Ability and Held Item

Inner Focus prevents Oranguru from getting flinched. This is a valuable Ability for a Trick Room setter to have.

Mental Herb protects Oranguru from the effects of Taunt, allowing it to set up Trick Room consistently.

Moves Breakdown

Foul Play is a reliable damaging move which can punish opponents who have high Physical Attack.

Trick Room is perhaps Oranguru's most important Move, as games will usually swing in your favor once Trick Room successfully goes up.
Oranguru's signature move, Instruct can allow its partner to attack twice. This is especially devastating when coupled with Torkoal's Eruption or Iron Hands' Drain Punch.

Lastly, Protect is great for scouting and stalling.

Best Tera Type

Tera Grass is chosen for this build, as it can grant Oranguru an immunity to Spore. While this is valuable, it is not recommended to Terastallize Oranguru unless absolutely necessary.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are put into Oranguru's Special Defense, allowing it to take Special hits comfortably. 248 HP and 8 Defense gives it enough Physical Bulk to take two Wild Charges from Iron Hands

Other Viable Moves

Psychic Psychic is a solid STAB option for Oranguru which can potentially 3-Hit KO Iron Hands
Encore Encore on Oranguru is excellent when used in Trick Room conditions. It is great for punishing opponents using Protect.

How to Use Oranguru Effectively

Protect it from Getting OHKO'd

Oranguru can protect itself from Taunts with Mental Herb and flinching with Inner Focus. It can also protect itself from Spore with Tera Grass. Its only weakness left is getting one-shot by Kingambit's Kowtow Cleave, which it can also survive by Terastallizing.
Be aware of your opponent's anti-Trick Room options and play accordingly.

How to Build a Team with Oranguru

Oranguru is best partnered with Pokemon that can help it enable Trick Room. Pokemon like Iron Hands and Hariyama can help it not get get double targeted using Fake Out and flinching your opponent's Pokemon.
These Pokemon can usually also threaten Dark-types with their Fighting-type STAB Moves.

Sample Doubles Team

Physical Attacker Special Attacker
Annihilape ImageAnnihilape Torkoal ImageTorkoal

As mentioned above, Iron Hands can offer Fake Out support and Fighting-type STAB.
Annihilape, another Fighting-type is also great at enabling Trick Room with Final Gambit.

In the back, Torkoal is a powerful Trick Room sweeper who also benefits from Oranguru's Instruct.

Counters for Oranguru

Knock Oranguru Out Cleanly or Have Pokemon Ready for Trick Room

Oranguru is susceptible to powerful Dark-type Attacks from Pokemon like Kingambit and Hydreigon.

Pokemon like Amoonguss are comfortable in Trick Room and can put Oranguru and its teammates to sleep in Trick Room with Spore.
