The regular form of Wooper, which resembles an axolotl, sports a blue body color signifying its Water typing. For its Paldean form, Paldean Wooper is now colored differently due to its tendency to cover its body with poison, which explains its new Poison Typing.

The original form of Wooper can only be found via an in-game trade with an NPC.

What are Paldean Forms in Pokemon?

Regional Variants of Previously Known Pokemon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Paldean Wooper in the Wild

In previous Pokemon games, some Pokemon receive new forms based on the region they are appearing in. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Paldean Pokemon are regional forms of familiar Pokemon that have undergone changes to adapt to living at the Paldea region.

These Pokemon, aside from having their appearances change, also receive new typings, abilities, and movesets!

Regional Variants in Previous Games

Pokemon receiving their own regional forms dates back to the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, which featured new Alolan Pokemon in the Alola region.

New regional variants also appeared in Pokemon Sword and Shield, with Galarian Pokemon appearing across the Galar region.

Regional variants also appeared in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, where previously-known Pokemon were given Hisuian forms.

Paldean Pokemon Adapt to Their Environment

Paldean Pokemon live in different environments from their regular variants. As the territory they call home change, they are forced to adapt based on these environmental changes, which changes certain traits of theirs, such as their typings.
