Outspeeds Flutter Mane and can KO with a powerful Ghost-type Attack. High-speed Choice Band Attacker. Clear Body prevents stat drops.
|
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Clear Body | Choice Band |
Clear Body is Dragapult's best Ability, which is important for keeping its stats high when faced with Intimidate or Speed Control through Icy Wind or Electroweb.
Choice Band is chosen for this build, as it can improve Dragapult's offensive capabilities, while locking it into a single attacking move.
Dragon Darts | Tera Blast |
U-turn | Sucker Punch |
Dragon Darts is a reliable STAB option for Dragapult, which can heavily dent even the toughest defensive Pokemon. Do not expect this move to consistenly KO, however, as it will only reliably put opposing Pokemon in KO range for another attack.
Tera Blast becomes Dragapult's most reliable Ghost-type attack, which becomes boosted even further upon Terastallization.
U-Turn is useful for dishing out damage and pivoting Dragapult out of the active spot.
Sucker Punch with Choice Band can put pressure on opposing Pokemon, and make them think twice about attacking.

Ghost is the best Tera Type for this build as it can give Dragapult a boost to its Ghost-type attack.
Best Ghost Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
Full Attack and Speed EV investment is necessary so that Dragapult can hit hard and as fast as possible, with the remaining 4 EVs in Special Defense to round off its bulk.
A Jolly Nature is necessary so that Dragapult always outspeeds Timid Flutter Mane without Booster Energy.
Phantom Force | A strong Ghost-type attack that can damage through Protect. |

Item: Booster Energy | Tera Ghost Tera Blast 328 ~ 388 (203.7 ~ 240.9%) Guaranteed OHKO |
Item: Eviolite | Tera Ghost Tera Blast 108 ~ 128 (73.4 ~ 87%) Guaranteed OHKO |
Game8's Competitive Damage Calculator
Dragapult is best in positions where it is faster than the opposing Pokemon. Being able to attack first is a huge advantage, and very few Pokemon outspeed Dragapult.
Dragapult's movepool allows it to be highly customizable, being able to slot in a good selection of coverage moves. With the introduction of Tera Blast, Dragapult gains access to types that it never had before.
Dragapult is best on teams with plenty of defensive options to switch into. Volcarona, along with its Flame Body Ability, offers a chance to burn opposing Physical Attackers. Amoonguss on the other hand is a reliable, bulky support Pokemon who can always take a beating for its teammates.
Fast Offense | Support / Offense | Support / Disruption |
---|---|---|
Dragapult | Volcarona | Amoonguss |
Because Dragapult is not the bulkiest of Pokemon, having switch-ins are valuable to have for its team. Volcarona can switch in and set up Tailwind if the opposing Pokemon is outspeeding Dragapult for whatever reason, while Amoonguss can switch in and spread status with Spore.
Support / Redirection | Physical Attacker |
---|---|
Amoonguss | Dragapult |
Physical Attacker | Special Attacker |
Chien-Pao | Gholdengo |
Amoonguss can support Dragapult by redirecting attacks away from it, while Dragapult outspeeds and deals damage to everything on the opposing side of the field. Chien-Pao can further increase Dragapult's damage output, while Gholdengo can check opposing Fairy-types.
Fast and bulky Fairies are bad matchups for Dragapult, as well as faster Dragon-types. Switch these Pokemon in to chase off opposing Dragapult!

Dragapult learns Sucker Punch as an egg move, so in order to get Sucker Punch on Dragapult, first you need a Pokemon that knows the move. You will then need to make sure Dragapult has an empty move slot and give it a Mirror Herb.
Finally, set up a picnic with both Dragapult and the Pokemon that knows the egg move in your party and the move will be transferred to Dragapult (the other Pokemon still retains its moveset). Unlike previous generations, egg moves can now be transferred regardless of egg group, species or gender.
