Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Speed Boost Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Sitrus Berry ImageSitrus Berry

Speed Boost is the best ability for Espathra because it can increase Stored Power's damage and it can also pass the Speed boosts it gets to a teammate with Baton Pass.

Sitrus Berry is the item used on this build so that Espathra can heal itself after being brought down to half health. The healing from a Sitrus Berry could result in an extra activation of Speed Boost.

Moves Breakdown

Calm Mind Stored Power
Baton Pass Protect

Calm Mind is used to boost Espathra's Sp. Atk and Sp. Def, which in turn boosts the base damage of Stored Power.

Stored Power gets stronger the more stat boost Espathra gets. It can potentially get +60 BP a turn with both Calm Mind and Speed Boost going off.

Baton Pass allows Espathra to pass its stat boosts to another Pokemon on its team.

Protect ensures that Espathra gets one Speed Boost off at the end of the turn.

Fairy is the best Tera Type for Espathra because it is one of the best defensive types in the game. Fairy's Poison-type weakness is also checked by Espathra's Psychic-type attacks.

EV Spread and Nature

Majority of the EVs are placed into Espathra's HP and Defense to significantly increase its bulk, while a 100 EVs are put in its Speed to ensure that Espathra outspeeds non-Speed boosted Flutter Manes and Chien-Paos after one Speed Boost proc.

The other 8 EVs are evenly split between Sp. Atk and Sp. Def to help round out its stats.

A Bold nature is preferred to help Espathra tank hits from the many physical attackers in the meta.

Other Viable Moves

Lumina Crash A strong Psychic-type attack that also lowers the opponent's Sp. Def by two stages.
Dazzling Gleam A good coverage move for Espathra that also gets boosted while it is Terastallized into a Fairy-type.

Shadow Ball

Espathra's ability Speed Boost allows it to increase its Speed by one stage at the end of every turn, which can be extremely devastating when used together with its signature move Lumina Crash which also decreases your opponent's Special Defense by two stages. Lumina Crash has a base power of 80, and also gains STAB from Espathra's Psychic typing, allowing you to OHKO or 2HKO almost every Pokemon.

By giving Espathra a Focus Sash, you can take a lethal hit, giving you time to gain +1 Speed from Speed Boost, wherein you can outspeed Pokemon like Meowscarada and Dragapult, setting you up for a reverse sweep. This particular moveset also gives you a combination of Fairy, Psychic, and Ghost-type attacks, giving you coverage against most of the common Meta Pokemon.

Other Viable Moves

Roost Taking Roost over Protect gives you the option to use this move every turn, while you build up your Speed bonuses from your Ability
Stored Power Since Speed Boost gives you +1 Speed every turn, you can use Stored Power to capitalize on the stat boosts if you are able to stall the game for long enough

Summary

Espathra can achieve several boosts to power up its Stored Power thanks to its Speed Boost Ability. Coupled with Calm Mind, this bulkier special attacking build can overpower walls once it gets enough boost for its Stored Power.

Ability and Held Item

Ability Held Item
Speed Boost Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Leftovers ImageLeftovers

Speed Boost raises Espathra's Speed by two stages at the end of every turn, allowing it to outrun most Pokemon even with minimal Speed investment after a few turns.

Leftovers gives Espathra passive healing and is important for this bulkier build and can bring Espathra back to full health alongside Roost.

Moves Breakdown

Calm Mind Stored Power
Tera Blast Roost

Calm Mind boosts Espathra's Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage, and contributes to the increase in base power for Stored Power.

With one Calm Mind and one Speed Boost, Stored Power becomes a 100 Base Power Psychic move, allowing it to deal significant damage even with no Special Attack investment and it's even possible to increase this damage more as Espathra accumulates more Speed Boosts.

Tera Blast gives Espathra a secondary STAB move once it Terastallizes into a Fire-type, while Roost allows it to heal off lost health and allow it to accumulate more boosts throughout the match.

Terastallizing Espathra into a Fire-type gives it resistances to Fairy, Bug, Grass, and Ice-types. Fire also helps it overcome Steel-types like Gholdengo and Kingambit who are resistant or immune to Stored Power.

EV Spread and Nature

We're using a defensive EV spread with full HP and Defense EVs to give it as much physical bulk as possible, with the remaining 4 EVs invested in Speed so that it can outrun slower attackers with one Speed Boost.

Other Viable Moves

Lumina Crash Can replace Roost to prevent Special Walls from switching in.

How to Use Espathra Effectively

Stall to gain Speed Boosts

Espathra gains +1 Speed after every turn thanks to its ability Speed Boost, so when facing Pokemon that are faster than you, try to stall during the first few turns so that you gain enough Speed boosts to outspeed them and potentially reverse sweep the enemy team.

Capitalize on Lumina Crash's -2 Sp. Def

Espathra's signature move Lumina Crash deals decent damage and reduces your opponent's Special Defense by two stages. When facing bulky Pokemon, you can continuously hit them with Lumina Crash and put them within a 2HKO range with this Psychic-type STAB attack.

How to Build a Team with Espathra

Espathra benefits from having other Special Attackers on its team that appreciate the stat boosts passed from Baton Pass or the Sp. Def drops from Lumina Crash.
