Incredibly bulky with high base HP and Special Defense. Curse further increases its Defense and Attack. Can fully heal itself with Rest. |
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Thick Fat | Leftovers |
The Ability chosen for Snorlax for this build is Thick Fat. This helps reduce the damage done by Fire and Ice-type attacks by half. It is especially useful against the many Fire-type attackers in the current meta like Heartflame Ogerpon, Heatran, and Chi-Yu.
The item chosen for Snorlax for this build is Leftovers. Since Snorlax has a massive HP stat, Leftovers will passively heal it for a lot more compared to other Pokemon.
Curse | Body Slam |
Earthquake | Rest |
Curse further increases Snorlax's Attack and Defense stats. This makes it so that Snorlax become increasingly difficult to remove while still making it an offensive threat.
Body Slam is its most consistent STAB attack. It also has the bonus chance of paralyzing the target when hit.
Earthquake is its main coverage move against Pokemon that are immune or resistant to its Normal-type attacks.
Rest allows for Snorlax to heal itself back to full health. The only downside is that Snorlax will go to sleep, which allows the opponent to freely do what they want.

Normal is the best Tera Type for this build because it will further increase the damage done by Body Slam.
Best Normal Type Pokemon
A full 252 EVs are put into Snorlax's Defense and Special Defense to complement its high HP stat. The extra 4 EVs are placed into its HP to fully round out its bulk.
An Impish nature is preferred to increase its Defense stat which is naturally lower than its Special Defense stat.
Double-Edge | Normally Snorlax's highest damage STAB attack, but it has recoil damage. |
---|---|
Facade | When Snorlax is affected by a status effect, this becomes its highest damaging STAB attack. |
Crunch | Threatens Ghost-types that would be immune to its Normal-type attacks. |

Ability | Thick Fat |
Tera Type | |
Held Item | Sitrus Berry |
Moveset | ・
Facade
・ Earthquake ・ Heavy Slam ・ Belly Drum |
Snorlax's Normal typing gives it only one weakness. Massively bulky and hard to KO. Strong Trick Room attacker. Can maximize its Attack with Belly Drum and heal back its HP with Gluttony and a Berry.
|
Ability | Held Item | |
---|---|---|
Thick Fat | Sitrus Berry |
Thick Fat is a viable Ability this format, giving Snorlax a resistance to Ogerpon Hearthflame Mask's Ivy Cudgel, as well as Blizzards from Snow teams.
Sitrus Berry is its Held Item of choice, allowing Snorlax to replenish HP after a successful Belly Drum.
Alternatively, Gluttony can be run so that Snorlax can immediately consume a Berry at 50%. This lets Snorlax consume a Pinch Berry like Iapapa Berry without needing its HP to go below 25%.
Facade | Earthquake |
Heavy Slam | Belly Drum |
Facade is Snorlax's most powerful STAB move, which grants it even more damage if Snorlax is afflicted with a Status Condition such as Burn.
Earthquake is a spread option, that lets Snorlax sweep through teams when it gets its Belly Drum boost.
Heavy Slam, a Steel-type Move is a valuable coverage option to have, as it lets Snorlax OHKO Flutter Mane.
Belly Drum maximizes Snorlax's Attack stat, allowing it to be a powerful physical sweeper.

---|---|---|
Weak to: | ||
(2x) | ||
Damaged Normally By: |
(1x) | |
Resists: | (0.5x) | |

Ghost is the best Tera Type for this build as it can give Snorlax an immunity to Fighting-type Attacks.
Best Ghost Type Pokemon for Ranked Battle
Full investment in Defense is given to Snorlax to make sure that it is as physically bulky as possible. Only 24 EVs are put into its Special Defense as Snorlax is already specially bulky.
228 HP EVs are given to increase Snorlax's bulk even further.
No Attack EVs are given, as Snorlax will be using Belly Drum to maximize its Attack stat anyways, invalidating the need for any investment.
An Impish Nature is chosen so that Snorlax can maximize its physical bulk.
Recycle | Recycle allows Snorlax to reuse a Berry it has already consumed. With Gluttony, this lets Snorlax immediately consume the Berry when it is at 50% health. |
---|---|
High Horsepower | High Horsepower is a strong single-target Ground-type Attack that is a good alternative to Earthquake if your team lacks Ground immunities. |
Damage Dealt by Snorlax |

Item: Booster Energy | Heavy Slam 151 ~ 186 (121.5 ~ 143%) Guaranteed OHKO |
Game8's Competitive Damage Calculator
Ideally, Snorlax would like to be put against Pokemon that have little to no answers to it so that it can freely setup.
Snorlax is already a naturally slow Pokemon, so having Trick Room set up can help it outspeed Pokemon that would normally be faster than it.
Curse also reduces Snorlax's Speed by one stage, which would make it even faster in a Trick Room team.
Having Pokemon like Alolan Ninetales to setup Aurora Veil or Sinisctha in Doubles to heal Snorlax with Hospitality is ideal to help increase its survivability.
Screens Setter | Setup Attacker | Physical Attacker |
---|---|---|
Alolan Ninetales | Snorlax | Urshifu Single-Strike Style |
Snorlax appreciates the Screens support from Alolan Ninetales, further increasing its already immense bulk.
Urshifu Single Strike is also a great partner for Snorlax since it threatens the Pokemon that would be immune or resist its Normal-type attacks.
Physical Attacker | Support |
---|---|
Snorlax | Clefairy |
Physical Attacker | Support / Special Attacker |
Landorus (Therian Forme) | Sinistcha |
Friend Guard Clefairy is an excellent partner for Snorlax, as it can improve its bulk with Friend Guard and redirect attacks away from it. Additionally, Sinistcha can come in and help Snorlax recover HP with its Ability Hospitality and set up Trick Room, while redirecting damage with Rage Powder.
Landorus-T with Choice Scarf can help the team deal with threats with a fast Tera Blast, or fishing for Rock Slide flinches. It can also deal good damage with Stomping Tantrum or pivot out with U-Turn.

Urshifu Rapid-Strike Style | Ranking: ★★★★
・Surging Strikes always crits, ignoring any Screens or Defense boosts. ・Can threaten an OHKO after using Swords Dance. ▶️Urshifu Rapid Strike Best Movesets |
