Chien-Pao Catching Tips

Catching Tips

Form a Dark and Ice Resistant Team

At level 60, Chien-Pao dishes out powerful Dark and Ice moves and lowers your Pokemon's defense with its Ability, Sword of Ruin. Fire-type is great against Ice-type Pokemon, but be careful in using them if you want to catch Chien-Pao. Leave out your Ghost and Psychic pokemons as they'll be weak against Chien-Pao's moves.

Having Skeledirge is a recommended Pokemon to have as it's immune and resistant to Sacred Sword and Icicle Crash. Its Move, Incinerate, can take a chunk of its HP down and Bite can slowly whittle it down without defeating it.

Use False Swipe to Prevent it from Fainting

Move Type Effect
False Swipe Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Normal Type Moves Leaves the target with at least 1 HP.

False Swipe leaves the opposing Pokemon with exactly 1 HP, ensuring that the Pokemon you're aiming to catch won't faint.
