Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Can

Some players have reported that they sometimes can't join online Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV). Read on to learn why some players can't join online raid battles, what to do when you get a “You weren't able to join.” message, and how to fix it.

What to Do If You Can't Join Online Raid Battles

Select a Raid to Join Quickly

After the raids load in, if you wait a while before selecting one of the available raids, it might already have become full, started, or cancelled.

To have the best possible chance of joining a raid, your best bet is to choose one of the available raids within the first few seconds of them loading in.

Try Twice, then Press X to Show New Raids

If you fail to get into a raid on your first try, you're most likely out of luck with the rest of the raids shown. However, the game won't allow you to view new postings straight away. Although you likely won't get into the second, you'll need to try twice, then press X after failing to load in new raids.

After the new raids appear, once again, be sure to select one within the first few seconds to maximize your chances of getting in.

Make Sure You Have a Stable Internet Connection

Before you attempt to join an online raid battle, make sure that you have a stable internet connection first. Otherwise, you might get disconnected in the middle of a raid or not be able to join one at all.

You'll know that your internet connection is stable if all the bars on the wifi icon on the home screen are lit.

Restart the Game

You can also try restarting your game to see if it can fix the problem.

Before restarting the game, make sure that you save your game first so you won't lose game progress. Press the Home button when you're ready, then press X to close the game.

Open the game again and try joining online raid battles.

How to Save Your Game

Restart Your Console

If restarting the game didn't work, try restarting the console itself. Do this by long pressing the Power Button and choosing "Power Options". From there choose "Turn Off" to turn the console off.

Turn it on again, open the game, and try joining online raid battles once more.

Make Sure Your Date and Time is Correct

If you changed the time and date on your console recently, make sure to set it to the current time and date to avoid running into problems in the game.

Once you've fixed this, restart the game to refresh the raids and join one online.

Reinstall the Game If You Have a Digital Copy

Lastly, if you have a digital copy of the game, you can try reinstalling the game to fix the issue.

To do this, the first thing you need to do is to delete the software. You can do so by going to System Settings, then "Data Management". From there, select "Manage Software", then select "Pokemon Scarlet" or "Pokemon Violet".

After deleting the software, download it again from the eShop. Open the game afterward and try joining online raid battles again.

Although the problem doesn't seem to be directly tied to a slow internet connection, the issue does seem to vary from player to player. On Game8's team, some of our members experienced this problem, while others had no issues with joining online raids. It might be dependent on your region, with some servers providing better availability than others.

We're hoping to see a patch addressing this problem in the near future. Try following the Pokemon official twitter to learn about new patches released for the game as soon as they are released.
