This build seeks to synergize Oranguru with Florges, Mimikyu, and Armarouge to set it up and one-shot the Raid boss. The strategy revolves around giving Armarouge several stat boosts and deal massive damage with Stored Power after the setup.
Oranguru's role in this strategy is to hit Armarouge with Foul Play at the start of the raid to force it to consume its held Weakness Policy and activate Weak Armor. After a few boosts, Oranguru's Symbiosis will activate and it will give Armarouge its Choice Specs before it attacks.
Max out Oranguru's HP and Defense EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense. Remember to let it hold Choice Specs, which will be given to Armarouge once Oranguru's Symbiosis activates.
Armarouge One-Shot Strategy | |
---|---|
#1 | Oranguru attacks Armarouge with Foul Play, activating Weak Armor and its Weakness Policy. |
#2 | Florges' Symbiosis will activate, and transfer a second Weakness Policy to Armarouge. Have Florges use Helping Hand on Armarouge. |
#3 | Mimikyu uses Fling to force Armarouge to consume a Petaya Berry, use its second Weakness Policy, and activate Weak Armor again. |
#4 | Oranguru's Symbiosis will activate and give Armarouge Choice Specs. |
#5 | Have Armarouge use Stored Power to one-shot the Raid boss. |
As the Oranguru user, attack Armarouge with Foul Play at the beginning of the raid to start its chain of stat boosts.
Near the end of the setup, Oranguru's Symbiosis will activate and transfer its Choice Specs to Armarouge.

Shell Bell |
The best Ability for Oranguru is Telepathy, which gives it immunity to other Pokemon's multi-target attacks. This Ability is useless in Raids, making it the perfect Ability to swap with the Raid Boss using Skill Swap.
Ghost Tera Type is chosen for this build to give Oranguru STAB on Shadow Ball.
Best Tera Types: Best Pokemon to Terastallize
Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense. Max out your HP and Sp.Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense.
Giving Oranguru a Shell Bell ensures it gets passive healing from its attacks.
Oranguru Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy | |
---|---|
Turn 1 | Use Skill Swap to swap Abilities with the Raid Boss and get Flash Fire to give Oranguru leverage. |
Turn 2~4 | Use Shadow Ball to deal damage and build up Tera Orb Charge. Note:Even if Oranguru faints, it will still retain its Tera Orb Charge. |
Turns 5~7 | Use Nasty Plot three times to raise Oranguru's Sp.Atk by 6 stages. Note: Make sure to use this move after the Raid Boss resets all stat changes. |
Turns 8+ | Once you have enough Tera Orb Charge, terastallize into a Ghost-type and use boosted Shadow Ball to deal damage to the Raid Boss' shield and finish the battle. |
Start the battle by using Skill Swap to swap Abilities with Typhlosion to get an immunity to Fire-types with Flash Fire.
Use Shadow Ball to deal super effective damage to Typhlosion while also building up Tera Orb Charge. Take note that even if Oranguru faints, it will still retain its Tera Orb Charge.
You may also use Instruct on your allies to help them deal extra damage or an extra turn to boost with their own moves.
Once Typhlosion resets stat changes, use Nasty Plot three times to raise its Sp.Atk by 6 stages. Then, terastallize into a Ghost-type and use boosted Shadow Ball to damage Typhlosion's shield and finish the battle!

This Ghost Tera Raid Build is also an effective counter to Ghost and Psychic-type Tera Raid Bosses. If the Tera Raid Boss is usually a Dark Type outside of Terastallization, perhaps consider a different build, as Oranguru will be weak to these Types.

You can catch an Oranguru with either a Normal or Psychic Tera Type at North Province (Area Two) in Pokemon Scarlet. If you have Pokemon Violet, you can trade a Passimian from your version of the game from another player who has Pokemon Scarlet for an Oranguru.
If it has a different nature, you can use a Bold Mint to change its nature to Bold.
The easiest way to get this is by buying it from the Chansey Supply shop at Mesagoza for ₽20,000.
How to Change a Pokemon's Nature
Symbiosis is Oranguru's Hidden Ability which you cannot obtain from Oranguru found in the wild.
