Summary

The best ability for Calyrex (Shadow Rider) in Tera Raid Battles is As One (Shadow Rider). This is the only ability Calyrex has in this Form.

While the Unnerve half of the ability is generally useless in Raids, the Grim Neigh half is useful if you are running a Solo Tera Raid. You can use the ability as a healing move that can also buff your Sp. Atk by attacking and knocking out your Party Raid member with Shadow Ball or Hex.

Best Tera Type

We also recommend getting a Calyrex (Shadow Rider) with a Ghost Tera Type to boost the power of its Shadow Balll and Hex. As a Special Attacker, a Modest Nature would be best to ensure it hits as hard as possible with its special moves.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize

EV Spread Explanation

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense. Max out your HP and Sp.Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense. Give it a Shell Bell to help Calyrex recover HP when it attacks.

Tera Raid Strategy

Calyrex (Shadow Rider) Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1 Use Will-O-Wisp to inflict a burn to both increase Hex's damage output and halve the Raid Bosses Physical damage output.
Turns 2~4 Use Nasty Plot three times to give Calyrex (Shadow Rider) max Sp.Atk.
Low HP Turn Use Giga Drain to recover HP.
Turns 5~7 Attack with Hex to deal boosted damage thanks to the Status Condition inflicted earlier.
Turns 8+ Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, terastallize into a Ghost-type and use Hex to deal boosted damage to the boss' shield and finish the raid.

Start the Tera Raid with Will-O-Wisp to inflict a burn on the Raid boss.

Follow up by using Nasty Plot three times to boost Calyrex (Shadow Rider)'s Sp. Atk to +6.

Use Giga Drain on turns where your HP is too low.

From there, spam Hex, which will have 130 Base Power when the boss is inflicted with a status condition. Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, terastallize into a Ghost-type and continue to attack with Hex.

Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize

EV Spread Explanation

Max out Calyrex (Shadow Rider)'s HP and Sp.Atk EVs while adding the remaining 4 EVs into Defense so that Calyrex (Shadow Rider) can hit as hard as possible with Stored Power and Draining Kiss.

For this build, giving it a Shell Bell allows it to recover health while dealing damage.

Tera Raid Strategy

Calyrex (Shadow Rider) Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1 Use Sunny Day to buff Growth.
Turns 2~4 Use Growth to max out Calyrex (Shadow Rider)'s Atk and Sp. Atk.
Note: If you find yourself low on HP while setting up, use Stored Power in between Growths to heal yourself while also building Tera Orb charge.
Turn 5 Use Psychic Terrain to boost Stored Power's damage output even further!
Turns 6~8 Use Stored Power to deal a lot of damage, while building Tera Charge and recovering HP!
Turns 9+ Terastallize and continue using Stored Power to deal maximum damage!

Start off by setting up the field with Sunny Day in order for Growth to gain double the buffs.

If needed, you can also heal yourself with the Shell Bell using Stored Power. You also need to do this in order to build up Tera Orb charges!

Set up a Psychic Terrain after you have finished Growth setups if in good HP, in order to boost the power of subsequent Stored Powers

When you have enough Tera Orb charge to terastallize, proceed to Terastalize and start spamming Stored Power to damage the raid Pokemon's shield and finish the battle!

Best Tera Type

We also recommend getting a Calyrex with an Ice Tera Type because this will boost Calyrex's STAB Avalanche when it Terastallizes. As a slow Physical Attacker, a Brave nature would be best.

This build has Shell Bell to regain the health lost from being attacked to due to the restrictions on Avalanche's effect.

Follow up by using Swords Dance three times to boost Calyrex (Ice Rider)'s Atk to +6.

This form of Calyrex also has access to Life Dew, an amazing support move that can heal every member in a Raid! Use this on turns where you or your allies are low on HP.

Finally, Calyrex (Ice Rider) has amazing Physical and Special bulk compared to other Ice Type Pokemon, this makes it one of the best users of Avalanche's damage doubling effect. This will be your main attacking move once the setup has been complete!

EV Spread Explanation

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky offense to help with survivability and with dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Special Attack EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Defense.

Tera Raid Strategy

Calyrex Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1 Use Grassy Terrain to strengthen your Grass Type Moves while getting passive healing.
Turns 2~4 Use Giga Drain to build Tera Orb Charge while also healing off any damage you might accrue.
Low HP Turns Use Nasty Plot to raise your Sp.Atk to deal more damage to the raid boss.
Turn 5+ Terastallize and keep attacking with the same process as above. Replenish your buffs as you see fit. If the Chesnaught's HP is low enough, finish it off with Leaf Storm

Calyrex is one of relatively few Pokemon with access to Nasty Plot, a move than can raise your Sp Atk by two stages. Use this to your advantage along with Grassy Terrain to boost your attacking moves.

Use Giga Drain as your main attacking move, it has amazing base power while also restoring HP. In tandem with this, use Leaf Storm, in order to finish off the Raid Boss once it is low enough.
