Levitate Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Griseous Core ImageGriseous Core

Giratina can only use Levitate and a Griseous Core in its Origin Forme. The Griseous Core also has an added bonus of boosting Giratina's Dragon and Ghost-type moves by 20%.

Moves Breakdown

Draco Meteor Hex
Earth Power Will-O-Wisp

Draco Meteor is its strongest Dragon-type STAB move, but it will reduce Giratina's Sp. Atk by two stages every time it's used.

Hex is its best Ghost-type STAB move that has its base power doubled to 130 after the target's burned by Will-O-Wisp.

Earth Power is its main coverage move to help it deal with some of the more common defensive Tera Types in the current meta.

Will-O-Wisp is important to burn the target, halving their attack stat, and enabling Hex to do double damage.

Pokemon Grass Type Icon Pokemon Fighting Type Icon Pokemon Poison Type Icon Pokemon Bug Type Icon Pokemon Fairy Type Icon

Poison is the best Tera Type for this build because it is one of the best defensive types in the game, and its only weakness is the relatively uncommon Psychic-type since it's immune to Ground thanks to Levitate.

EV Spread and Nature

A full 252 EVs are placed in Giratina's HP and Sp. Atk to make it as bulky as possible while still being able to hit hard. The extra 4 EVs are put into its Speed to help it outspeed the opponent's Pokemon.

A Modest nature is preferred to maximize Giratina's damage output.

Other Viable Moves

Thunder Wave Can be used instead of Will-O-Wisp to reduce the opponent's Speed instead of their Attack.
Dragon Pulse Does less damage than Draco Meteor, but it won't reduce Giratina's Attack every time it's used.
Aura Sphere An alternate coverage option that can be better than Earth Power depending on what your team needs.

Giratina can only use Levitate and a Griseous Core in its Origin Forme. The Griseous Core also has an added bonus of boosting Giratina's Dragon and Ghost-type moves by 20%.

Moves Breakdown

Poltergeist Dragon Tail
Iron Head Shadow Sneak

Poltergeist is its best Ghost-type move, but it will only work if the opponent is holding an item.

Dragon Tail is its best Dragon-type move that will always go last, but it forces the opponent to switch out of battle and bring out a random Pokemon instead.

Iron Head is its main coverage move that has its damage boosted whenever Giratina Terastallizes.

Shadow Sneak is a +1 priority move that allows Giratina to knock out any low-health opponents.

Other coverage options that hit a wider range of Pokemon for super-effective damage.

How to Use Giratina Effectively

Utilize Giratina's Great Bulk and Offense

Giratina is slow but has good offensive and defensive stats. Utilize its strong bulk to tank hits and deal a good amount of damage in return.

How to Build a Team with Giratina

Giratina wants teammates who can wall and stall out the game by poisoning or chipping away at the opponent's health with hazards.

Sample Singles Team

Hazards Lead Mixed Attacker Special Attacker
Ting-Lu ImageTing-Lu Giratina (Origin Forme) ImageGiratina (Origin Forme) Zapdos ImageZapdos

Ting-Lu can be used to set up Stealth Rocks and wall opposing Pokemon so that its more offensive allies in Giratina and Zapdos can come in and knock out the opponent's Pokemon without taking too much damage in return.
