Summary

Grimmsnarl has decent Sp. Atk, and has access to Special Attack stat modifiers such as Fake Tears and Nasty Plot. Its typing is also good for offense, as its STAB Dark Pulse can deal Super Effective damage after setting up.

Best Tera Type

We also recommend getting a Grimmsnarl with a Dark Tera Type as it still resists Ghost type moves and will increase Dark Pulse's power when Grimsnarl Terastallizes. As a Special Attacker, Modest nature would be best.

EV Spread Explanation

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards bulky offense to help with survivability while still dealing as much damage as possible. Max out your HP and Sp. Atk EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Sp. Def. The Shell Bell held item can help make Grimmsnarl invincible by allowing it to restore HP each time it deals damage.

Tera Raid Strategy

Tera Raid Turn-by-Turn Counter Strategy
Turn 1 Use Light Screen to halve the amount of damage received from Special moves.
Turns 2~4 Use Fake Tears to lower the Raid Pokemon's Sp. Def stat to -6.
Turns 5~10 Alternate between Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse to raise your Sp. Atk in between dealing damage with Dark Pulse.
Turns 11+ Terastallize and continue using Dark Pulse

At the start of the battle, use Light Screen to reduce the amount of damage received from Typhlosion's Special moves. Follow up with Fake Tears three times to lower the Raid Pokemon's Sp. Defense by 6 stages.

Alternate between Nasty Plot and Dark Pulse to raise your Sp. Atk stat in between dealing damage using Dark Pulse. Once you have enough Tera Orb charge, Terastallize and continue using Dark Pulse.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet SV - Light Clay ImageLight Clay

The best ability for Grimmsnarl in Tera Raid Battles is Prankster. This move increases the Speed priority of status moves by 1. Moves affected by this ability are ineffective against Dark-type opponents.

We also recommend getting a Grimmsnarl with a Fairy Tera Type because of its immunity to Dragon and the boost it gives to its Fairy-type STAB. As a Support Pokemon, an Impish nature would be best.

Tera Raid EV spreads should lean towards a bulky defense to help with survivability and support your team longer in the field. Max out your Defense and HP EVs, while adding the remaining EVs into Special Defense. The Light Clay would make Reflect and Light Screen linger longer in the field; decreasing damage taken from the opposing Pokemon.

Start a Tera Raid Battle by Taunting the opponent to prevent it from using status moves. Afterward, set up a Light Screen or Reflect, depending on the opposing Pokemon's higher damaging stat. Play Rough will be Grimmsnarl's damaging option, but otherwise it can also support teammates by Cheering.

Set up Light Screen and Reflect again when they're no longer in the field.

This Grimmsnarl Tera Raid Build is a variant of the Prankster Support Grimmsnarl, to be used when you're up against a Tera Pokemon with Special Attack moves as opposed to Physical moves.

This Grimmsnarl retains its Tera Type and ability but has a Careful Nature instead of Impish to buff its already good Special Defense stat. The EV Spread also invests heavily into HP and Sp. Def, and its moveset has been adjusted to replace Play Rough with Spirit Break.

Start the fight by using Taunt, then follow with Light Screento reduce the damage received by you and your teammates. Then once you feel that you have the upper hand, use Spirit Break to go on the offense, while also reducing the raid boss' Special Attack.
