, the only option is to defeat Orthworm. However, after defeating Orthworm, it will be back in its regular non Titan size the next time you return to the area. You are then able to catch it. As Orthworm is a Steel type, be sure to bring along a Pokemon that can resist its attacks such as Talonflame, Crocalor or Pawmot

Make sure to stock up on Pokeballs, with Great Ball and Ultra Ball being the common options, but under certain conditions, special Pokeballs such as Dusk Balls, Timer Balls, and Repeat Balls can be more effective.

Use False Swipe

If you have access to a Pokemon that knows the move False Swipe, using the move when Orthworm is low on HP can ensure that it will not faint, as False Swipe always leaves the target with at least 1 HP.

Use Pawmot

Pawmot learns Nuzzle, a move with a 100% chance to paralyze the opponent in its base stage at level 12. It also learns the new move Revival Blessing, which allows it to revive a team member, very useful for if your False Swiper is knocked out. Its part Electric Typing allows it to resist Steel Type moves, while its part Fighting Type allows it to quickly whittle down its health with a super effective move (be sure not to knock it out though!).

Exclusive Titan Mark and Title

Pokemon that were previously Titan Pokemon will also have a special Titan Mark, along with the Title: Former Titan which is presented as in game battle text denoting that they were previously Titan Pokemon. If you do capture them or accidentally defeat them a second time, the Titan Pokemon will no longer appear in the area however, so choose wisely.
List of Marks and How to Get All Marks

Caught Titans Have the Jumbo Mark

The Titan Orthworm is the Largest Orthworm that exists in the game. Showing it to the person who gives you the Size-Dex gives your Orthworm a Jumbo Mark, and the Title: The Great to denote that it is the largest amongst its species!

Can Orthworm The Lurking Steel Titan be Shiny?

The Titans are Shiny Locked

Shiny Sneasel Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Unfortunately, as with all of the other static encounter in the game, such as the Starter Pokemon and Legendaries, the Titan Pokemon are shiny locked. This includes your second encounter with them in their regular sized form, so unfortunately you will not be able to shiny hunt for a shiny former Titan.
