Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Intimidate Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Sitrus Berry ImageSitrus Berry

The Ability chosen for this build is Intimidate. This will reduce the Attack of the opponent by one stage whenever Incineroar switches in.

The item chosen for this build is Sitrus Berry. This lets Incineroar heal itself when it is brought down to half health.

Moves Breakdown

Parting Shot Will-O-Wisp
Knock Off Flare Blitz

Parting Shot will reduce the offensive stats of the target by one stage. It will also switch Incineroar out if the stats are lowered.

Will-O-Wisp lets Incineroar burn a target which will halve their Attack stat.

Knock Off is a strong Dark-type STAB move that will remove the opponent's held item.

Flare Blitz is its strongest Fire-type STAB move that gives Incineroar a strong offensive option.

EV Spread and Nature

Incineroar's EV spread is built to make it as bulky as possible to allow it to tank enemy hits. This specific spread is meant to make Incineroar more physically bulky rather than special because of the current meta.

An Impish nature is preferred to make Incineroar as physically bulky as possible.

Other Viable Moves

Darkest Lariat A more offensive Dark-type STAB option that ignores any stat changes on the opponent's side.
Burning Jealousy A Fire-type attack that is guaranteed to burn the target if it raises one of its stat the same turn this is used.
Acrobatics Becomes stronger after Incineroar eats its Sitrus Berry. Consider using a Flying Tera in conjunction with this move.

Ability and Held Item

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Incineroar Image
Ability Held Item
Intimidate Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Sitrus Berry ImageSitrus Berry

Incineroar's best Ability is Intimidate, which works great with its natural bulk, access to Snarl and U-Turn, and good typing.

A Sitrus Berry is chosen for this build to increase its overall survivability by giving it more HP.

Alternatively, a Pinch Berry like Iapapa Berry or Sitrus Berry, or Safety Goggles would be good if Incineroar would run non-damaging moves like Parting Shot or WIll-O-Wisp.

Moves Breakdown

Flare Blitz Knock Off
Parting Shot Fake Out

Flare Blitz is Incineroar's primary means of dealing damage. It is able to deal decent damage with moderate investment.

Knock Off is a powerful secondary STAB move that allows Incineroar to get rid of an opposing Gouging Fire's Clear Amulet, as well as threaten Eviolite users such as Porygon2 and Dusclops, alongside Assault Vest Iron Hands and Archaludon.

Parting Shot allows Incineroar to pivot out of the active positon while reducing the effectiveness of opposing attackers. Its middling speed makes it a good Parting Shot user, as it can soak in a hit, then allow a teammate to come in undamaged.

Fake Out is Incineroar's most important move, as the threat of Fake Out can often force defensive plays from the opponent, allowing Incineroar's partner to attack freely.

Pokemon Water Type Icon Pokemon Grass Type Icon Pokemon Electric Type Icon Pokemon Ground Type Icon

Grass is the best Tera Type for this build as it can remove Incineroar's weaknesses to Ground and Water, while taking neutral from Fighting. This is useful for when it goes up against the likes of Rapid-Strike Urshifu and Iron Hands.

Best Grass Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle

EV Spread Explanation

A full 252 is put into Incineroar's HP stat, ensuring that it has as much HP as possible. 68 Attack allows Incineroar to 2-Hit KO bulky Fire-weak Pokemon such as Amoonguss, or outright KO it if its defensive investment is lacking.

Incineroar only needs 28 Defense EVs because it is able to Intimidate Physical Attackers, while 160 Special Defense EVs and a Careful Nature rounds out its Special bulk.

Other Viable Moves

Darkest Lariat Useful for matchups that involve Pokemon raising their evasion such as Minimize Alolan Muk, or Smeargle strategies.
Throat Chop Useful for preventing Sound-based Moves such as Hyper Voice.
U-turn A useful move for getting Incineroar out of the active position after taking a hit. This is a great inclusion over Parting Shot for when Incineroar is holding an Assault Vest.
Snarl Snarl further improves Incineroar's matchup against Psy Spam teams.
Will-O-Wisp Will-O-Wisp is useful for invalidating opposing Physical Attackers.

How to Use Incineroar Effectively

Know When to Play Offensively and Defensively

Incineroar is incredibly flexible thanks to its diverse move pool. Make sure to know when you should cripple the enemy with moves like Will-O-Wisp or Parting Shot and when to do damage or threaten knockouts with offensive moves like Flare Blitz.

Use Incineroar as a Defensive Switch or Lead

Incineroar can switch in to a resisted hit, or lead off a match when you are unsure how to handle an opponent in team preview. Incineroar lets you play reactively, switching it out or using U-Turn to pivot out into a Pokemon more suited to a matchup.

How to Build a Team with Incineroar

Incineroar is an intuitive Pokemon that can easily be slot into any team. A team need not be built around Incineroar, whereas Incineroar being slot into a team can make the team much more cohesive because of the support it is able to provide.

Sample Singles Team

Both Cornerstone Ogerpon and Rapid Strike Urshifu can act as setup Pokemon or offensive pivots that benefit from Incineroar's moveset. They also create a strong Grass-Fire-Water defensive core that can offensively and defensively pivot around.

Incineroar ImageIncineroar Rillaboom ImageRillaboom

The standard Urshifu and Tornadus lead we've seen in Regulation D can benefit with Incineroar in the back, as it can switch for its allies and immediately provide Intimidate support. Its partner from Sword and Shield, Rillaboom is also good to have, as it rounds out your team defensively and gives it more defensive options.

Counters for Incineroar

Double Target Incineroar

Incineroar, though modestly bulky, will be unable to take multiple hits. If it has used up its Fake Out, It can be targetted down by two Pokemon for a clean KO.
