Moveset | ・
Facade
・ Brave Bird ・ Quick Attack ・ U-turn |
Squawkabilly can hit surprisingly hard thanks to Guts boosting its Attack by 50% when afflicted by status, which this build achieves by equipping it with Flame Orb. The Ability nullifies the attack reduction of burns, granting Squawkabilly the full damage boost. Keep in mind that only Blue and Green Plumage Squawkabilly get Guts as a Hidden Ability.
Facade is its strongest STAB move and becomes a 140 Base Power move once Squawkabilly gets burned, and gets an additional boost once it terastallizes into a Normal-type. Brave Bird is its secondary STAB that has high base power and great neutral coverage at the cost of some recoil damage.
Quick Attack allows Squawkabilly to hit faster and weakened opponents while U-Turn allows it to quickly pivot out of the battlefield once it encounters a check or counter.
Parting Shot | Parting Shot is a great alternative to U-Turn that also switches Squawkabilly out while lowering the opposing Pokemon's Attack and Special Attack. |

The following calculations take into account Squawkabilly's Offensive EV spread with a Jolly Nature and the Attack boost from Guts.
Damage Dealt by Squawkabilly |
|
---|---|
Item: Black Sludge | Facade 82-97 (52.2 - 61.7%) 98.4% Chance to 2HKO |
Item: Leftovers | Brave Bird 152-180 (68.4 - 81%) Guaranteed 2HKO |
Item: Life Orb | Quick Attack 51-61 (31.6 - 37.8%) 0.5% Chance to 3HKO |
Item: Heavy-Duty Boots | U-Turn 260-308 (172.1 - 203.9%) Guaranteed OHKO |

EV Spread | HP 252 / Def 252 / Sp.Def 4 |

Held Item | Heavy-Duty Boots |
Moveset | ・
Tailwind
・ Parting Shot ・ Brave Bird ・ Roost |
Squawkabilly can function as a support Pokemon in Doubles thanks to its Intimidate Ability, as well as valuable support moves such as Tailwind and Parting Shot. Since it will pivot out repeatedly with Parting Shot, Heavy-Duty Boots is preferred held item to prevent it from getting damaged by entry hazards such as Stealth Rock.
Brave Bird is its only attacking move and hits hard even with no Attack investment. It also prevents Squawkabilly from getting completely shut down by Taunt.
Roost is its last move and allows it to recover lost health from Brave Bird and repeated attacks from the opposing Pokemon.
Helping Hand | An alternative to Parting Shoot that allows Squawkabilly to boost the power of its ally's next move by 50%. |
---|
The following calculations take into account Squawkabilly's Defensive EV spread with an Impish Nature and factoring the Attack drop from Intimidate.
Damage Received by Squawkabilly |
|

Focus Sash
|
Rock Tomb 74-88 (39.1 - 46.5%) Guaranteed 3HKO |

Item: Sitrus Berry | Ice Shard 50-60 (26.4 - 31.7%) Guaranteed 4HKO |
In Singles, Squawkabilly can hit surprisingly hard with its Guts-boosted Facade, which is further boosted by terastallizing into a Normal-type. This allows it to take on slower attackers, such Breloom, and KO them with its Guts-boosted attacks.
Squawkabilly is currently the only Pokemon in the metagame that has access to Intimidate, Tailwind, and Parting Shot. This gives it a niche in the battle format as a surprisingly effective lead support as it can increase the bulk of its teammates and double their Speed with its moves.
Squawkabilly is better suited as part of a balanced team as even with its great Attack, it's mediocre Speed and low defenses means its easy to wear down even with neutral attacks.
In Doubles, it's a great choice for defensive and balanced team compositions that can benefit from Intimidate and Parting Shot, as well as the Speed boost from Tailwind.
Lead Support | Physical Attacker | Offensive Pivot |
---|---|---|
Great Tusk | Squawkabilly | Wash Rotom |
Entry hazards like Stealth Rock limit Squawkabilly's ability to switch, which makes Great Tusk a great partner since it can remove them with Rapid Spin as well as setup its own Stealth Rock.
Wash Rotom is this team's offensive pivot and also functions as a special attacker, using Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt to round off the team's coverage and also cripple opposing attackers with Will-O-Wisp.
Lead Support | Special Attacker |
---|---|
Squawkabilly | Gholdengo |
Redirection Support | Physical Attacker |
Amoonguss | Roaring Moon |
Squawkabilly's main role is to setup Tailwind as soon as the match starts and switch out with Parting Shot, lowering the opposing team's Attack and Special Attack in the process. Gholdengo benefits from both Intimidate and Parting Shot, as well as the Speed boost from Tailwind, and allows it to outspeed its usual checks even with no Speed investment.
Amoonguss serves as this team's redirection support and is the Pokemon that Squawkabilly should switch with so that it can provide Rage Powder support. Roaring Moon is this team's secondary attacker and has great offensive synergy with Gholdengo.
Squawkabilly is easy to outspeed, and even with Defensive EV investment, it can't take repeated super effective hits and will go down easily when hit by Rock, Ice, and Electric-type moves from powerful attackers.
