Leftovers |
This Gyarados build is specialized to counter Samurott in its Tera Raid Event.
The best ability for Gyarados against the 7-Star Samurott is Intimidate. This allows Gyarados to lower Samurott's Attack immediately, reducing its damage output effectively.
We also recommend getting a Gyarados with a Flying Tera Type to convert Tera Blast to Flying type after Terastallization. As a Physical Attacker, an Adamant nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Defense. Give it Leftovers to help Gyarados recover HP in between turns.
Gyarados Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Optional | Use Taunt to prevent Samurott from using status moves. |
Turns 2~4 | Use Chilling Water to lower Samurott's Attack stat while building Tera Orb charge. |
Turns 5~7 | Use Dragon Dance to boost Gyarados' Attack stat. |
Turns 8+ | Terastallize and use multi-stat boosted Tera Blast. |
Start the battle by using Taunt to prevent Samurott from using status moves. Starting off with Chilling Water immediately is also an option, to build up Tera Orb charge and lower Samurott's Attack as early as possible.
After getting enough Tera Orb charge, and preferrably after Samurott resets stat changes, start using Dragon Dance to stack Attack boosts. Once you complete your setup, Terastallize and use Super Effective Flying-type Tera Blast.

Shell Bell |
This Gyarados build makes use of Gyarados' high Attack stat paired with Dragon Dance and Rain Dance to deal the most damage possible with Waterfall.
Having Gyarados hold Shell Bell allows it to recover HP when it attacks.
The best Tera Type for Gyarados for this Tera Raid build is Water Tera Type to further boost Waterfall. As a physical attacker, an Adamant nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Defense.
Turn-by-Turn Strategy | |
---|---|
Turns 1~3 | Use Dragon Dance three times to raise your Attack stat by three stages. |
Turn 4 | Use Rain Dance to lower the damage of Fire-type moves and boost the power of Waterfall. |
Turns 5+ | Use Waterfall to deal damage. Terastallize once you have enough Tera Orb Charge to deal even more damage. |
At the start of the Tera Raid, Intimidate will activate and lower the raid boss' Attack. On the first three turns, use Dragon Dance to boost your Attack stat. Afterwards, use Rain Dance to lower the damage of Fire Type moves. Having rain active will also boost the damage of Waterfall.
After spawning rain, start using Waterfall to deal damage. Once you have enough Tera Orb Charge, Terastallize to deal even more damage with Waterfall. Re-use Rain Dance and Dragon Dance as needed.

Damp Rock |
This Gyarados build is intended to be used against Pokemon that are normally Fire Types, and acts as a special attacker that weakens physical attackers' offensive power with Intimidate to lower its Attack stat and setting up rain with Rain Dance to debilitate Fire Type moves' power and guarantee that Hurricane will always hit, as well as powering up Water type moves.
Having Gyarados hold Damp Rock will extend the duration of rain in the field. This will help you spend more turns attacking compared to using Rain Dance again.
The best Tera Type for Gyarados in this Tera Raid Battle is Flying Tera Type to further bolster Hurricane. As a special attacker, a Modest nature would be best.
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Special Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Defense.
Turn-by-Turn Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Rain Dance to lower the damage of Fire-type moves and guarantee Hurricane to always hit. |
Turns 2~4 | Take advantage of the rain and use Hurricane to deal damage. |
Turns 5+ | Terastallize and keep using Hurricane, which is now Tera-boosted. |
At the start of the Tera Raid, Intimidate will activate and lower the raid boss' Attack. On the first turn, use Rain Dance to lower the damage of Fire Type moves. Having rain active will also guarantee Hurricane to hit, as its accuracy will be boosted while it is raining.
After spawning rain, start using Hurricane to deal damage. You don't need to worry much about the rain, as holding Damp Rock extends the weather to be active for eight turns. Additionally, if you can, use Taunt to prevent the opposing Pokemon from using set up moves.
Once you can, Terastallize Gyarados to further power up Hurricane.
